Not about videos, tricks of the sls level... i'm talking about observe the little things that happen in a spot. That's a way to learn what is unexpected. Greetings from SJC, Brasil!

This video really inspired me, you said well: no matter how old you are or how fit you are, if skateboarding catches you it's just a matter of time and finding the right motivation to improve and learn. Absurd that as a kid I had a toy skateboard and it never took me that much, in fact almost not at all. Now I am 37 years old, married with 2 small children, trying a skate given by an uncle something clicked, I always keep my board in the trunk of the car and as soon as possible I cut out an hour of pumping! the feeling of freedom flying on those wheels is incredible! thank you for your valuable work and motivate us every day!

Truth #2 is so money. As a beginner at 2 months, after viewing a ton of videos, I finally realized this is a sport of falling, with skating being the reward. I've only bodied once off my board. Which explains my slow progress, ... Now I just have to commit and practice falling. Certainly difficult.

Love this video, I've had a cruiser for over 25 years, but at 42 just got into skateboarding a month ago. Been mostly skating transitions at the skatepark and grinding curbs around home. Wrist-guards have helped to confidently push myself at the skatepark (after a hard fall), I also go early when it's less crowded. Great videos Justin, I've watched a few old one's to help me understand the physics going on, super useful.

One of the key components, in my opinion, of being a more advanced skater, is having an extremely solid understanding of the basic concepts (physics wise and mindset), so I think you're smart not to take things that are labeled as 'beginner tips' for granted, even at your level (and I feel like a lot of skaters forget this stuff after a while)

Great points! My 2€, “compare yourself to yourself, not to others.” In other words, notice the progress you are making without pegging it to where someone else is. (Of course, competition/aiming higher can be motivating, if you keep a healthy mindset.) Also, neuroscience tells us to “enjoy” the struggles and failures and think of them as a part of the upward progression. (Dopamine tied to process rather than only tied to “success.”)

Skateboarding shares something with ice skating. Just built myself board and tested it few times indoors (waiting for summer) and it felt really wobbly at first even at standstill. Watched handful of videos and figured out how to get myself moving, and flew off the board several times and almost banged my head to floor.. It felt exactly like ice skating first time, bailed several times getting bruises on knees, elbows and even getting scar from faceplanting rough ice.. But I like it! When the summer comes again I will for sure jump on the board and just keep on going.

Very good advice im getting back into it after 27 or so years so its pretty cool i was given an old nash, black out and a sector 8 long board the green one looks like a torpedo its fun and super quiet but just feels unsafe for now , so i think maybe i,ll stick to the blackout board much like the one you ride, has the powell wheels, trying out different boards is fun especially with different lengths and wheels, so i basically decided after all the ones that this setup was best to practice and relearn on seems to be working out good

This was a great video, man! Last January I just returned to skating and have been with it for a full year now... though I'm a geezer at 37 I've never felt this alive or had such fun in my life (and this was my replacement for boozing... booze+skate=fun(but lots of needless falling without learning much)). Your approach to skating is really Zen, I dig it. Oh!!! Also... are you in the ATX area? Seeing your No Comply shirt got me wondering.. if so, you ever hit House Park up?

5 truths i’ve experienced since i started 10 months ago at 45years. #1: i often get tips and support at skateparks despite my poor level, even by former pro Bastien Salabanzi 😊. #2 and 3: got shocks and bruises on knees, shines, elbow and the worst on hips. So wear set of pads if you are an OG like me. #5: get on a joyful ride of: try-fail-learn-repeat. thanks for all your qualitative videos 👍
