6 Easy Ways to Stimulate Your Vagus Nerve & Reduce Anxiety

The vagus nerve is our longest cranial nerve. It travels through our body, assisting in many bodily functions and passing on messages from the brain, it’s like a neuronal superhighway. But it doesn't stop here: triggering the vagus nerve can ‘wake up’ the Parasympathetic Nervous System which helps us relax and calm down.
That's where @mysensate comes in: Sensate is an infrasound resonance device that works with its companion app to tone the vagus nerve and provide deep relaxation in short 10 to 30-minute sessions. Sensate taps into the phenomenon of bone conduction. Your chest resonates sound, and these frequencies signal the vagus nerve to relax. Think of it as a shortcut to give you more intensive relaxation at a snap of the fingers. I use it before bed to help me fall asleep quicker and lull me into a deeper and restful sleep. Just 10 minutes and I am set for the whole night!
Want to try it out for yourself? Use code KATI for $25 off your very own Sensate!

In this video I'm talking about the 6 ways to stimulate the vagus nerve. So if you're looking for a vagus nerve stimulation exercise or massage for anxiety relief, then I will talk through these popular anxiety relief stimulation exercises, including a new favorite device of mine for vagus nerve stimulation. These self soothe frequency skills and exercises for the vagus nerve, often used in DBT therapy, will be helpful to release tension if you catch yourself being overwhelmed by anxiety - and can help with sleep or moments of frustration that you are feeling. I'll also be explaining what the vagus nerve is and why it's important because people are always asking for things to be explained so they better understand.

This actually surprised me how close it was to praying in Islam my religion.. I don't practice well but this might help... It includes washing your face arms and feet and it includes reciting which is close to humming and it includes breathing and relaxing since you're supposed to be mindful and focused on the prayer and the words. I can't tell you how much you help me understand myself and humans better thanks Kati

thank you for this very informative video! that's so interresting to know how digestion and anxiety are linked. in addition, I learned an exercise to reduce anxiety that actually works for me: you look on the right while keeping your head centered and then you repeat this on the left (head is straight and gaze on the left). you stay on that position for 30 seconds each side or more (you might yawn as a sign of vagus nerve stimulation).

Great video!!! I actually put an icepack on the back of my neck when I'm super anxious especially if something just happened. Another technique I do is forced tension., which I don't always have to because breathing usually does it for me. But I will flex and tense up my body as hard as I can for about 3-5 seconds and then I release and shake it out. Sometimes I do it a few times and that helps me. Especially if my anxiety has me trembling. Also, squeezing a stressball or any object in that manner. Squeeze like a rolling pin, or any firm object and hold that tension for a few seconds.

SVT patient here. You might want to link to an electrocardiologist or even a paramedic explaining how to perform the vagal maneuvers correctly. The water thing? That isn't "cooling down"-- the water needs to be frigid and you have to put your face in it FAST to get any effect from it. It's the hardest one to do because it's hard to get people to understand that you are going to have to shock yourself with the cold. The buddy valsalva is my favorite. Nothing like a fist in your gut, lol!

Probiotics seem almost magical! You need them to balance things out down there. Another tidbit- the vagus nerve can lower blood pressure too much too fast. If you've heard of someone fainting at the sight of blood, this is why it happened.

I also love gameshows, because they’re filled with so much positivity, and some of the contestants have so much enthusiasm, that it can even make me laugh. I also love music. Music really helps me too. I mainly throw on something that I know will lift me up. I don’t listen to angry or sad music or music that I can relate to. It has to be something that I love so much. The ring finger is said to be linked to the heart, which is why it was chosen as the finger the wedding ring goes on. The San Jiao meridian is linked to that finger, so you will probably be stimulating that by rubbing your finger. If it works, just keep doing it. 🙂 Thanks for sharing that tip, will try it myself. 💚

Broccoli 3/4 of a cup, daily, literally helps anxiety and depression. You could need a Chiropractor, a Bodyworker, or maybe some Magnesium that specifically relaxes your body. I love Naomi mighty mg magnesium. I take 4, one hour before bed. All of those things helped me immensely. And I am talking about one trip for deep tissue, one trip to my Chiro who rips me apart, and then the magnesium. You will feel soooo freaking much better! And the broccoli is an extra measure of happiness!!!

My vagus nerve GETS stimulated when anxious. It’s actually a symptom of mine so this doesn’t make sense for me. My throat feels exhausted. So I want to DEACTIVATE it.

Stimulating the vagus nerve kicks in the parasympathetic part of the nervous system which is the rest and digest system. Maybe your vagus nerve is compressed or otherwise compromised.

Perhaps you’re confusing your feelings for flight or fight, which is not the vagus nerve

@@robot7437 I once mentioned it to my doctor. I reluctantly mentioned fatigue in my throat when anxious because I thought it sounded silly. The. She indicated the Vegus nerve.

Due to upper cervical spine issues, my vagus nerve is compressed. Hence, I am a crazy person with autonomic issues. Why did the medical-industrial golem neurologists not help me as a teenager? It's quite straightforward, this place is hell. It's designed to maximize our anguish, milk us like cattle, and the lead us up the ramp when they decide to come for the blood and flesh, and of course all of them take their cut. Beasts in human form. I will never forgive this place.

I've got same "Problem" haha. Whenever doctors say a term I'm not used to Or even when my blood pressure is being taken? I just go pale and limp lmfao. Lately though (Still ongoing health issues, Primarily stomach issues) I've been learning to breathe and Literally slow my pace whenever I'm at the doctors office or an area where I know I'm going to already be anxious. I'm going to try these techniques as well and hopefully you and I can get through this!

When I feel anxeities overtaking me, I do #5 (purposful deep breathing), and #6 (examine my thoughts and feelings [being mindful of my enviornment].) Often, I don't realize the level of my anxeities. If my wife is present and senses my frame of mind, she tells me to "take a deep breath".

What if they don't work? The last two days I have done humming for 90 min at a time. I have taken a lot of probiotics in the past and I have done ice baths in the past as well. I have also been through a lot of these vagus nerve stimulation drills. I tried the laughing, I will try again later but I can't laugh.

@@greeneyedlady0606 I am just starting again. I am doing sauna, ice baths and just started box breathing and will do another drills. My favourite vagus nerve stimulation and the old neck stretch, with eyes looking up and back. I feel my issue is related to a tight diaphragm though I have tried to do the whole body. I have a text book I need to read through now.

I sent you a message on instagram from my personal account but I’ll put it here as well if that’s alright Hello, i love your KZread videos. I was just listening to your podcast called “STAY IN THERAPY FOREVER?” and you mentioned finding friends for support. I was actually doing that first before two of my friends suggested I reach out to a therapist. The therapy has been helping me, but I was just wondering…..when should I reach out to a friend vs a therapist? I don’t want to constantly bother my friends with my anxiety, they’re my friends not my therapists.
