Bill of materials
18 pcs stainless steel blades cost $50
Other parts are made by myself or Recycling on old machines
Frame uses CNC engraving machine to cut 10MM PVC sheet;
16MM hexagonal steel shaft;
6003 inner six corner bearing;
30:1 worm gearbox;
200W hand drill;
Wooden base;
The shredder in this video is just right,
But it can't crush larger plastic,
It uses PVC plate as the bearing seat,
It will break under more powerful conditions, so steel must be used.
The old worm reducer in the video can't withstand the greater torque either.
The blade must be sharpened to reduce motor power.
There are still many areas that need improvement.
Want to get a reliable shredder,
The actual cost time is much higher.
If you want to make it , I recommend you watching my videos playlist .

    I'd like to suggest a simple product idea that I think can be successful for all small-scale plastic recyclers, and I'll be posting it to all the channels I watch: make flat, disk-like platters that can be placed around common-sized property fenceposts, to prevent vegetation (weed or grass) growth at the posts themselves. Various designs can be considered such as a disk with a slot/hole in the center and a simple slit from center to perimeter; or a 2-piece design that overlaps approximately 45 degrees, so as to both make fabrication simpler and prevent vegetation grow-through. Center holes could be made variously for round wooden posts, approximately 12 cm/5 inches... or rectangular approximately 4x8 inches for concrete posts. I volunteer at a horse farm and they mow their fields, trying to cut closely to their 500 (?) posts but have to spend more fossil fuels both cutting more tediously AND following up with hand-held trimmer tools. This is an ideal market: outdoors like so much recycling already; low specificity/quality demands; and it turns waste into a CO2-reducing solution. Consider this comment, defining the conception of such products, a release of any claims of invention/patent on such products, whether full-circle or overlapping. There are some products on the market but none seem to be simple or cheap. Maybe one of the prominent recyclers who already have ecommerce set up can be an aggregator who facilitates the direct shipment of the product from many producers.

    @@diychen Then perhaps you should not mention the cost in the first place. Depending on what you may have laying around, and which machines you may have access to, your costs could range from $0.00 to a couple hundred. So it's pointless to mention the price unless we're talking commonly available parts you can buy new, and for which you'd preferably provide a price breakdown in the BOM. The only reason you'd mention that ridiculously low price is to attract views, aka clickbait. If I have to buy a paper shredder for the blades, the cheapest one comes out to about $48. And then I still need to get a gear reduction so that the puny motor has a chance of chewing through the material, and some sort of case for the thing to sit in. As others in various threads have already pointed out: the cost of the gear reduction alone is a couple hundred, yet somehow you maintain that this can be made for around $50? Does math work differently on your planet? And yes, I know what DIY means. It has nothing to do with retrofitting (which means adding new tech to old items), nor using old/used items (that's called "recycling"). It means "do it yourself", and is most often done with new materials bought at the hardware store.
