Let's test some colored pencils! I am comparing the Crayola colors of the world pencils and tested them against the more expensive Prismacolor Premier portrait set for a full portrait.

I do too! I have prismacolor but I sometimes prefer crayola, especially if I’m doing really light colors with minimal layering. They’re so waxy and have less pigment so I don’t tend to see the pencil lines as much. To OP: Excellent drawing demo! You are a skilled artist!

The Crayola set feels like something a teacher buys for a classroom so everyone has a shade close to their own skin tone, but the Prismacolor set is clearly better for someone who is looking for more detail.

Maybe it also depends on what you're used to. I've seen some artists make realistic portraits with this crayola set without using other blending materials. I also personally like using crayola more than faber castel. They blend better. The key is to apply colors really, really lightly. I haven't used Prismacolor but they obviously better quality.
I am so glad crayola have done lots of colours for skin, usually you get pink beige and drank brown, they deserve more hype!
I love her style 😀😀😀

Wow, what a great comparison. The prismas are so much warmer, so much more alive. I used the Crayolas in a colouring book, and although the subject was Caucasian, I ended up using the very darkest shades for shadows. So yes, I can see the need for darker shades. I even wished there were darker shades for my picture, and resorted to a Prismacolor sepia pencil. ( I love that pencil. I go through ridiculous numbers of it.) All in all, they were a good, not great, addition to my "box of many brands", and they are definitely colours that I will use in my wildlife art, so a worthwhile purchase. And even with such limited palettes, you've done a wonderful job on this portrait. (Edited for spelling error)
i really love these videos, Temi, thank you. i used to be a lover of drawing as a child and life made me lose the interest. now i’m finally finding my love and passion for it again. i’ve recently bought new colouring pencils and i cant wait to delve back in! your videos really help me to understand what to do with blending and the colour scheme etc. it’s been fun to try out the blending technique in my sketch pad as you do and get a feel for all the colours from my faber - castell set! though after this video i’m definitely going to take a sneaky look at the prismacolour sets!

Wow you are wonderful ❤️ I’m not a artist but I grew up around art and going to museums and appreciating it. I would purchase your work In a heart beat, I hope one day I see your work in a museum.
Nice nails! And the Prismacolor side won by a long shot. I compared Prismacolor and Crayola also in one of my drawings before and although I had fun coloring with the Crayola pencils, it was way better and easier to layer and color with the Prismacolor pencils.
You're such an inspiration, I always learn something new with you, thanks for the vids 😊
Hey Temi ! I've been a long time fan , and I know how much you talk about the ugly phase and I appreciate that . Before I used to not have an ugle phase??? But like since then I've improved a lot and there is always an ugly phase in my process now , especially where you have to laydown the base layers and have those crazy colours like oranges and greens , but because of you mentioning the ugly phase so much, I never gave up on those pieces and they turned out awesome . I know you might not see this , but I hope you do...
I cant wait to see the results!!!

This makes me realize how much easier my drawing would be if the Derwent pencils in my skin tone Franken-set were the same color on the outside as the led is instead of all being a rosewood brown so I can SEE better gah. The fact that the outside is A skintone but not the skintone it IS is confusing when I'm working in the zone.
