    I was teaching my husband when we were engaged about the four C’s of buying a diamond. We were at the jewelers and I selected a beautiful diamond and he was impressing the sales person by going over the four C’s but he said actually there are five C’s. Cut, color ,clarity, carat weight, and cardiac arrest when you see the price. We all laughed so hard because it’s true.

    Some great suggestions here to help people deciding how to make the best choice for the budget they have and which compromise(s) will ensure the best result. I am having a pendant made from a diamond which is j-k color and I was planning to have it set in white gold but after watching your video, I think I’m going to have it done in yellow. Should look nice, especially because on a pendant, people don’t get that close. Thanks for the tip. 👏

    I feel like diamonds that are below a color J usually look better in yellow gold. Unless your diamond has fluorescence, it may help offset the yellow color in the diamond. After looking over a diamond, I give suggestions what color would look best for us to set it in.

  • @AmbrosiaJewelry

    Diamonds can be found all around the world, but most found are not gem quality. They are used in tools and machinery. Diamonds used in jewelry are not as abundant and colored diamonds are extremely rare. We work directly with the mines. We know how hard it is to find a top quality diamond. I ask, if diamonds are not valuable, then why are jewelry stores robbed?

    Great advice in picking a diamond, however, to me starting at the letter "I" in color and further down the color scale I would go with medium fluorescence instead of faint as faint does not make much of a difference in what I have seen. My daughter's engagement ring is an "I" and when I first saw it I thought it was an F or G. I asked her fiance what the color was and he said it was an "I" which floored me. I asked if there was fluorescence in the diamond and he said there was medium. That along with the diamond being round with triple Ex grading, the diamond is absolutely gorgeous and you really don't see much blue to even notice in the sunlight like you would with strong fluorescence. Once you get to "M" strong fluorescence would work. H is good for faint and G as well as it will not have enough florescence to make the diamond milky and you get a better price. Just my two cents :)

  • @AmbrosiaJewelry

    @AmbrosiaJewelry

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes, the stronger the fluorescence, the more the diamond will have a milky appearance. We recommend visually inspecting and seeing a diamond in person as they can look different than their report says.

  • @AmbrosiaJewelry

    @AmbrosiaJewelry

    A miners cut diamond is an old way of cutting round diamonds. It is cut with a higher top (crown) and deeper bottom (pavilion). You will find this style of diamond in many old vintage pieces of jewelry. Diamonds today are cut to provide more sparkle and brilliance.

    2:39 In the past jewellers used grade their diamonds as AA, A, B or C or various ambiguous combinations of those three letters. Since GIA wanted to move away from such ambiguity and standardize the grading process, they decided to start with D at the top of the scale.

  • @AmbrosiaJewelry

    @AmbrosiaJewelry

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes GIA made a universal diamond grading system. They wanted to create a new letter for the color grade to start fresh. They could have used any letter, but instead made the decision to start with D for a colorless diamond grade. It has never been said exactly why they chose that letter.

    Hi! What do you think of a K color but I1? In person it looked near colorless in different lightings and you can see feathery inclusions on the back with a magnifier, but its hidden when placed in the setting. It is a 2.25 round diamond with brilliant cut. It is also GIA certified and just wondering if it is good if I am willing to sacrifice for size and can't see the inclusions/color diff?

  • @AmbrosiaJewelry

    @AmbrosiaJewelry

    3 жыл бұрын

    I always say if you see it in person and love it, than the certification doesn't matter. Unless you are purchasing the diamond more as an investment, than a higher quality would be best. The biggest thing you want to look at is the cut grade as this is what makes the diamond sparkle. The more sparkle a diamond has, the better it appears. A round diamond also helps "hide" more of the inclusions compared to other diamond shapes. The last thing that helps is your diamond is GIA certified. GIA has stricter guidelines to certifying a diamond. In other words, GIA says your diamond is a K, while another certification company may say your diamond is J.

    hmm... other videos say that step cuts (e.g. emerald cuts actually hide color better bc less facets (therefore less reflection of the yellow hue) in comparison to brilliant cuts (e.g. round, radiant)

  • @AmbrosiaJewelry

    @AmbrosiaJewelry

    2 жыл бұрын

    With my years of experience and working with diamonds, step cuts will show more color because of less sparkle and light reflection. When we grade diamonds, we turn the diamonds upside down and look through the pavillion (bottom part of stone). This allows you to see the true diamond color without all of the distracting splashes of color from the sparkle. Sorry to hear there are misleading videos out there!

    We personally like GIA certifications and then EGL certs. We have worked with some certifications which are are a little more lenient on their grading qualities. For example a diamond may be graded by one cert as a G color which increases the price of the diamond because it is in the near colorless range. While GIA may grade the same diamond as I color. I always say, if you love how the diamond looks, then what the certification says may not matter to you!

    Absolutely not! It is more of a personal preference. • @georgiamclennan

    @georgiamclennan

    2 жыл бұрын

    If you’re looking for a “good” or “perfect” diamond, then any kind of stone with fluorescence is considered poorer quality than a stone without fluorescence. Luxury brand jewellers (like Tiffany & Co.) ONLY use diamonds that are colourless or near-colourless (D, E, F, G, H & I) with very few inclusions (FL, IF, VVS1, VVS2, VS1 & VS2), and that have little or no fluorescence. However, if you are just wanting a diamond that looks good in person, there’s nothing wrong with buying a slightly lesser quality diamond like a K colour with fluorescence. The key to getting away with a slightly coloured diamond and fluorescence is to make sure there are very few inclusions in it.

    I’m looking for a diamond that resembles a champagne without the price tag of that “champagne” label. (I know even though it’s cheaper than a colorless diamond on its own, they’re having a bit of a moment right now and jewelers will jack up the price. 🙈) Yellow gold metal with colorless moissanite as accent stones. The center stone will be Marquise. I think this will make the center stone pop! Do you recommend a diamond between S-Z? Or should I go to fancy colored diamonds? Also, how do you recommend I search and find a retailer who is willing to sell these colored diamonds? So hard to find!

    Currently looking at a 1.07 carat, internally flawless, ideal cut, j color diamond for a pave petite twist band graded by IGI. Going with a bigger size carat since the gf’s finger is a size 8. Based on a few things you said in your video, do you think the j color is going to be visible with the other small diamonds in the pave setting?

  • @AmbrosiaJewelry

    @AmbrosiaJewelry

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Justin, the ideal cut will help bring more sparkle to the diamond which should help brighten it. The IGI grading will be more lenient than GIA so it may appear to have more color compared to a GIA color J. You also want to make sure the side diamonds match the color of the main diamond. If the smaller diamonds are several grade brighter in color, it will make your main diamond appear more yellow than what it is. If you want a second opinion, we work with client all across the country to hand select a diamond with a better quality or value.

    It is not accurate to say all jewelers are liars. I know many jewelers who have a good heart and also educate their clients about gold, gems and diamonds. Many consumers have not taken the educational classes we have, so we try to educate them in only a few minutes, which has taken us years to learn. Based on one experience, a person should not limit their thinking by claiming one restaurant chain's food is horrible at every location, all mechanics take advantage of you, or all money managers are crooks. Yes, it is sad to have one bad apple ruin it for everyone else, but I hope you take the opportunity to work with a jeweler who has a good reputation with their clients.
