I've stopped deer on a dead run with a "hey" and also by whistling loud. I've also stopped deer by running toward them. Sometimes doing something that they don't expect will pique their curiosity. The last deer that I harvested spooked, but a couple of grunts brought him back in. It wasn't a trophy by any means, but he put venison in the freezer.

Nothing gets me juiced up for deer season like some mountain deer videos.

I popped in by accident, but I was so hooked on what he was saying! So much so that I left for my blind later than I wanted because I was so interested to hear what was next. But I will say, what he said about the Doe coming in all pissy…. That happened to me when I was practicing my calls for the first time, and I didn’t realize it was my call that got her all frazzled. Thanks so much for making this video! You’ve made me a better bow Hunter!

I started around that time grabbed a rifle and scope and bought corn sat in old stand father in law had my first one was a yearling doe as I couldn’t tell cause stand higher off ground year after that dropped a young 5 pointer and last year I called with rattling a aggressive old 4 point he been in fights and had scars to prove it down here u hunt u lucky to get a 6-8 as a trophy but I hunt for meat.

I'm very fortunate, had a Cherokee man teach me how to bring any deer to me when I a young fellow. They are going to come find me no matter what. My buddies tell folks I don't need a bow, just a baseball bat. I get accused of bring deer back to my state in refrigerated 🚛 from orher states. Priceless 🏆

I live and hunt in Central Florida. I don't think the deer here like calling at all but will continue to try it out

Nothing better than still hunting. Took me a long time to learn to be patient enough to have success.

I damn near got run over by a big doe first time I used a fawn can call. Sitting on my butt against a big oak in mountains. She skidded to a stop literally 6 feet from my legs and looked around. I sat still til she gave up and left. Scared the crap out of me. But was amazed that the can call actually worked.

Wow the first three minutes describes and encounter I had this year perfectly. Buck had my wind blowing right at him and I was below him. About 15 yards diagonally over my left shoulder. He blew and scampered about 20 yards. As soon as he broke visual sight with me I grunted once and moved up the hill a bit and he did a complete 180 and was working his way to find a buck. It was crazy.

I live in northern MIchigsn and I've hunted ever sense I can remember . It's a family tradition at our camp . I bow hunt state land but rifle hunt private. I started using a grunt tube 6vyrs ago. It took me a couple yrs to find a grunt tube that actually worked. Also a bleat can . It took me a few yrs to figure out what to do but I tell you what, once I cracked the code I've called in a buck each n every yr with my bow. Its so exciting and ya get hooked on calling . Totally hooked on calling . It's a Rush !

I grew up in Westminster Ma, looks like my high school was about 5 minutes away. Next year have to check it out. My old boss shot a deer in Hubbardston Ma weighed 248.

Gosh wish I watched this before I took a long shot at a buck during the Massachusetts Archery season. I shoulda snort wheezed to get him to come closer

Memba the first time I got a buck to respond. I was bout done, walking out a tow road having a dart after my all day sit, when bout 40ft ahead a massive bodied boy comes trapsing thru the open oaks, and I swear he saw or least heard me as I walked (it was last day so I was making no effort to be quite or slow in my frustration) and I was sure he smelt me as I Def was upwind at that area. Anyways, he steps across the road, I watch as he at that point clearly looked over at me and kept Goin. Figured I'd have a play, and made a quick mouth bleat. He took off like a rocket away from me, and I heard him crash a thicket. I stood still but after about 20 seconds I could hear a faint crunch of the leaves as he clearly was attempting to skirt around and get a better look. I ducked behind a massive Boulder, like massive,and picked the side it sound he was approaching from. As I set up it sounded as if he'd switched sides and sprinted in so I rushed to spin about b4 he could see me. I about faced, froze, a waited. The turd had either switched again, or I misinterpreted the sound and he was on the first side I picked, about 2 arms lengths away from me. Needles to say I was in awe. He stood and stared as I was froze for maybe 5 seconds, before bolting back across the road and got to cover b4 I could get a good shot so needless to say I didn't get him. It was last 30mins so I made a feeble attempt but I feel he friggin knew what time/day it was and this was his way of showboating he made it another season.....still and awesome experience.

HAD THE RADISH!!! A saying my family uses😂. My cat was named Radish because the old one had the Radish!

I still hunt a lot. I will mix it up, I will grunt softly as I'm moving or use the bleat. I shot a 6X6 a few years back using the can call. Granted I was by a huge scrape which probably helped. And I've actually had a little forked Horn Buck follow me down a draw one year while I was grunting.. I live in North Idaho and spend a lot of time in the brush when hunting. I figure even if they don't come into the call and they move away I may hear them.its probably my most favorite way to hunt.

I learned when I was young bass fishing. It’s about trying to get the animals natural reaction if you can make your worm look injured! Meals aren’t free in the wild

My biggest issue in the past, has been when the older bucks suddenly go nocturnal, or they begin bedding down in inaccessible swamps & in floating bogs. 😔 Like within the intelligence of a dog, it doesn’t take them long to learn how to outsmart a human at the first hint of hunting pressure, reading & recognizing your body language along the way. They know the difference, if your all fluffy with insulation & a pack planing to stay, vs, your traveling light & just passing through.

I was walking a wash in Arizona heading back in from hunt at noon. I decided to practice grunt calls while walking since I was done in the area. I ran into a huge Mule deer. Caught me off guard. I couldn't knock my arrow before he caught on. 😂. But grunt calls work. I also got my brother his first deer grunting while stalking a firebreak. We would light grunt wait then walk about 150 yard repeat. Finally, a young buck stepped out about 50 yard away into break giving him a shot. Can't say for sure it was the calling or just timing but seemed to be responding. I think it's important to call but not too often. Have to make the deer look for the source and get them moving.

i have been calling deer for over 48 years. along with rattling and have had many close encounters. using the same call that i have had for many years. calling can bring in deer all year round..

I hunt with 2 different grunt tubes, switching them up from time to time, so they don't pattern one call.

I like the fact they are use to the smell of humans to my advantage. I will go sit by a nice smoky fire. After the morning fire throw some water in the fire and get really close. Deer are use to the smell of smoke is my opinion. Again in my opinion Smoke smell permeates material not just cover up smells. Great advice you gave. Tried petting a deer once on a trail, I hid behind a tree as she was walking down. As soon as she walk by the tree I touched her butt. She almost took my freaking head off with those back hoofs.

I tried grunting rattling and doe in a can at my blind after seeing several deer for days until I tried grunting and rattling and a doe in a can I didn't see anything and I grunted soft deep and not very often and it was like no deer were around next day I just sat quietly in my blind and tons of deer came out I had does 7 yards from my blind one even sat down then a small rack 8 point came 12 yards away and I took him he was a big deer 4 5 years old weight around 150 pounds after field dressed Then 2 days later a 8 point with big wide antlers stepped in same place I got him but he was alot smaller body I think he was no more than 3 years old weighed under 150 pounds but much nicer rack but when I tried to call deer in I do the opposite and don't see any deer so try it you may do it but I just don't have any luck using them and I have watched videos and shows on how to call deer and I can make same sounds and same cadence but just can't talk to deer until I'm dragging them to my truck lol good luck everyone and keep hunting

We just use our own voices , most any call will work but a change in pitch while grunting isn’t usually possible. So we can ….

best thing i ever did was get goats and study how they feed and call. Deer and goats are very close in behavior patters.

@@stdavis22 I shot a buck on Thanksgiving Day and when I cut the legs off my doe goats came over and hit on the leg. In 3 days they were in heat looking for a Buck. lol

I called a buck out if the woods just hunting myself. He tasted good

How about walking with a bow straight at a buck putting the bow up like antlers?

I was just going through most of this in my head if im calling to much or too less. I feel like deer here in Mi arent as vocal maybe the hunting pressure amd swamps since everything echos in the swamp. I have heard little ones grunting but nothing over a year and a half. I hit the doe bleat right at dawn and had a rock of socks wrapped with duct tape almost instantly i heard something moving not fast but headed in the opposite direction wasnt interested at all tried using the bleat again but to no prevail the deer left the area the way it was bedded alone and out in the thick swamp im guessing it was a buck. When is the best time to use a estrous bleat? When is the best time to just remain silent and hope for the best i swear i always get in my head while im the stand

Just a small grunt and there going ti stop in there tracks to see were he is at that's when it's game over he is on the ground then. call for help to get him loaded and out of there if ur a lady ......

Yeah but that's a young buck completely different than mature older deer. Grunts don't fool old bucks.

I don't know what's so dangerous about having a deer close to you?.. Deer must be a lot more aggressive where he's hunting.

Those tactics are a limited nitch to those geographic areas. Mountain buck are completely different from other buck. Plus it's not the only way to hunt those animals. I'd bet long-range shooting and deer drives would be equally successful. I usually enjoy watching other tactics, but all of these hunting shows are becoming obnoxious. The overwhelming majority only shows the successes. A wise man once told me, "A bad day of hunting is better than a good day at work or school." Enjoy the experience of the outdoors, everything else is BS......

@camdengrant2620 Deer with less hunting pressure act differently. Mountain deer are far more inquisitive than subrubian deer. That live amongst people 24/7! The more one educates a whitetail deer, the harder they are to hunt.
