All good sense people, all smart or intelligent people, and most other people as well, they enjoy your survival video especially because you have been very considerate to integrate with the nature and did no considerable damages of the environment as we have seen other people doing by cutting almost nonstop trees and bamboos bushes in an insanely huge number (in the rain forest), even cooking in hollow bamboos trunks good only for one time use or twice the most. Such criminals every day or else every two days were cutting bamboos large trunks to make out of them one or two disposable casseroles for cooking in them, which once burned or damaged enough after each cooking or after every two cooking, thrown away and cut other bamboos and trees. In their Asian survival videos people learned mostly destruction of the forest (deforestation), destruction of the environment and of the wild life, in huge quantity non-stop (almost in extermination) in the Vietnamese, Indonesians and other Asian rain forests and tropical rain forests survival videos. Your skills and your video was indeed worth posting and showing due to your great respect of the environment, refraining yourself from doing destruction all around your camp or anywhere else while the others in their videos did mostly destruction, marking themselves as 'criminals' (without even realizing). We do hope for them that one day their videos will be used against themselves for their own prosecution and punishment with requirement to pay huge fines, if necessary, through labor camp prisons (if having no money to pay), to pay for the damages they have created, boasting themselves as very skilled while leaving behind themselves only destruction. You did no such thing and that is why most people appreciate your video and not theirs.

I totally agree, keeping it real is nothing to be ashamed of. Too many people use video editing to hide the real struggles & failures. Being honest, shows that no matter how experienced someone is in nature anyone can have failures. Mother nature can be one tough b*tch, having back up plans (equipment) is absolutely essential! Great video!

My firemaking kit involves a saw, knife for splitting and a Bic with a cotton based firestarter as insurance. Gotta get that dry wood from inside thicker material. Then split split split to match stick thickness. Every time i get lazy and think I can get one going with less preparation, I end up failing.

Very cool video. I'm an Army Ranger Veteran. As a grunt, there was no fire in the field. It might give away your position. Many times, I have been so soaking wet with no fire. I have done pushups or air squats for hours in the dark of night to stay warm. It was a hard time, but good to know what the human body can endure in extremes and oh boy, did it make me appreciate good times.

You are much more realistic in your videos than 99% of the other content providers. Thank you for showing what it's actually like. Most people post videos about how they "survived" When in reality they bought a bunch of shit from Amazon and bought their groceries from their local supermarket, then posted their "hard times" in a friends backyard. Respect!

These are by far the most life-like survival episodes I've seen. Our northern European terrain, although it may appear and act wild from time to time, has been stripped of natural resources over centuries of rural living, leaving us with a landscape often bear of possibilities for anyone wanting to practice their skills. Julius is so skilled and knowledgeable that scratching out a very meagre existence is almost possible. Well done on how realistic and well-presented your videos are. I really look forward to more (as well as the roundhouse episodes).

Really enjoyed this short vid! Makes me feel like a kid again. Miss the days I spent in the bush on my own. Normally went for 3 to 7 days at a time. Tried to do it every 3 months and then in December I'd stay for 2 to 3 weeks. I live in South Africa and think it's something that we enjoy doing. Especially us Afrikaans speaking folks. I lived in the mountains for about 5 years. Just me and my dog while I managed a private game reserve and let me tell you..... That was where some of my best memories were made. Keep living this way and you won't grow old. Greetings from Cape Town, South Africa.

Your bow drill technique has improved so much. I used the hand drill almost exclusively for 6 years. Your commentary described the process perfectly. Go slow and build your heat. Then start applying pressure at first sign of smoke. Happy to see the progress

I am no expert by any means when it comes to bush-craft/survival experiences, though I watch alot of content related to it since it interests me so much. Unfortunately there are very limited locations to actually employ things I have wanted to attempt for a while now myself since I am currently livin' here in Dublin. I have noticed though, ALOT of survival videos from people from all different locations, who have been doing challenge after challenge and series after series, and getting the bow drill very VERY wrong. They go nuts on it straight away trying to rush their ember, instead of doing what you're supposed to and slowly and steadily building it up as you described. In the end it causes what should have been like, a half hour of work to turn into several hours of failed attempts before they just get lucky.

@Alan Hughes yup and as cheesy as it sounds, that coal is so delicate.. it's first breath should really be the air around it. Blowing on it should be to move air towards it and create a current. Not to blow your CO2 on it.

  • @alanhughes3172

    @alanhughes3172

@@PackRunner3 Hah, right? I swear sometimes its like they blow on it like crazy simply because it seems like its what they're supposed to do, or they were taught that way. Like, nah mate, it has to be a carefully directed and controlled flow of air, not just randomly picking it up and blowing. Might work to maintain the ember when in great conditions but it is really bad practise for when you find yourself in crappy conditions where that "style" (shall we say) simply results in failure after failure. Gotta admit, I am curious now, if you get to do much survival/bush-craft related stuff in your free time?

@Alan Hughes I don't live far from unregulated desert canyons where I'm at. I used to go almost weekly on survival trips for the better part of a decade. Nowadays my trips are few and far between but I have a solid 9 years at least of making friction fires etc

@@PackRunner3 Dang, that sounds pretty awesome mate. Gotta admit I am quite jealous. xD I used to do a fair bit of Hiking, Kayaking, and even a bit of Abseiling when I was a kid. My Step Bro's Dad was an avid out-doorsman. As far as camping, bush-craft and survival goes, I have VERY little real world experience. I currently have a bunch of gear (medical equipment, tools, fire sets, cooking equipment, fishing equipment, etc.) that is currently sitting gathering dust. :/ Although I have learned alot, through watching videos, general conversation with people I know with real experience or comments with individuals like yourself, That is sadly nothing compared to your level of experience, hence jealous. lol

Dude!! You are Hard-Core! Nice to see some realness to your videos. Finally some real bushcraft skills. Too many bushcrafters on KZread in this situation have a tarp somewhere behind the camera they can get into. I can see you are soaked through and those of us that have been there know what thats like and how that feels. Could see your hands shaking too which is like 60% 70% harder to work... fair play brother! Great video! Really nice seeing you work! Well done mate! Keep up the great vids.. keep it 💯 real! 👌👌

Man, German YT blew up with a guy making a show "7 vs wild" where a bunch of youtubers had to survive one week in Sweden with just 7 items and no food. It was a good format and hats off to anyone who pulled through with that - some amazing endurance and willpower for some of them. But you are doing this so casually "Oh the time went by so fast" - hats off mate.

Nettle was used as long as man existed. Vikings brought it with them when settling in Greenland. Leafs are nutritious, cooked as soup burning disappears and fibres can be used for cloth.

make sure you gather them with gloves and you can put them over the fire for a few seconds to burn off the stinging needles... or just plop them into hot water that you will boil, either way works for getting rid of the stings. you can use nettle for string aswell but it needs quite a bit of mucking around to make

22:43 I looked into it. It may just be best to move the glass further away from the fire. It looks to be the temperature change in the glass that causes it to break. In the fire it gets much hotter than the 100C you need to boil the water. You could also possibly use some rocks to shield the glass from the fire a little to control the heat. What sort of food were you planning on? Were you looking to use fish traps?

Issue with glass is uneven heat. It needs to be heated up evenly on all sides, if there is too great of heat discrepancy it loves to break. Fill jar with water and drop in hot stones, that should be enough insulation with water to not break the glass.
