Tony didn’t fumbled his potential. It got brutally beat out of him by Gaethje. His brain is unable after this amount of CTE to keep up with the eye-hand conditioning , movement etc

He means that he fumbled his potential by doing two weight cuts so close to each other on a short notice fight instead of waiting and getting a title shot when he recovered from the first weight cut.

There was also a very REAL curse on Tony by some Russian witchcraft, where it caused him to trip on a cord and ruin his career with an injury before he could face Khabib. His fight with Khabib fell apart 5 times in a row, with the cord stopping their 5th fight. I understand why nobody wanted to give Tony an opportunity to fight. But make no mistake, someone didn't want him to face Khabib. Francis had the same severe "random" knee injury occur just 2 weeks before his contract was set to expire with the UFC against Gane. MMA curses are no joke.

He does bear a good deal of the blame tho, for training for his ego rather than skill, for insisting on cutting weight twice in a month for no reason other than to get some petty bragging rights over Khabib. Imagine if Tony had entered an actual training camp 8 years ago rather than just training with Wing Chun dummies/led pipes and Eddie Bravo...

I think Khamzat got ruined by covid too, although if he gave himself a chance to recover he may have been ok so maybe you could blame him for that

  • @madgavin7568
    @madgavin75682 ай бұрын

There's more to Tony fumbling his potential than cutting weight twice for his Gaethje fight. After he had that knee injury which cancelled the Khabib fight, dude did not allow his knee to heal properly, instead trying to heal it himself. That stupid decision ended his prime years. Tony really was too tough, delusional and stupid for his own good.

  • @jamesmc1696

I dont see this talked bout nearly enough when it comes to Tony's decline. Yes he did beat Pettis and Cerrone but those fights were competitive before they were stopped and Cerrone and Pettis werent in their primes at that point. If he left his knee recover properly who knows what he could or couldnt have achieved.

Khamzat is the killer for me because he had so much momentum. The war with Burns grew the hype, then the UFC gave him a PPV headline against Diaz setting him up for a title shot… and then he missed weight and also lost all sense of direction. Hope he gets back on track soon, could definitely be a champ at 170 or 185.

I don’t think he was lying about the UFC deciding that they didn’t want him to fight Nate. Why does nobody remember Khamzat’s coach, who was out of line, saying, right after he got over pneumonia, that he had permanent lung damage? His career was damaged by ridiculously bad healthcare. Dana had to fly him to the U.S. just so he might be able to return and so he wouldn’t die.

Khamzat's problem is that he can't get a visa to the US due to him being best friends with Ramzan Kadyrov. He probably can't get into Canada, the UK and Australia either so his fight opportunities are limited. This isn't just speculation on my part. His BJJ coach, Alan Nascimento, mentioned it back in October but a lot of people seemed to have missed it.

@@FightincI think Khamzat's move to the United Arab Emirates was done with his visa problems in mind. Despite spending years in Sweden he still has only a Russian passport. People from Russia have a hard time getting visas right now as it is, but Khamzat's Kadyrov connection makes it even worse for him. People on a UAE passport also need a visa to get into the US but they don't have the whole "war in Ukraine" thing hanging over their heads. We'll have to see what happens once he gets his new travel documents.

Khamzat didn't fumble his potential, he's still most likely going to be champ one day. But the problem is that he was supposed to be next Khabib in terms talent, and the next Conor in terms of draw, and he was very well on his way there, but then Burns made him look very human plus the fact that he fights once per year-and-a-half means it's impossible to maintain that momentum in a sport that moves so fast unless you're already a well established main draw. So now most of us fans simply don't care anymore about what he's been up to.

I’m kind of disappointed now. i do think it had to do with covid why he isn’t active. Because he had so many side effects and all that. But before i was convinced he would be champ but not so much anymore. I want to see him as champ but rn realistically he don’t deserve the shot. And i think calling out every fan is pretty cringe. Ive never wanted my favourite athletes to retire as much as Ive wanted Tony to. The NBA would take a hit if/when Lebron retired, the NHL will take Ovi and Crosby retire, Football will take a hit when Messi and Ronaldo retire. The thing is, all those guys are still performing. Their legacy is being strengthened by just how long theyre all performing at elite levels. Tony just isnt there anymore. Its painful watching him because youre just picturing absolute hell 10+ years down the line when he inevitably is dealing with insanely unfortunate health problems due to the sheer damage hes taken. I can admire a guy running through the fire, true fighting spirit, but we wanna see you enjoy life after fighting. We dont wanna see him bed ridden, we dont wanna see him dealing with mental health problems due to CTE, we wanna see a smiling El Cucuy sitting ringside 20 years from now getting to appreciate the young fighters he inspiried. We wanna see him making it into the HOF and getting an opportunity to pass down everything hes learned. Thats just as much of the journey of being a fan of a athlete. Its nothing compared to seeing them play or fight in their prime, but its a nice sense of solace that theyve found purpose beyond their craft. These guys make insane amounts of money, yes it started with a passion for the sport. But so many of them came from nothing and sought out the opportunity to give themselves and their families financial freedom. So when they get to the point where theyre hurting their ability to enjoy everything they worked for.....its sad. I think about guys like Kobe Bryant or to a degree Muhammed Ali (no he didnt die, but his Parkinsons really effected our view of him. For most of us we saw a frail old man who was a shell of the man who shook the world, and it was sad....) We didnt really get to see Kobe enjoy his life after basketball. We didnt get to see him thrive with his kids, be able to pass on that knowledge or see him get to appreciate everything he did for the game in terms of all the young kids who are now in the league, who grew up and pursued basketball because of him. We want that for Tony. The UFC is doing a massive disservice by continueing to give him fights. If they cared about him as a person, theyd talk him out of it. Even if it hurts the organization, you gotta do whats right by the guy whoes done so much for you. Force the guy to retire and take a break. Its hard for athletes to find purpose after their careers so give him opportunities to stay in the business without getting his head bashed in every 6 months.

Just an FYI, all your footage was of the "old" Conor. The new person they have doesn't seem to look anything like Conor the UFC fighter, which is probably why it's taking so long for him to train for a fight. He could have had a shot back 2019 after the RDA win but then he was inactive, got removed from the rankings then had a no contest against Belal and then almost got kod by Nate and was inactive for a year.

Eventually, he lost motivation to fight, and his will to compete must have been altered when he got a taste of the good life. However, he created a brand and a business that no one has been able to replicate. That alone deserves a lot of respect, and he certainly separated himself from the rest of the pack. He will not be one of those fighters going into retirement needing to work a job or get into podcasting; he's worth more than 300$ million, and that alone is an accomplishment unrivaled by his peers. Sure, he wasted some of his potential as a fighter. But he seized every opportunity as a businessman and personality. His wife is also a very smart woman and helped him a lot with his investments.

Honestly khabib should definitely be on here, he retired to early for us to really tell how good he was. Jon jones could also be on here, imagine how much better he would’ve been without his suspensions.

regarding Khamzat, We should pity him or other fighters that have same situation as him . We must remember that each fighter and division in UFC have different story and situation. Some of them got lucky to get fast track to fight the title because of story and situation of his division. For example Alex peira. He got fast track because he have story with izzy and izzy already wiped out the top in division . Some fighters haven't got any title fight even have 7 to 10 win streak. Top fighters of the division have " diva" attitude that don't want to fight top 15/10.. Even some Champ play diva attitude. Some division keep having rematch between the Champ and his rivalry. Some division got stuck because the champ suddenly got injured. Some contenders only want to fight the title, don't want to fight below him. So what other fighters that have same situation as Khamzat should do? I think Khamzat already fight the title before Alex if he keep in MW division . . For Khamzat Chimaev situation, what should he do? Other fighters don't scare of him? Really? Why he or other fighters that have same situation as him don't get any fight if other fighters don't scare of them? He keeps call out the champ or contender because that what any fighters should do to keep relevant, to keep the hype. UFC not pure sport such as FIFA, or other sport organisation. UFC is sport plus business plus entrainment.. So we as fans of UFC / MMA must understand the situation, support the fighters, don't be too bias.

The UFC is asking for Tony to retire, but it’s BS. They’re not going to pay him a pension and they’re not going to release him because he still has name value. So asking him to retire is just for show, They don’t actually give AF about him.

Khamzat's next fight is going to be for the title. How did he fumble his potential? Plus after seeing Colby dodge every fight that was offered to him unless it was a title fight and get the chance after 2 years of beating Masvidal, I'd say Khamzat took note.

Colby could have been a dominant lightweight champ, but instead he was a severely undersized welterweight who wasted his prime years turning down everything except title fights. Cejudo retired too early, missed much of his prime and then came back too late. Can't really blame Chimaev all too much. That near fatal case of Covid pretty much destroyed his career. Mike Chandler has Grade-A skills but a Grade-F fight I.Q.

I feel like people don't take Khamzat having severe covid complications into enough consideration. There's definitely more going on behind the scenes then we know, he almost retired because of it after all. Either way he's always one huge ko victory away from everyone hoping back into the bandwagon.

The problem with him isn't the covid complications. It's that he can't get a visa into the US due to him being best buds with Ramzan Kadyrov. I'd imagine he's currently banned from Canada, the UK and Australia too so his opportunities to fight are extremely limited.

Feel like Jon Jones should be on here. In the last 10 years he's had 3 decision wins (one a loss by consensus and none of them very impressive), subbed Gane, and ko'ed Gustafsson - not including his 3 overturned fights that 2 good wins in 10 years! He now refuses to fight anyone apart from the ancient Stipe. Yes he had an incredible first part of his career but the last 10 years have taken away from that, not added to it.

Khamzat is good everyone knows that but he hasn't faced top fighters except Burns. Usman was short notice MW even that win was an "Eh" and left a lot of what ifs from the fans. Also people are somehow forgetting Holland was a short notice fight too. Training camps are there for a reason as they help condition you and prepare you on how to best deal with you opponent's style. Truth is Khamzat F'd up, we can forgive the Covid illness but the Nate diaz fight was his fault. Imagine if he had fought Rocky or even Nate diaz. Those saying other fighters are scared look at Islam, people were ducking him but you can only duck someone for so long especially if that person is active n putting in work. KHAMZAT SHOULD JUST STOP THE STUPID CALLOUTS EVERYTIME SOMEONE WHO PUT IN WORK WINS A TITLE AND PUT IN WORK TOO
