5000fps .300Win Mag vs 1/2 inch AR500

Now obviously I can just go up to 1" AR500 steel plate and that will stop it but that's a ridiculous target. You can stop anything with enough material. I've made something MORE penetrating than M2 AP ammo. Gib Level IV ceramic plz.

The rounds that are known to penetrate 1/2" AR500 steel (per shot) are: 1. The .50BMG AP, API, APIT, Raufoss and no doubt the SLAP. .50BMG SLAP will also goes thru 1" AR500 2. The 4,000 fps .308 SLAP 3. And know we know 5,000 fps .22caliber 55 grain bullet will as well.

I think the solid copper bullets might not work as well as the lead bullets, because at these very high impact velocities, the density of the bullet becomes the most important factor, and lead has a higher density than copper.

I've read stories from guys that have pulled the bullets from .30-06 M2 AP and then reloaded it in .300 Win Mag cases with interesting results doing this type of thing. Apparently it takes a little bit of experimentation to get the load just right but pre-pulled M2 AP bullets are easy to find on Gunbroker. Might not be worth the trouble if you can already do it like this though.

@@jedidiahdanley1605 Makes me wonder how the plastic sabot would handle a higher twist. I wonder if there would come a point in which the pressure becomes too great and you'd see a mechanical failure or if you'd find that the plastic would end up pushing through the rifling instead of spinning along with it as it should. Part of the reason these things are so inaccurate is because everyone is shooting these smaller rounds through barrels designed for the original parent case and not compensating for the fact that the smaller rounds are going to have to be spun at a faster rate in order to take advantage of their original ballistic design characteristics. If this could be solved, this would be an extremely high performance round. I'm just not sure plastic would be the solution for the sabot.

Brett Koski The sabot separating early is a fear of mine. But it's a 30 Cal sabot in a 46 Cal suppressor so it has a bit if wiggle room. I probably wouldn't attempt this if I was using a 30cal can for sure. If it hit the baffles it would impact at 5000fps which would destroy at least the baffle it stuck if not the whole can. Yes the sabot does separate, I haven't done enough testing to figure out where but by the time it hits paper at 100yards they are separated. So somewhere between 0-100yards lol. Probably within the first 5 or so. The plan is to try to get something like level 4 plates but no one seems to respond to me.

Also for the 40 grain accelerator, that’s not too impressive since 556 can get 4200 FPS in a 24 barrel. Figure this would be significantly above that. Wssm is little more than a .220 swift with different case geometry. My hornady load manual shows .223 wssm hitting 4600 fps with a 40 grain bullet. This video is showing 5000 fps with a 55 grain bullet.

223 wssm, 220 swift, and 22-250 don't come close. Even a 30-06 with accelerator round doest come close. Awesome setup and wicked penetration! Keep up the good work...

@@buckfutter99 Excatly, this is using a .223 saboted in a 300 Win Mag cartridge, he is using SAAMI spec chamber pressures for 300 Win Mag. This would also be unenforceable if legislated as "armor piercing", anyone can make plastic sabots, especially 3D printers, hell you can even make them by hand, although it is very tedious.

There's no bullet travels 5000 feet per second the fastest bullet is from a 220 Swift which travels 4000 feet per second😒

Your TOTALLY WRONG !!!!! A .300 WIN MAG loaded with a 210 gr. Cutting Edge BTHP WILL BLOW RIGHT THRU THAT 1/2" AR500 , done it many MANY times testing rounds for AP performance....... And I highly doubt your getting 5000fps - more like 4400fps - put those rounds thru a chrony and check them.....
