It’s important to seek proper treatment and follow exercises that will prevent further injury. Hopefully, following our recommendations will make your life less painful and a little brighter!
If you suffer from bunions, you might not have recognized the moment when they started to show on your feet. People often don’t pay enough attention to the first signs of a bunion, but it’s vital to catch it early on as it’s only in the initial stages of this condition that it can be prevented. Keep watching to learn tips to prevent bunions and to figure out what to do if you already have them.

SUMMARY:
- Your toes are meant to lie flat and feel comfortable inside a shoe without getting pressed against one another. They should have room to move!
- Your diet is also important. If you are used to eating very fatty foods or opting for whatever happens to be in the fridge, this is a good time to start making smarter dietary choices.
- When it comes to bunions, though, if you spend a lot of time not moving your feet, you risk the muscles becoming tight, the fascia in your feet getting “glued together,” and losing strength in your feet.
- Massage will help you loosen up muscles in your feet and keep your toes facing the right way. When you put your foot into a tight shoe, you are encouraging your toes to be cramped.
- A bunion pad will cushion the area where the bunion hurts and will make it easier to wear shoes.
- A bunion sleeve covers a larger area of your foot than a bunion pad, and it might encase your whole foot arch.
- Crush some ice, wrap it in a towel, and put it against your bunion to diminish the pain. It will also work as an anti-inflammatory.
- If your bunions are already quite large, they might chafe against your shoe and cause your skin to wear away in that area. Regular foot soaks will help relieve tiredness, reduce sweat, and eradicate harmful bacteria.

@@karlenecowan4694 I'm sorry if this is unsolicited advice but switching to minimalist shoes was the best thing I did this year. Those shoes have enough space for your toes which means that your feet have the space to realign to their natural bunion free position. Hiya great video I've got the biggest Banyan you ever seen and I've got one on the other foot 2 and now I'm disabled riddled with Arthritis and you're so right it really does hurt when they're coming until they get really really big
I started wearing zero drop wide toe box shoes. So far it's been a couple months and my feet do feel better.
Very helpful thanks.
Thank you for this informative video, I have developed a bunion on my right foot, and needed to know what caused it,as well as what to do for some relief. I don't think it runs in my family, but I wore high heels for years. (I am 4'9" tall, &it felt(feels)at times like being 'in the land of the giants'!) So, yes I wore them often. I have seldom wore heels in past 5 years, however, but during the past 3yrs, I've had quite a bump appear beside my big R toe. Boy it smarts at times, and the whole area where bump has formed, burns deeply, feeling like, what I would imagine, stepping on a hot coal! I was happy to learn that I may be able to do exercise, and perhaps even help mold or shift the bows there to improve. Yes, sensible footwear is imperative, thanks again for the tips! Hey bright side. You make awesome videos.
As a podiatrist, I can’t agree with most of this advice! Once bunions developed and you are genetically prone it won’t really reverse but you can do things to help with the pain. Having a bunion doesn’t meant you need surgery however. That is only reserved for people with pain and that is the main thing being treated. Shoe wear makes a difference yes. Weight loss won’t really make a difference. I’m not sure how effective these exercises really are. Bunion pads are great! Again main indication for surgery is pain

Since you are a podiatrist, I want to let you know that a bunch of women I know who had surgeries said it didn't help, and actually theirs didn't go away either.
