Neat! I used tae dae this sort of thing a wee bit, but not quite with the level of historic accuracy. I'd usually have a bivvy as well as wool blankets, drank mostly from streams (but had purifying tablets just in-case the water available wasn't good) a wee hipflask of whisky and a bunch of oats, butter, oil, salt, pepper, some honey and cinnamon if I was feeling fancy, and a few apples. Great fun just going for a light-weight adventure over a few munroes! Interesting to learn that a double-plaid is quite effective on its own, though I might be a bit auld for that now, think I'll keep a bivvy handy, I like being dry! 😅 Perhaps one day you'll try a winter expedition with support for safety? Obviously the drovers would be up the hills in the warmer months, mostly, but would be interesting to see how you fare and what you need to manage in winter. Years ago on a more ordinary winter hiking and bothying expedition, we missed our window due to snow on the train tracks heading up to Aviemore, as a result we lost the light before getting to our bothy and had to seek an emergency one in a snow storm! Bit harrowing, but we made it, lol.

Can we all just take a moment to acknowledge just how hard-core these guys are. Most people will not walk the dog across a playing field without full gortex gear and modern boots on, these guys are another level. Hats off and thanks for posting.

That's so funny that this episode just came out. I just got home wearing my great kilt all day today. Went out and about did some things with friends. Went out and had dinner. All wearing my great kilt. That's so bloody cool. Now I get to watch this episode with kilts. I love my great killed. If you don't have a great kilt yet. Save up the money and get one. It's definitely worth it. It was a cold and wet day today. And my great kilt did not fail me and keeping me warm and dry. The rest of the time I have my great kilt folded up at the foot of my bed. And my girlfriend uses it to stay warm at night. Such a great piece of kit

i just wish to be there.... darn... I just want to be one of them. I would like to sit down with them and have a drink and talk about anything. I'd like them to give me some tobacco, a glass of wine, or even just ask me, "How are you today?" And I would answer, and we would talk. And from time to time I'd make a sketch of one of them as a gift. They would accept it, maybe, and keep it somewhere, and a woman would smile at me and ask, "Are you hungry? Great video. My friends and I do historical camping as well here in the Eastern woodlands of the US. We primarily do 18th century, 1770's. Sometimes go hunting with the muskets and tomahawks. Is the pistol a replica? Not sure what the primitive firearms laws are in Scotland.

Great video and I love the banter. Most videos are mainly teaching skills which is good but this is better. One question, don't your bare feet get cold and isn't there a good chance of injury? I'm from Arkansas and as a lad, I usually went barefoot all summer and after the first week the soles of my feet were quite tough but I would not have tried going barefoot in the winter or out in the woods.

I go barefoot in the winter all the time while walking along the coast of South Wales. My feet feel a bit cold for the first ten minutes or so. Then the blood starts pumping to them and they feel warm, even when wet.

Julius, you dont owe us, but it would have been kind to loyal fans to state the channel is more or less no priority anymore. Whether or not you include any details, it would be honourable to manage expectations. From a marketing point of view it would be handy to have your channel as pr for the courses you teach, but without any communication the original fans will feel disgruntled, which affects your brand. All it needed was a short update video or even just a comment or community post. I guess there's gnarly life stuff going on, or a shift of focus on other revenue or local community or whatever it is. Which is fine and understandable for most fans. But the channel bred so many expectations (survival, roundhouse etc) without any feedback, it's unnecessarily alienating interested folks. Fans experience it as ghosting, which is sad because you built a bond with highly interested viewers. Just communicate time scales. (Edit: or don't, just let us know you might be back one day in a future.)

Hello Ties, Appreciate the feedback! Yes, Smooth Gefixt is in quite a dire state atm, and I'm really sorry to have led the fans down and in the unknown. I just got myself in complex situations, and they are not so straightforward to resolve... all that being said, I haven't given up on the channel and the intended projects such as the Living Experience, but they have gotten even harder now to pull off with damaged viewership, etc. The thing with expressing the time scales is that in the past I couldn't make them worthwhile, so I have kind of avoided speaking them out and disappoint the viewers again. But you are right, will try to do a channel update soon..

Also you're wrong because i said explicitly he does NOT owe anyone content and does NOT owe anyone explanations or justifications. I said it twice and wished him well. I phrased it kindly. I said he could maybe just give a small glimpse of an update to manage expectations because relations are also about communicating expectations. I truly dislike the upload scheduling and algorithm hunting; it's unhealthy. I never suggested he should manage those types of expectations; burnout is not a joke and happens to many on social media. I just said he could maybe simply leave a tiny message somewhere saying things have occupied him but he might be back one day. He responded. We're good. Also being a youtuber or doing youtube as outreach to share and thereby sell contenf/products/services, can be and often is a promotional tool, beyond being someone's personal natural art. Being a youtuber can be a profession even. And i loooove old skool YTbers who just make stuff for the making. So you don't need to shame me as if you're president of the fanclub and their saviour. Go start a cult somewhere. You may apologise to me.
