    After using the electrical tape and gas method, I will never use anything else again. Its amazing how well it worked. No need for grip wire, easy to install, cost effective and WOW does it hold well. I cannot believe how strong the bond is. Seriously, just like in your video it will not budge, no matter how much I try and twist it. Awesome !!

    Excellent vid - I have always hated and avoided putting on grips. In the past had tried the air hose, grip glue, and hair spray methods with much frustration. Put new grips on a trials bike last night using this electrical tape and gas method and it was surprisingly easy and set up fast. The only change i did was to rub the tape with some gas as well just before sliding on the grip - works awesome!

    i figured the whole reaction thing out awhile ago, i had some duct tape covering a small hole in the gas tank of my snowmobile and when i went to take it off it was hard to peel off and it left a sticky residue that to this day (probably 4-5 months from then) is still there.

    I watched this and gave the electrical tape and gasoline method a try. For some reason the gasoline ate a hole in my grip. I did it exactly like the video shows. I’m sure they were a cheap grip to begin with. Any other reason for this? I would buy another set and try again but not if I will have the same results.

    I'm about to do my first grips. I would prefer not to use glue just because of the possibility of jamming up the throttle tube. If I do the zip tie method, will the grips eventually slip because of no glue?

  • @chaparralmotorsports

    Hello, yeah if you don't use some kind of adhesive there's the possibility of the grips slipping. You could use some wire tie to help secure them but still without adhesive there's still a chance of slipping.

    @@chaparralmotorsports Thanks for the response. Im still ot sure which option Im going to use. Ive read that brake cleaner or gas will break down the rubber inside the grip and when it dries bonds to the bars really well, I might do that. I used some spray polyurethane I had laying around, hopefully that doesn't somehow react with the grips? once its dried it should be fine anyways but I figured that stuff is so oily when wet and I figured it would be easy to slide the grips on with it so that's what I used.

    Used a bmx grip as a funnel gasket(idk) on a gas can before. Two days later the grip had basically dissolved. Kinda skeptical of gasoline and rubber ATM, but it might have been due to the quantity... I'm just here looking for a good reason to not put flangeless grips on my dirty... or a practical way to shove a flange cut from another set on the inside of the grip. I want to run vans cult grips

  • @KosmicHRTRacingTeam
    @KosmicHRTRacingTeam3 жыл бұрын

    It’s crazy to me that if you run an aluminum throttle tube, you can’t buy a set of grips that has the lock on feature on the clutch side and the normal slide on style for the aluminum throttle tube. Not only that but it is difficult to find a set of lock on grips and non lock on grips that “match” (same exact model and shape and size). In other words, if I were to buy a set of lock ons pro taper pillow tops at almost $30 and just use the clutch side “lock on” and then buy a set of non lock on pillow tops for $10-15 to use the throttle side, the pro taper “pillow tops” are actually different shape, different length, etc. I have also found this with the half waffles as well. They change the design just enough, so even if I were willing to spend over $40 on 2 sets of their products and throw the left overs away, the patterns on the grips don’t even match. Completely stupid!!

    I tried just compressed air. If I twist hard they do slip so I’m going to take them off and try the hair spray method. And if you’ve ever taken the one throttle grip off a Suzuki DR650, you can accomplish anything in life 😉

    Tried hairspray once, SUCKED. Just recently my friend tried some type of grip glue that took a little longer to dry. First attempt it never did dry so he had to pull it off and start over. The second attempt was a little better, but the grip still moves slightly, especially when he turns on the heat. Another friend was installing Oxford Heated Grips. He tried the same glue, same result. So then I remembered the glue that the Oxford's come with is essentially super glue. I had Oxford's on my last bike for 9 years and the glue never failed. We bought some super glue, slapped the grip on, and in about 10 seconds it was solid, no spinning or waiting for hours. We went riding the next day, the glue had been curing for 15 hours at this point. My friend was able to use his grips on high heat with no issues. Super glue for the win my friends. However we're not moto guys, we don't ride on tracks. You moto guys may have different experiences than us as you're probably torquing on your grips more than we do.
