5 Presentation Hacks to FEEL & LOOK more Confident, & have Greater Impact | Shadé Zahrai
Tell me if this has ever happened to you…
You’re on stage, or about to deliver an important virtual presentation, and suddenly you feel the "butterflies" kick in… that queasy feeling in your stomach takes over, your palms get sweaty, your throat dies up and your mind goes blank…
Sound familiar?
Presentation nerves can sabotage even the most credible and competent individual, turning them into a blubbery buffoon.
That’s exactly why understanding some simple principles about how to not only FEEL more confident, but actually CONVEY it, can make all the difference!
In this episode, I share with you 5 of my top presentation hacks to help you present yourself (and your message) in the MOST impactful way!
NOTE: You might have noticed that I didn’t refer to the ‘Power Pose’, and for good reason. Amy Cuddy’s ‘Power Pose’, which was popularized in her viral 2012 TED Talk, was found be problematic years later when her and her team’s research couldn’t be fully validated.
The initial research (Carver, Cuddy & Yap, 2010) claimed that there were hormonal changes when someone stood in the Wonder Woman-esque ‘power pose’ (increase in testosterone and a decrease in cortisol after posing). However subsequent research failed to replicate the same results in terms of the hormonal changes. BUT, they have consistently found extensive evidence for feeling a greater sense of power - now called ‘postural feedback’.
A 2018 meta-analysis published in Psychological Science Journal which examined 55 studies does demonstrate a strong link between expansive postures and feelings of power (Cuddy, 2018). So ‘postural feedback’ is absolutely valid, and a proven way to feel more confident and powerful.

1. Powerful posture 2. Coffee cup eye contact 3. Belly breathing 4. Positive self Talk
I have anxiety of everything else, except public speaking. Yeah, strange I know! This is because when I was a kid, I used to learn new lessons by imagining an audience, unpacking ideas, and learning as I speak aloud. I still do that, by videotaping my thoughts on an article etc. So, when I actually present, and I am a teacher, I don't really feel any nerves.
I love her posts. She is clear, concise and to the point.
6) We become nervous when we are to address strangers. Just go around into the audience BEFORE the meeting starts, introduce yourself and talk to as many people as possible, get to know them and "connect" with them. That way, you already "know" so many people in the audience even before the meeting starts and they are not strangers anymore. And you won't feel nervous or anxious anymore to give that awesome presentation to the people you already know!

Hi Shade, Those are really wonderful and life changing tips. Often in my class (although I am a technical teacher in physics and mathematics), I deliver those tips. Definitely, the body language is important and all those golden tips that you have told. I would also request you to make a video on "How to appear in front of the camera?" This could be very relevant to the current scenario of online jobs, online interviews and everything including online teaching. You are doing a great job by helping the society to live better. I personally recommended your video on "Perfectionism" to my professors.
These are great tips . Thanks Shade for sharing . I love your videos 🤗🥰💐

Thanks a million 🎉🎉👍👍 Long awaited topic 😃 Can u pls make a short clip on explaining more on controlling breath while speaking. It happens like trying to speak a lot of things in a single breath due to nervous and then the change in voice can be felt by another person. How can this be overcome?

Very good tips
Very helpful. 😊
Great tips. Even people that are comfortable speaking on stage have days when they're more nervous. I've found that the better prepared I am, the less nervous I am. And with comedy, I found the optimal amount of beer to drink before I perform. Too little and I'm nervous. Too much and I screw up my jokes. 😀

Those old days state a great speaker had to teach their party men without explaining lot. Simple and powerful trick. He just explained that think of all of your audience as fools and you are the only genius for the time you present which will make your fear out until finish presentation 😄. It worked for many

Thanks Shadé, I wont listen too advice about "Picture your audience in their underwear" anymore (I never understood that advice) especially when you talk about feed-back loops I could get trapped in that mindset😱😅

How many do I have wait for the reply from the company? After how many days do I have to send the mail to them ?what should be the content I have to include in 5he follow up?
