If you want to reach the limit of velocity for your propellant itself you have to use really much lighter projectiles in your Sabots!I took the .25 ball bearing and when fired from Mosin rifle with a full charge it actually reached the limit of velocity for the powder that is used in this ammunition!By the way the actual result was over 8000 fps!At that speed such a light projectile doesn't have as much energy as the plain and simple regular 7.62×54R because it's a very low weight and so the resulting velocity will represent the limit for the propellant itself..

Your factory head space is out of whack, if you're having to crank on the bolt handle like that to get into battery. Not reamed deep enough. No joke. Id have a gun smith check it

Cool video man. I'm thinking that maybe the sabots in those aren't seating right, mixed with maybe the wrong kind of powder (though I know less about that)... I've watched all three of the videos with these saboted rounds and the fireball out the barrel looks like there is a lot of unburnt powder. Idk, cool idea though. Be fun to see you play with them more and see if you can get them up to 5k fps.

A few years back I shot a 1” inch thick steel plate at about 35 yards with a Winchester.375 H&H Magnum, bullet was a .270 gr. SP this round went three quarters into the steel and budged the back of the plate, that is one awesome round. Not sure what grade of steel it was, just something I dug out of a scrap pile.

Yes, my grandfather was in Europe in WWII, but he mostly carried a Thompson on scouting missions. I remember he said he would tape 2 mags together. When the Tommy shot it wanted to rise, so he said if there were multiple targets they learned to turn it sideways and let it climb horizontally instead of throwing rounds in the air. I guess it was light for when it was just 3 or 4 guys doing the scouting. I remember my grandfather talking about being able to tell the German machine guns from the American ones because the cyclic rate was so much faster than ours were. He was really impressed with the German guns. He said there were places where there was so much shooting going on that there wasn't a blade of grass that didn't have a hole in it and some places you would walk a mile without ever putting your foot on the ground because of all the dead bodies. He was in Patton's 3rd Army 5th Division. At battle of the buldge etc. He said EVERY river crossing was a major battle but they just didn't get named. 3rd Army covered more mileage in the shortest amount of time in military history up to that point. I know he said when speaking of Saint-Lo in France that they "Liberated the Hell out of it", hehe. Don't reckon there was much left. I miss my grandfather!

@@ozzymandius666 We used to shoot lots of conicals turned bass akwards in muzzleloaders. We even hunted some that way. I don't think they sealed up all that great to get all that speed but I remember my dad shooting a squirrel longways with a 45 Cal ML. It was facing him. It literally turned it inside out with what was left of it's head hanging out it's arse. We we're bored and it was time to leave and needed to shoot the loads out anyways. Never would have believed it had I not seen it. Shot a big spike as it was jumping a fence and running away. Hit it mid air. Went from it's junk all the way up the abdomen and lodged in it's left front shoulder. That was with a 54cal 425gr Hornady Great Plains Hollow Point. They have massive penetration. Only round I have recovered from a deer with that round. It may run a few yards, but it's gonna have a 3 ft of hurt from tail to shoulders.

@@ozzymandius666 That 303 is an underrated cartridge, but on the steep side to shoot. Family has been shooting the 30-06 for hurting since WW1. I would love to try a 243 Win sometime. Seems that would be a great overall round. Light rnds for varmints and heavy for deer and recoil friendly for kids.

I think you have access to a 22-250, but have you tried a 220 Swift yet? I know both of those are cooking along 4k plus. My grandfather gave me some of the old Remington Accelerators in 30-06 with 22 bullet and sabot. Those used to cook along hot, but were wildly inaccurate. About the only thing they are good for is what you are doing today....plus that plastic would foul the barrel. Been years ago but I seem to remember they would shoot slightly better after a few fouling rounds.

I think something is wrong with the sabots with the slow speeds you're getting.

Imagine if you turned a 556 tungsten round and put sabot around it...

That would be an M995 AP round, you can find the pulled bullets online, it has a hardened tungsten carbide core.

Makes me wonder if you can shoot some sabplots on a cardboard plate at 100 yards? & see how accurate they are?

I’ve watched several videos and don’t see much on the accuracy. Accuracy is very important to me, no matter the velocity of you can’t hit the target what’s the point of shooting the bullet ?

Take that bolt and sand and polish it and you won't have that issue start with 400 grit wet dry paper up to 2000 grit then polish it .
