Oven mats, wiping the door after each use, and wiping the interior after I cook something steamy has kept my oven pretty clean for the last 2 years. Wiping the door was a habit I got from my mom. I picked up the mats on a whim at the dollar store and holy cow was that a life changing decision. I started wiping the inside after spilling something once and realizing how easy it was to clean the sides while they were still steamy. Outside of spills, I have not cleaned my oven like this in 2 years.

Was taught by my mom to take a 9x13 cake pan and put a towel in it, fill with ammonia until the towel is covered. Turn your oven on the lowest setting, let heat up and then turn off. Let it sit overnight and the next morning wipe it out. You can also put you burner grates, rings, etc in a cover pan of ammonia and let it sit overnight and with a green scrubby go over each piece. Have been doing this since the 1980’s and it works like a champ 😊. Dollar Tree sells bottles of ammonia for $1.25 pretty cheap cleaner. You can also take an ammonia soaked towel and lay it on your stove stop and let it set several hours to clean off the brunt on stuff. 😊

My lazy @$$ just put vinegar and water in an oven safe glass container and heat it in the oven at 180 degrees for an hour or two, use a microfiber rag and wipe it down. I do it once every two weeks so my oven stays looking brand new. (I'm lazy and also very cheap 😆😆😆)

@@CleanThatUp yes, definitely for maintenance. I've done it since it was new when we bought it and it's from another decade 😁 I just can't see myself buying new stuff if my old stuff is in good condition. This is very helpful and very specific which is important! I cleaned my oven earlier in the year and didn't get magical results but it was better. I like how you noted to do it more than one time and also to use a razor blade. I also think I will try the zep. I have done the baking soda clean which worked about the same as any other cleaner. I can see by watching you that technique and timing matter and it's good to see that effort clearly illustrated! The idea of dish pods for the racks and using a storage tub to soak them is also brilliant! My stove is probably from the early 80's! It came with the house and is double wide with a proofing oven on the side and a large space in the middle of the burners. It would be hard to find a good replacement!

Pro tip from a pro cleaner: if going with the heavy chemical method (easy off or other brands), spray, then lay painters plastic or in a pinch garbage bags over the sprayed areas. It speeds up the process and helps keep fumes at bay just a little bit.

I had an old Tappan stove for years....era 1960s? The inside of the oven was lined with liftaway panels. Once a year, I dismantelled the oven and placed the panels and racks outside on the lawn. I sprayed everything with oven cleaner and left it it to soak in the sun for a while. A quick rinse with the garden hose and everything sparkled! Great oven design!!!

Remind people to protect their floor! I use newspaper. Also, I like to keep the door open so the cleaner doesn’t drip - use duct tape to seal off the light switch.

I’m afraid to spray Zep since my oven floor has opening. But now I know the oven door can be taken off. I’ll try that.

Hi Brandon, from a cold and snowy London in England, UK! 🥶 Do you have any tips on how to clean the top part of inside an oven please? In all the videos of “how to clean an oven”, not one of them has ever even mentioned this part. I have mobility problems and find trying to work around the heating element very difficult. Any help hints or tips you may have would be very much appreciated! 😊 Saturday 17th December 2022 - 18:20 GMT

Hello, it’s actually snowing by me here in Wisconsin, US! That’s a great question. In most cases I will scrub and wipe down the best I can given the space. Unfortunately I have any hacks for that part (yet). Let me think on it a little more and see if I come up with anything. Thanks so much for watching, stay warm! 🙂

Great video. Is this for a NON self-cleaning oven? Thanks.

Self cleaning ovens just have a 'clean' setting that burns up all the little bits of food or crumbs inside so they turn into char instead of burning or lighting on fire when you cook. It doesn't remove the grease stains that build up over the years.

Hi there! It was definitely a few hour process, but it was probably a little bit prolonged in full transparency just getting all the video footage

I am a housecleaner for a gal who doesn’t use anything but eco friendly and nothing that smells. She also doesn’t clean so her oven is black. Does the zep smell? How long did it take you to clean it with baking soda? Thanks 🙏

Personally, I use a spatula to remove most of it and trash it. You never want to put it down the drain. Then go on to paper towels for the worst and follow up with your sponge and rags.

what about if oven has a self-cleaning function? would you choose that before using any harsh cleaner? would you try that first and if necessary THEN use the Zep? the downside of the self-cleaning function is that it may get smokey or sort of smelly in house while everything is being burnt off the oven...I believe you need to do it on a day that you can keep a few windows open to air out the house.

I have been using Easy Off Fume Free oven cleaner, and find that it works very well with much less chemical odor. Also, the longer you let it "marinate" on the oven walls, the easier the clean up, 48 hours seems best! If you know the comparison between your Zep and this Easy Off Fume Free, please let me know. Twenty minutes to two hours soak seems too good to be true!

Iam curious. What do you do with the sponges and the cleaning towels you used in that video? You throw them to the trash or clean them?. If so, how do you clean them?

Good question! Lots of rinsing with water to remove the cleaner and grease/grime. The towels wash up really well as long as you don’t let the cleaner/grime dry in them. I usually can get quite a bit of life out the sponges by keeping them rinsed.
