I'm an artist who has never really had much money, so I've mostly only ever used types of pencils like Crayola and arteza, and just lately on my bday, my grandma surprised me with two packs of prisma pencils, and I swear I almost cried, it was one of the happiest days of my life. And I just want to let you know temi, and I've really loved your videos alot and I just want to say your an amazing artist, keep drawing, stay well 💜

The Arteza cores are just a harder led. Not all wax colored pencils are the same. There is a range between softness and hardness. A harder core allows for more small details because it doesn't break or crumble. These two sets are good companions, Prismacolor for the base layers and Arteza for the details.

Just as a heads-up the Arteza seem to have a protective coating that you need to sharpen out before use. They aren't prisma buttery, but they're a decent dupe for much less. (Outside of the US, I think Prismas are much cheaper in their homeland).

Prsima colors are cheap in the art world, polychromos are mor expensive but oil based and harder to layer and blend but everything else it better (especially for realism!) caran dache luminance are the most expansive and are waxed based like prisma color, but has a higher percentage of oil and it harder. I have all 3 brands (120 polychromos, 72 prismas, 12+20 luminance) i find prsimas are the worst quality (not on paper) and break super easily and are hard to sharpen and have ultra smooth finishes (sometimes too smooth in realism) and superior layering and blending, luminance it is easy to sharpen, they blend extremely well and is able to have fine details unlike polychromos. Polychromous are harder to blend (if not used right), has not the best white pencil but is superior for holding its point and fine details, and sharpens super easily, polychromos are very ideal for ultra realism In ranking i would put a close 1. Polychromos 2.luminance 3. Prisma

This is a great video - thanks for the information. I have both of these sets, and yes, I like them a lot. But, I'm always on the fence about them. I don't trust the lightfastness of Arteza (based on reviews and my own experience with them) ... To be honest, Prismacolor has never given any evidence of their lightfastness - or how they derived at this conclusion. For some people, this is not important at all; especially if you're just starting out. I'm a professional folk artist, and I sell my work, so it's key for me. But, on another note, the colors in both sets are glorious, and I think they're great for work that you plan to sell prints of (and save your originals). That being said, I'm sticking with my Polychromos, which I had to buy open stock to build up my set lol ... All in all, I've watched you make magic happen with the best and the worst of colored pencils. Thank You so much for sharing.

From the looks of it, it seems like the arteza side is more detailed while on the Prisma side, it looks like it’s more smoother.

Amazing! Thank you. I was tempted to buy the arteza but I already have prismacolor. I love pencils but ones that resist the process are so unnecessary. Saving my money for better.

I have castle arts, prismalcolours and arteza pencils and prismalcolours are my go to but I must say that castle arts are quite good too. Also, arteza pencils feel quite strange and not great but stick with them if you can because they get easier to work with! If you haven't tried castle arts pencils yet then I highly recommend them. They're affordable and I really like the quality of them

Honestly I can barely tell a difference in the sides, but maybe that's just me. I guess if I had to say one it would be the Prismacolours, since you said they were easier to work with

@@ewaoluwajobi4477 I don't get what you're trying to say. If you're saying the sides are different, yeah I know. I said BARELY different, not NO difference. If you're saying the Prismacolours are easier to work with, then ok? I can't think of anything you might be trying to say /nm

I felt your pain with the Arteza situation, altough I must say I have seen crazy good stuff done with those pencils, and I like using them on textured paper. In the other hand, i found a very good price on the Derwent Drawing pencils and went for a splurge... I must say it feels weird picking up Arteza pencils at the moment 🤣🤣 i think you would find interest in the bruynzeel pencils from Royal Talens ☺️

On smooth paper the technique is a lot different, I use the Bristol smooth for my really glossy photorealistic work and the vellum when I want to layer a lot more.

Prismacolor is the winner! I too love the smoothness and feel these pencils have to offer. As for paper I would've gone for one with more grit/texture. I find smooth paper to be good for pastels. Just my opinion! 😅
