The very first thing you should do with a wet phone is remove the battery (if you're fortunate enough to have a phone from a manufacturer that allows this... Man, sometimes I really miss the old phones!) or to TURN IT OFF IMMEDIATELY. Do not, under any circumstances, plug it into a charger or to a USB port for data recovery. If you have vital data on that phone that you do not have backed up (always make routine backups!) your best bet is to reach out ASAP to a professional data recovery service or reputable cell phone repair shop. One alternative I've heard of, but I do not have any experience with, is to immediately take the turned-off wet phone and submerge it in isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) with the highest percentage listed on the label you can buy. Preferably 90% or higher, and do NOT use colored or scented alcohol, and only for a few seconds. In this case, the theory is that you are using fast-drying rubbing alcohol to replace the water inside, and the isopropyl will evaporate quickly. (Isopropyl alcohol is often what techs use to clean circuit boards for repair.) I CANNOT FULLY VOUCH FOR THIS METHOD, SO ATTEMPT AT YOUR OWN RISK. You can TRY sealing it in a bag with silica gel packets (the ubiquitous "DO NOT EAT" packets found in shoe boxes, boxes electronic components come in, etc) but that method does take some time. (Fun Fact: Those packets are also reusable, they require gentle oven-baking to "recharge," instructions available online.) Don't bother putting it in rice. Keep in mind, 99% of the time the damage is already done in the first few seconds of liquid contact due to direct electrical shorts. If phones work after the "rice treatment," they most likely would have survived drying naturally over the course of several days. Also, keep in mind, damage can still be present even if phone operates normally after drying, with the potential of failure in the future as corrosion spreads. Source: Louis Rossmann (YT channel of same name) and Jessa Jones (YT channel iPad Rehab), plus my own experience with electronic and electrical devices. And one cell phone, that a friend dropped between his legs onto his fresh poo while sitting on the toilet. (Screen and buttons were dead, but phone turned on, ran dangerously hot, and I was able to recover most of the data before the phone died.)
