Whenever I use pro L 2 ... There is heavy delay in the signal... How did you manage that???
This is the easily the most honest breakdown I’ve seen. Many “famous” engineers keep these techniques hidden and rather sell the public snake oil and product placement. Thank you.
I love the concept of (1) removing bad tones followed by (2) replacing them with better coloring/saturation. So simple and makes it way easier to gain stage! Ty! 🙏
Love the chain and how you explain why you do what you do. Enjoyed this video.
Maaaaannn bro this is one of the best videos I've seen on vocal processing 👊🏽👍🏽👌🏽
Dude, awesome tutorial, thank you! I had never thought of putting a limiter before compression and EQ. Cool idea!

I put second instance of Waves X-Noise after the Limiter and get a nice pristine sound with Weiss DS1-MK3 before the Limiter.
Hey David, This was one of my favorite videos... so far... Thanks a lot for your contribution and sharing your knowledge. Much appreciated ✌️🤘
Always great stuff. I'm glad you share so much and I came across you! Thanks a ton! Looking forward to learning more from you!
We all have our ways.. Preferences.... But respect for you to share your experiences, and workflows..... I tip my hat to you. Passion....... Its a beautiful thing.
Hands down one of the best channels I came across during lockdown ❤️
Amazing tips and tricks! Looking foward for more videos like that. Thank you for sharing💪
Lovely knowledge by a real professional. This is what I was looking for!
wow prob the most valuable vocal production vid today, awesome one david, the most important lessons for voice driven music
Nice work - great to see you do what you love!
Thanks for this video. I'm actually about to get into recording vocals soon. Added to my Vocal Mixing Best Videos playlist!🙏
Thanks for that! The little natural delays and reverbs so that they are basically invisible, you don't really hear them in the mix, it's something often not talked about as much but extremely vital to making your mixed polished IMO! AND ONE OF MY STICKING POINTS! So thank you! And keep em coming please! Invisible reverbs and delays to make your vocals and instruments sit naturally in the mix!
This video was eye opening. Absolutely love the approach and simplicity with the rap vocal. Amazing work bro. 💯
I LOVE YOU! After all these years, me trying to mix my own vocals, sometimes, failing and giving it up, asking myself if it is "ok" to add a limiter on the main vox, but also another compressor on the vox bus, to keep the vocals in control... and thinking that it might be to weird... man... I WILL TRUST MYSELF MORE OFTEN, starting today! THANK YOU SO MUCH! This video will be my reference for my mixes!
Very great ideas & skills used in this chain. Youve reminded me why I need to start using delays again like I used to(as invisible ambiance...that concept resonates w/ my thought process).
Really awesome video David! Thank you super duper much! It's so great to be MIXBUSTV member :)

Those 550A and 550B API EQ's are amazing. I run my vocals through em just to hear the op amps kick in and color the signal. They're really amazing for tone sculpting. And if I do make adjustments they're small.
Thank you for this video. Great stuff 👏 👍
🤩👍 Really great share David ! It reminds me some tricks , my memory is waking up ! 20 years ago now ...waow .. I m happy : in 3 months i understand speaken english and there i quite understand 50% what you said in a shot ! So it s very good for me ! Thank you ! Your way of mixing seems really logic . It s a lot of work , and i see years of expériences, it s clear. The Parallel tracks in mixing is in fact what i didn't know 20 years ago ( i used to work with 16 tracks it wasn 't possible anyway) but today. It is THE TRICK !!!🤘 I understand why it is so powerfull ! Great ! A giant's foot for good mix ! Hoo Hoooo !! 🥳
You are freaking amazing! I pray to have your level of knowledge someday.

You're one of the few people whose advice I respect on here
thank you as always David
one thing i never really put together the deal of putting all those eqs on a source but now i see how your building the track ......so just for that this was great info and it really made me understand how you and other folks use this technique to build a solid, deep sound that fits in a mix
THis video will blow up eventually. Too damn useful.
I love using a crystallizer in place of the doubler. Lower the mix knob to maintain the center
You are a legend!
It feels so good to see great mixers using the same inexpensive Waves plugins to do the same things as me. Maybe I’m actually kinda on the right track lol
Gems as usual!!!!
Thank you for another great video
Wild nice hairstyle and nice breakdown is very helpful
If there was 1 video every audio engineer *must* watch. This is it!
Thanks as always David! Looking forward to the other chains 👍
Apart from the excellent tutorial, the horrorcore hip hop track itself is magnificent! Thank you!

Bravo David!!!!
There's a lot of info and suggestions here. I'm not that fond of just copying people's chains, because I'm trying to develop my ability to 'hear' what the vocal needs in the context of the track, rather than just chuck on someone's chain and think it's going to work. But I'll certainly return this and rewatch, for those occassions when I need inspiration. Good vid, though - food for thought
Ive never plugged a limiter in that early... it just never occurred to me. It makes so much sense versus having top fuck so much with my series of compressors after
Thank you
thank you!

Welcome to the family! 🤘
A good question would be, could you use a good Clipper in hard mode, instead of a Limiter? 🤔
This is humbling, both to me and my pc. I don't put a quarter of the work in a mix. Also my PC wouldn't be able to handle it, without commiting every track - and I really hate committing and freezing audio-tracks.

Commitment is one of the keys to great mixing. Trust yourself.✌️

@@anonagain Points to the wrong item I think.
Do u have any videos on Girl Operatic or high pitched soaring vocals : how u would do that :)
So we should aim for about 5-6db of gain reduction on the limiter?
can i use any compressor if i don't have the one u used? and how much should l be hitting on it dB wise?
Is the light in the background responding to when you talk @MixbusTv
Could you please do a review video of the new Mixbox by IKMultimedia? Would really appreciate that alot 🙏
I just hate to automate the AlterBoy xD idk but the values are so imprecise in Studio One on that plugin
rapper is very good , what is the name of the song ?
What's the rap song called? Sounds tight
can i use plug ins from plug-in alliance to do this?
I'm kinda godlike, the final boss type, you silly tryna kill me I already spawned twice
Question the limiter on the vocal. Do you have the ceiling set at what ever your gain stage is? So it smashes the peaks but not noticable?
@mixbustv
3 жыл бұрын
ceiling doesn't really matter, it's GR you want to look at, the ceiling should match the GR (if auto level compensated)
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENTS BETWEEN Cubase and nuendo
Try the d-verb from plug-in alliance. It pulls out reverb

Would you use a limiter in any kind of vocals? Pop songs for example?
@mixbustv
3 жыл бұрын
yes, is not a matter of genres really, especially if used transparently, most pop vocals are among the most processed of any genre, even if you could hear something, at the end of the treatment you wouldn't even know
