If you're not used to it, it can be difficult to understand sometimes. For some reason pretty much all of the mix up hard and soft consonants. "bunga" instead of "bunka" for example. The tenses are off sometimes, too.

KingSultanTV yes, you add or subtract anything, okonomiyaki translates to “as you like it” so go play around with toppings and fillings. Check out Simon and Martina’s video on okonomiyaki, they go over the classic version and a vegetarian version. If you have access to an asian market I highly recommend trying Cooking with Dog’s recipe (minus the pork).

@BabyBoyBelcher It's difficult to describe any brown sauce because they are made with so many fruits, veg, spices, etc. but if you know what Worcestershire sauce tastes like, you're close. But okonomi sauce is way sweeter. I'm certain if you go to a Japanese resto, you could get a taste even if you don't order okonomiyaki.

My recommendation for a dessert to have in Japan is “shiratama zenzai” parfait! ✨ “zenzai” itself is a kind of Japanese traditional sweet dish made from sweetened adzuki bean, and when it’s topped with white, chewy “shiratama dango” (small, white dumpling balls made from refined rice flour) then it’s called as “shiratama zenzai”. But that’s not even the final form just yet! 😆 When you have the shiratama zenzai parfait, you’ll get a small portion of shiratama zenzai topped with matcha ice cream, kinako (roasted soybean flour), and a decent pour of brown sugar syrup! Mm-hm! 😋 I’m not even “someone with a sweet tooth”, but I can recommend shiratama zenzai parfait to you! 👌🏼

It should be mentioned that the okonomiyaki made in here is hiroshima style. There is also Kansai style where the ingredients are mixed into the batter instead of layered.
