Last night the weather was great, so stopped by the Nissan and Toyota dealers, which are next to each other. This was after the salesmen were gone, so I just looked around and got sticker shock at a Capstone that was over 80 thousand! There were only 3 Frontiers, so I guess they sold all the ones I looked at a while back. There were 7 Tacomas, and they oddly were all base models, six identical white ones and one silver. Very strange choice of inventory. Up close for the first time, as a former body shop guy, my first impression is that I have NEVER seen so many body lines of different types all combined into one vehicle. It's as if Toyota asked all its stylists to submit ideas, then they fed ALL of them into a computer and told it to combine all the ideas into a single body style. SO busy! I then went back to the Frontier, and it's like my eyes could rest as I looked over the simpler lines. To me Nissan has puffed the hood up over the bed rails too much, but ALL the manufacturers are doing that now for some kind of competition apparently. I also don't understand why late model trucks also have so much front overhang. None of my older trucks had that. Is this some kind of mandated crush zone? My conclusion is that Toyota chose very complex lines to go with the complexity under the hood. Just a guess. Nissan keeps it simpler inside and out. Except they should offer the simple six speed manual to complete the formula.

Yeah. Unfortunately that’s how toyota does it. There is no “factory order” with toyota. And to take it a step further, the dealership doesn’t even get to order what they want for inventory. Toyota tells them what they’re getting. They can, to some extent, add or remove accessories like bed steps, running boards, all weather floor mats etc. but they don’t even get to pick the cars.
The gas tank complaint is for real. And I'm super thankful I did not get the power tailgate with mine. However, I will say, mine was optioned almost exactly how I wanted it. Don't feel like I got any extra junk.

And I would agree the body is pretty busy. Toyota has said they were trying for a trophy truck styling. So it has the skinny body and wide fenders. Yea having 6 cylinders is cool. But to be honest I was not a fan of the previous powertrain. I would 1000% percent rather drive this new turbo 4. The power delivery is so much better. I just hope it lasts 300k miles. That’s all I ask😂

These are nowhere near the size of a Tundra.

@counterfeitcowboy1362 I was visiting family in Europe back in February... For the money Tacoma costs here, they get Toyota Hilux, which has better engine options, better towing g capacity, better payload, and diesel option too... And that's European version of Tacoma, maybe I'd pay for Hilux what they want for Tacoma here.

4 banger, overpriced, and assembled in Mexico, three strikes and Tacoma's out!
For all the know it all here, the 24 taco 4 banger turbo engine is made in Alabama , by Americans , yes Mexico too. And for 100 percent of the people who trash Mexico Plant , it is run under the leadership of Japanese Techs. Yes, the pay and workers are Mexican, but have you been to Mexico and see what you can live offer in many parts. So much hate here. Get over people, in a few years we will be speaking Chinese if we don't play are cards right!

All important facts. I also spoke with one of the corporate toyota guys the other day and he was saying the new plant in Mexico is the most state of the art facility Toyota has.

Made in Mexico, expensive, four banger turbo, a no go for me.
i was so pumped i wanted one so bad....till i started researching. Ridiculously overpriced. That alone is a deal breaker....and for a 4 cylinder lol. 100% made is Mexico now. I will not be buying one of these. Period.

They aren't 100%. made in Mexico. Engines are still built in Alabama, where they've been made for years.

Yeah you’re not wrong! I actually have a video where I towed a kubota tractor! It handled the weight really well and had plenty of power. But it got like 11mpg so with a 17 gallon tank or whatever it is that’s 187 miles. Not real far😂
