Just found your channel. The only thing that is frustrating about watching your videos is the fact that I am going to have to wait another 6 months to apply a lot of what I've learned. Been hunting 26 years and I've learned quite a bit from your advice. Keep it up.

I appreciate your focus on safety. I "run and gun" with a light hangon and either sticks or strap steps. I use a lineman's lanyard but that is not enough for full fall protection. I cannot use a lifeline like you showed easily, but I do use my tether the whole way up while climbing. It only adds minutes to your climb. Simply attach the tether and move it ahead of you. It is super easy to do this with a climber. Simply slide the tether up, climb a bit, and repeat.

Lifelines are the one thing every hunter should use in a treestand. One tip: when you're going down the tree don't leave your hand on the loop. If you fall and your hand is on it, it will not function, you'll just pull it right down the rope. It's a bit of a pain but the process is. Pull the loop to your chest height, take your hand off the loop and put it back on the ladder, go down a step, repeat.

Just bought some land 122 acres. On a section of hard woods I found a really nice well made metal tree stand left behind or I hope it was. Anyways I just painted my trees purple so the tree stand is mine now. The stand looks good just needs new straps. I want to move it because the seat is way stupid to get too, not 90 degrees like you said. I was looking for info on this and you nailed it. I knew this seat was just looking way to dangerous to climb into.

Now that I know about where they will stop and mingle around, this fall stands will be more on there path than there destination. Thank you.

I like to pick an area, walk in, find fresh sign then sit down. That way the buck has no chance of smelling that you have been in the area until your actually there. I also play the wind and never sit in the same place, so the bucks odds of running into me increase because he can't pattern me. I believe I see deer, when most folks are online asking, "will the deer move today?" Because #1, I'm out there in the elements and #2, I'm usually in a spot where no one has been in 2-3 years at a club. Simply because there is no trail or a fancy shooting house. Or you have to climb up a steep hill or a deep creek.

I like doing that on public land some times if it's a new spot and I haven't scouted...on the small private lands that a lot of people hunt it would blow out a parcel. Stands have to be already set in place...awesome walking a into a setup that hasn't been disturbed in several months...and is already hung and prepared! Definitely a place for hunting fresh sign on public land!

I hear you, I find myself doing brand new areas every night of October, no pre scouting, simply sitting on the ground with my bow, where it seems like there would be action. I’ve been pretty successful with this method, providing it’s a hard walk where you know no one has been disturbing the area.

I’m using a 17ft ladder stand, but want to take the next step with a portable configuration like you are showing...my guy tells me that even a little more than 20ft would be better? Also, can you share the brand & model of the stand & ladder configuration that you use? Thank you so much!! Your my fav 🔥

I'm questioning the sharp unfinished edge of the Male joint protruding at the top of the laddder. Murphy's Law ... Thank you GK! I love elevated blinds. 2 things tho...you never want to lift yourself out of cover and they need to pass the 100 yard test. The 100 yard test just refers to if you can see that blind from 100 yards or more, it needs to be hidden. None of mine are lifted because I like to hide them as best as possible AND I have hills to hide them into...and access from behind, so not the same as everyone.

A really great informative video, I not only agree with all your placement for stands, but I really appreciate how you stressed the importance of safety. I suffer to this day because of a fall from removing an old deer stand that I use to use back in 1981. I fell 21' backwards, & if it were not for my brother, & a friend being there when it all happened, I probably would not be typing this message to you now. I just wished that I had a place to hunt again I live in NW Indiana, & unless you are willing to spend a lot of money to lease a peace of property you don't have a chance to hunt hardly. So if you have a audience that has a place to hunt, you may want to stress the importance of taking care of the land owners that still allow people to hunt. Did I hear you right that you have clients that hunt your property, & if so what does it cost? GOD BLESS & again a Great video.

I do not have clients hunt with me...I get many offers to hunt on client lands tho, but I only hunt my own setups on small private parcels or on public land. I hope you can find something this season to hunt and don't forget about that public land too!

@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 Thanks for getting back with me Jeff, & you are absolutely right about public land availability. I plan on taking full advantage of it this archery season. The hard part of hunting there is once you have harvested a deer there you have a heck of a long way to drag the animal out of the woods. The state will not allow you to use any motorized vehicles to go into the area's to retrieve you animal, & I totally understand their reason's. I'm 68 yrs. young butI found out a long time ago, if there is a will then there is a way, Lol. But anyhow keep making the video's & giving the great help's in how to be a wise hunter in the field. @@paulharwood1281 There are def ways to get the deer out of public land locations. If there's snow a sled works nice or they sell those deer dolly looking things I can't remember the name of them, but they sure look like they would make that dreaded long deer drag much easier. Then you got those guys who cut all the meat off the animal right at the kill location, pack it in plastic bags and carry it all out in a backpack.

Now I mostly hurt elk and I don’t see much use for them but when I hunt whitetails i just glass and stalk similar to how I hunt mule deer. Tree stands spook me these days. Jeff, could you do a video for guys that are hunting white tails off the ground with a bow? Maybe some tips and pointers would be appreciated as lots of guys are not in a tree during archery. Thanks pal!

I have qhite a few! In particular how to hide blinds, rut blind strategies, blind locations strategies, blind access with screening strategies too... If you search finding deer blinds, or deer blind access, screening deer blinds, blind locations deer strategies, rut deer blind strategies...you will find several. Most are at the top of the search. A cool thing too...almost any whitetail strategy you can use Google or KZread and my content comes up at the top 🙂

Thanks Jeff, sorry I didn’t phrase my question properly. Your right you have a lot of content on the subject. Your very knowledgeable and I would love to hear your thoughts on bow hunting whitetails on the ground, without a blind, when using a bow, maybe more of a run and gun type video, then a set up ahead of time hunt? The subject always interests me, as it’s what a lot of bowhunters did before technology gave us great stands, trail cams etc. Thanks Jeff!

Jackson Leggett yep. I’ve kill many simply sitting on my knees with my bow on the ground next to me. Was trying to pick Jeff’s mind abit, if he was doing more of a run and gun set up, how would he do it? I would love to hear him discuss that.

How can I avoid deer staying in my food plot for too long instead of doing a pass thru? I hunt on property I don't own so can't make a lot of adjustments to where the location of the food plot is. It's only 3/4 of an acre food plot in NW Illinois but still had problems with them staying in it for too long last season.

I personally am strict enough that if deer are going to be in the plot when I enter it exit...I don't hunt it. Ever. Well, except with a gun from a distance. Or screen the plot more...cut the size of it, etc. It just isn't worth it to have a plot and spook deer.

That k you Grizzly! I've checked them out... definitely not for me. Too much movement required for the shot, not really a mature buck setup to me. Can't say never...but probably never use one. Can't see that it is potentially better than my current system in any way... I know a lot of hunters like them, but just can't see in any way it is better...
