I just got one of these. Yep lots of recoil! I tried staying on the gun to see where my shot hit - no way. It takes me 2-3 seconds just to figure out where I am!!! I did put a muzzle brake on it which tamed it to more like .308. Corelokt - I shot the new "tipped" Corelokt next to the traditional. Amazing difference. 3 shots same hole with the "tipped" about 2" with the traditional.

I’m suprised the sabots are legal, as the police can’t find any rifle groves on the bullet to match a barrel if used for a crime

what type of plastic is the sabot? (i'm assuming its plastic). its impressive to me that a plastic sabot could hold up to those pressures and velocity and still be grabbed by the rifling.

Those saboted 30 cal have since their introduction had issues with accuracy due to poor stabilization. I can't imagine shooting sabots through any can, even oversized. Why shoot with the can anyway? Seems that the supersonic ( extremely) ammo kinda defeats the purpose. Just let her bark.

Are your sabot's custom machine cut or simply molded?? And are they fairly soft or slightly hard?? You may just want to delve into this as well for flight stability. But I'm most certainly not trying to tell you how to do this monumental task and you've definitely picked a doosy young man 👨!!! Again I wish you all the luck in the intier world sweetheart!!!

5024 fps is equivalent to Mach 4.464476 on sea level. That's faster than a SR-71 with Mach 3.2 @ 85000 feet ( 3540 km/h @ 25908m, I know, Mach 3.2 on sea level is 3951 km/h, but that's sea level and the SR-71 only flew so fast @ high altitude because the Pratt & Whitney J58 engines are most efficient there and the airframe would've gotten too hot in the higher air density low down)

What wind speed is room temperature? 650 -700mph?? I know its still cold at 450mph - 500mph , my brain tells me heat friction through atmosphere is a little over exaggerated . Scaling up what it takes to even feel warmth very little is gonna be happening at 3500kmh , maybe 100°c tops . wouldn't even bother alloy , 100°c is lower then the working temperature of a hdpe plastic kettle. The metal rich meteors cook off because they're going 30 - 40 thousand miles* an hour .

The rounds that are known to penetrate 1/2" AR500 steel (per shot) are: 1. The .50BMG AP, API, APIT, Raufoss and no doubt the SLAP. .50BMG SLAP will also goes thru 1" AR500 2. The 4,000 fps .308 SLAP 3. And know we know 5,000 fps .22caliber 55 grain bullet will as well.

I think that Athlon made that low distance parallax to cater to the PCP airgun community and I know several buddies absolutely love it as a precision airgun scope. I have an Argos BTR 8-34x56 on my 6.5mm Creedmoor BR project rifle and it is a really good value. The APMR reticle is crisp, the subject is bright but not washed-out, and it has held zero near flawlessly. And supposedly Athlon really honors that lifetime warranty (just like Vortex). I dont know of a better scope in its class <$500, but you know how subjective scopes are.

Most of the issues with hyper velocity sabot rounds come from inadequate rifling as .22 rounds are not meant to be fired out of a barrel optimized for longer .30 caliber projectiles as many 30 cal rifles are offered in a 1 to 12 twist rate. HOWEVER: Most 30 caliber rifles such those in the 30-06 are now also offered in 1 in 10 twist rate nowadays which is closer to the optimal 1 in 9 twist rate for 62 grain rounds like MK-318 and M855A1. While Accuracy is not guaranteed to be as good as a normal longer 30 caliber bullet (Around 2.8-3.5 MOA depending on how the round was loaded which frankly is more than good enough for most varmints save for the smallest ones) it is acceptable for the velocity the bullets are going, as the faster bullets travel the less effective spin becomes at stabilizing the round without a corresponding increase in Length to diameter ratio. However, I do have an interesting proposition. Instead of .223 rounds why not load 5.45 russian rounds (Actual diameter 5.6mm)? An 80 grain round for the caliber exists and it is a longer bullet, and the optimal twist rate is also 1 in 10. This gives it the perfect combination theoretically for: -A high muzzle velocity in excess of 4800 feet/sec and likely in the ballpark of 5000+ with 300WM cases -A stable projectile with the optimal length to diameter ratio that has a twist rate that matches those of most 30 caliber bullets -Good energy retention as that 80 grain round is rather heavy for its caliber. -Accuracy as a fast and stable round = less drift and drop. To give you an idea of how accurate the 80 grain 5.45 7U1 projectiles were, they achieved a 1.04 inch R50 group at 100 meters, or roughly a 2 inch group in American standards. This gives it a mechanical accuracy of 2 MOA.

I just have to say this lol, 400 or 900 dollars is NOT cheap. And NOT low end. Ive killed countless deer and hogs with a 150$ burris or centerpoint 3-9x40. I have a millet trs 1 ill milldot i give 330$ for, and a athlon argos illum 6-24x50 i give 290$ for. Same as the video just diff reticle. I consider those high end scopes. But its a free country. Feel free to overspend. I just find it really weird youtube champions say several hundred for a scope is cheap. Then what the hell is expensive? I take it yall are just range shooters and never actually use the gun for hunting. Yall are like a big 4x4 truck that never sees off road.

Why would you want such a light weight bullet in a 300wm 30cal the pont is long range energy them light weight bullet drop off fast in 30cal , if I want speed I'd get a 204 or something

I am firm believer in recoil managment. Recoil pads can be changed. I like the Pachmayr slip-on even better than the Limbsaver stuff. Professional shooters like military snipers have a few ways of cushioning the recoil for extended periods of fire. The one trigger flinch I saw prone looked more like a stab on the trigger from trying to go "now!" as the crosshairs got in the right place. I have done that, also. That's an easy fix. Quit caring about the target and just concentrate on the reticle itself. My boss shoots a .300 Win Mag and yeah, it can wear you out.

To answer the question about after market, I don't know about 4 years ago but right now, go to Boyd's and try the At One. Choose maker Thompson Center. Choose model, in this case, Compass. Then choose action as long action because this is .300 Winchester Magnum. It will tell you that your action screws must be 7.60 inches apart, so check that for fit. At MDT (the guys who make chassis rigs) they don't have a pull down that shows TC Compass. But they have a very responsive tech support guy (he also does there tutorial videos.) Measure the distance between your action screws and he will tell which model fits. That's what I did with my Mossberg Patriot .308 Win that I put into an LSS Gen 2 Chassis, a folding stock adapter, and SCS buttstock. You can also email or call McMillan stocks and give them your dimensions, including the taper of barrel, of which there is not much on these.
