Started reloading at age 7, Dad was in the USAF avid shooter. Growing up while other kids favored 22 LR’, I had my eye on the 30-06, 130 grains Hornady SP’s 54.0 gr IMR4064 thumping out around 3250ish fps and the additional velocity on jackrabbits and coyotes showed what hydrostatic shock is all about. Grew up on U.S gun writer Jack O'Connor and his 270 and Elmer Merrifield Keith including his 44’s still shooting those 44 loads today. This 6.8 TVSM concept splitting the two calibers of 5.56x45 and 7.62x51 it’s going to work. Retired now, I can go to work with this company. Elmer Keith would’ve preferred a large heavy bullet but Jack O’Connor is smiling down from heaven saying I’m sure, good job!

If this ammunition is genuinely 20% lighter, gives 50% more range and runs cooler, whilst burning 8% to 10% less propellant, meaning no overheating for sustained firing, than brass cased ammunition with only a change of barrel, the range of benefits are considerable. No modifications to the weapon, no retraining for the soldiers to use the new ammunition, 8% to 10% less propellant, 20% less weight, 50% more range, cooler running for enhanced reliability and accuracy! These are indeed impressive. As is the internal case design to improve the burn efficiency of the propellant, allowing for an 8% to 10% reduction in propellant per round! I cannot recall such impressive improvements ever being possible simply by changing out the ammunition and barrel of a weapon before! If the composite cases remain cool during the firing cycle, then I assume that they will be unaffected by extreme heat as found in some parts of the world. This ammunition has the ability to give the military something they've never before had, so it will be interesting to see how its future looks...

If they do adopt this cartridge which I really hope they do all I ask is that after the adoption of the cartridge and the bullpup rifle try to make a machine gun that's lighter than the m240 or saw to go along with a plastic ammo and the shortest barrel I'd go for the saw is probably an 18-inch barrel at least for the saw replacement but if you can replace the m240 just give it to 338 Norma Magnum with a plastic casing and keep the 24-inch Barrel just make the rest lighter last thing please give the 338 Norma Magnum the same cartridge shape as the 6.8

Imagine this but in 5.56 and with some faster burning powder

My guess is 145gr at 3100~ fps So what’s the barrel life gonna be? 1000 rounds?

i think we can all agree this technology is awesome but i have 2 important questions 1 are the cases reloadable 2 isn't this going to be horrible for the environment just using all this plastics

The plastic case probably not reloadable but its horribly cheap anyway. And the plastic case is biodegradable.

@@Xyb3rTeCh i remember them saying the plastic cases where cold to the touch when they where shot so I feel like that means they arent even getting warm enough to get deformed thats why i thought they where reloadable

@@Xyb3rTeCh Just like the majority of the current recyclables that don't get recycled because it's the wrong type. I love the idea of it being lighter but I don't know if reality justifies the downfalls.

Uncle Sam will be dumb as f*** if they didn't go for it though one of the reasons why they went to 556 was cuz of the weight and this is a good compromise between the weight and Firepower

@@danielsnook7362 oh, absolutely. But you know how unc Sam's contracting works sometimes. They go to whoever slips the fattest envelope under the desk. And I'm pretty sure the new generation weapon's arms race is looking like it's going that way

@@danielsnook7362 ​ Yup that and the chamber pressure isn't insane unlike SIG's solution (60k psi vs +80k psi; much shorter barrel life etc), meaning DoD won't see a huge uptick on annual operational costs for short to long term maintenance on small arms. But then again this is the Army and not the Marines, efficiency and doing more with less is not their motto.

@@jwhiskey534 yeah they probably won't choose it cuz it's bullpup and a bias towards the ammunition but in all honesty I'd rather take the General Dynamics Bullpup over the Sig Sauer spear and switching to a heavier bullet that's nearly double the size of an M4 round so having that longer 20 inch barrels going to be pretty damn necessary if you want a good velocity whereas the sig saur spear is only 13 inchs so you're losing a lot of potential velocity but if range is all that f****** important they could just give the Bullpup the same amount of PSI that they're using on the Sig Sauer spear and then I'd be pretty damn confident the Bullpup will outrange it by a long shot

Leave it to Govt to pay $6 a round.
