First Aid Hacks That Should Be Illegal

COME SEE ME ON TOUR:
Troom Troom is one of the cringiest KZread channels I’ve ever seen, and their medical advice/first aid hacks are wildly inaccurate. Today we talk about sneezing, headaches, bruises, snake bites, cauterizing wounds, motion sickness, tampons, pads, hiccups, choking, smelly feet, water in your ears, heartburn, and a ton of other stuff. I never thought I’d see a channel with more weird claims than Five Minute Crafts or Bright Side, but here we are. Which hacks should I react to next?
I LOVE reading your comments and take your suggestions seriously. If there’s a subject you want me to discuss or something you’d like for me to react to, leave a comment down below. Many of my videos have been born out of suggestions directly from you, so don’t hold back!

    2:13 Yes! I had to keep replaying because I was laughing so hard. The facial expressions say it all. TroomTroom presents snake bite as a problem. Dr. Mike looks amused in anticipation of what loony cure they're about to suggest. TT says "cauterize.' Dr. Mike's face says, there's no way they just said or meant "cauterize." TT: "Luckily I have matches..." Dr. Mike's expression becomes the definition of "horrified" as he realizes OMG they DID mean cauterize!!! 😮😅😂😂😂 💀 ☠️

    7:51 not only do I often get shower water in my ear (far more than pool water?), I cnanot perform the valsalva maneuver (pinching the nose and blowing) because my ear canals are scarred badly from chronis ear infections as a child, so the air just escapes through the sinus ducts in the corners of my eyes. The scarring also causes the stuck water (and the ear wax in there as well) to be stuck in there quite badly, ruining my hearing in that ear for like a week.

    with the "Cold soda" segment, I actually got a realization car sickness and motion sickness are polar opposites while car sickness is usually caused by feeling motion in your semicircular ear canals or whatever they're called, but your eyes not receiving motion, motion sickness is usually caused by NOT feeling motion in your ear while your eyes do pick up on motion also hiccups can be cured by pickle juice and yes i tried it and it worked

    As someone who is CPR and First-Aid certified, I know that holding and shaking a choking child will not help unblock his or her airways. It just might cause the object to become more lodged in the throat instead. Plus, it might actually cause brain trauma from the brain being forced to rattle in the child's skull. This is why you don't shake or bounce young infants, and why you shouldn't really try this with anyone. Great job, Troom Troom. Edit: To everyone in the comments below who are saying that not shaking children is common sense, I know. Unfortunately, common sense isn't really common anymore and I've seen caretakers unintentionally be very rough with their small infants and children, like throwing them up in the air, etc. when I babysit. And most of them aren't even a year old OR if they are older, their children are pretty small-framed for their ages. So before becoming a parent, PLEASE do your research on basic knowledge like this so you know how to assist your children if they need any urgent medical aid in a life-threatening situation. I beg you. It's heartbreaking to see (as a teenager), loving parents who don't know how to take care of their little ones in a proper manner. You just might end up saving his/her life one day.

    When I lived in Asia, there was an old Chinese superstition going around was that when you got shingles/chickenpox, you are supposed to 'burn the snake's head' with hot coins, in order to stop its progression! Literally put burning hot coins on your (already sore) skin to 'burn and chase out the snake' that is supposedly causing this malady and 'stop it advancing.' Many educated medical practitioners had large signs in their clinics warning patients to never do this, esp parents of sick children, because they would actually see burnt children coming into their clinics with children with burn marks. In any other part of the world, this would be seen as child abuse.

    Cabbage leaf has loads of vitamin C which helps to fight common cold and sleepiness/fatigue, and strangely enough it absorbs a lot through the skin too. I found that it works less effective than eating raw leaves, although eating raw leaves is torture. It's more effective than eating a coleslaw, vitamins in mixed ingredients do not get absorbed nearly as well. It's infinitely more effective than vitamin pills, those don't seem to work at all (no reduction in fatigue, and the next day i even got scurvy).

In the ice pad setting, it's being filled with liquid water, then frozen, so presumably they're only going to fill it with the amount of water that it can hold without leaking, especially if using a syringe to fill it, since syringes over 5mls in size tend to be super expensive & a maxipad will easily hold 5mls of liquid. 5mls is not much of an ice pack, pretty useless really, but they'd have to do really weird stuff to end up with it leaking all over their face!

    To suppress vomiting, get to quiet place, sit down on a bed and press the forehead on a cold table. Chilling the arm won't do it because the desire to vomit comes from the head. I don't think you should stand up after sitting on your leg. You could, it's not a big deal. But you would walk lame with one stiff leg, and can't carry delicate objects. There was working advice for cramps, where you need to flex the foot in the opposing direction using its muscles, but I forgot the particulars.

    Are you certain that your daughter isn't faking hiccups to get sugar? I've known several kids that were absolute geniuses when it comes to stuff like that, I could 100% see some kids realizing they get sugar each time they hiccup, and start hiccuping to get more 😂

  • @MartiniMouse
    @MartiniMouse2 жыл бұрын

    The actual science behind stopping hiccups: when people say “hold your breath” they’re not necessarily wrong, just being too vague. Take in the deepest possible breath, and then tense your core. Since hiccups are the involuntary contractions of your diaphragm, and breathing in contracts it, you will briefly make it physically impossible for it to compress further. Then, after a bit, slowly let your breath out. Edit: drinking water also helps because it also helps you regulate your breathing. The same tactic is good for someone who’s crying to calm them down

  • @xen0bia

    As someone who doesn't really have sugar on hand, that's the trick I always use and I always assumed it worked exactly for the reason you explained. I push my filled lungs down on the abdomen and that seems to compress the diaphragm completely, which in turns help it to relax.

  • @MrPaulMorris

    @MrPaulMorris

    I actually use exactly the opposite approach; exhale as much as possible (far more than in normal breathing) and hold... It usually works for me first time, if not simply repeat. As above, I guess it is about conscious diaphragm control.

    If I’m carsick on a long roadtrip you know what works just fine? Dramamine! Or Benadryl if it’s not available (one time I didn’t pack enough for the home trip, but the hotel had Benadryl, I was a little sleepy but it helped the nausea. I don’t tend to get motion sick when I’m the driver, and I wasn’t, so the drowsiness wasn’t a big concern.)

    What bothers me is the second motion sickness hack, not because they want you to bite a match or anything but because the sick girl suddenly became COMPLETELY FINE within a moment. As someone who gets motion sickness easily I can testify that that doesn’t happen. Nausea doesn’t vanish like that the moment you stick a match between your teeth.
