5,000 Mile Review On The New Subaru WRX

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

It's been six months since owning my new Subaru WRX so I wanted to cover all of my thoughts and impressions on the car and what it has been like to live with for the past 5,000 miles.

    The carbon delete and K&N is what I did and it does help it a bit. As far as exhaust, I know a few guys that thought they would like the muffler delete but the drone is just too much. I want something that flows, light weight and just a bit louder than factory. Also (do at your own risk) put 3 gallons of e85 and the rest 93 for a decent boost in torque.

    Around 30 on the highway is pretty good from my perspective. When I drove out to Utah the other month with the Camaro, the highest I saw was around 24 mpg, and that's with the cruise control on, in 6th gear, and set at only 2-3mph over whatever the speed limit was! And since I don't drive many highway miles at all in daily use, I'm normally much lower than that! I'm not sure what the Mazda 3 is. Since I mostly use it for in-town driving, I'm sure it's not much better than the Camaro!

  • @Gonin60

    @Gonin60

    11 ай бұрын

    I think with how I normally drive of the freeway I would get between 26-28. The 32 I got was babying the car a lot. How is the power of your Mazda? I wish they would make those in a manual

  • @saviordream

    @saviordream

    11 ай бұрын

    @@Gonin60 Power is really good for a daily use. I haven't run into an time yet where I've wished for more power. You don't really need to wind it out, as most of the power comes on lower in the rev range, but that also makes it great for around town/normal use. The turbos spool up really quickly, so it feels great right off the line. And the fact that it has more torque than horsepower really means you get that nice, lower end grunt. While I do sometimes miss the manual, it's also nice to just get in and drive when I'm not trying to be particularly sporty. Plus, the wife wanted something she could drive if the need arose. Still have the manual in the Camaro, so I haven't walked away fully!

    @@Gonin60 Yup, still thinking about it. It's tough, because when I do get the right conditions with the Camaro it's fantastic, and I fall in love with it all over again. But with the MX-5, I think I had more fun, more often because it's limits were just so much lower that I felt like I was extracting more every time I drove it. And being a lightweight car (over 1,000 lbs. less than the Camaro), and a convertible to boot, it was just a whole different feeling. Still going to wait and see what the 2024 MX-5 brings, and then make a decision whether to go back to one next Spring.

    You're not suppose to coast in neutral, UNLESS your intend to stop. It's not a mechanical thing. It is a road safety thing. If something happens and you need to react you will take longer to get in the right gear and react. In the UK driving test they will fail you for that kind of coasting. With all that said, lots of people coast.

    I think the rtv issue has been more of a problem for those tracking their cars and have plagued the BRZ and 86. Still it is a legitimate worry. I’m sure the GTI still does great in the snow I’m here In UT

  • @Danter5435

    I've been on the VB subreddits for the past couple of years and I have not seen any engines blow up due to the RTV (save for one general engine blow up that had an early version of a tuning device at I believe 400-450+ HP on the car). The real culprit (for the most part) has been a fundamental flaw in the BRZ and GR86 with oil pressure issues on right hand turns documented by 900 BRZ here on KZread. It has been tested by WRX_SUB1 and the oil pressure issue has not been found in the WRX due to engine differences (despite both being called the FA24 generally, the BRZ (FA24D) and the WRX (FA24F) have different versions of the same engine) and the WRX has a turbo oil sump pump to prevent oil starvation. You can do your own research to be sure (Maybe they are blowing up on Facebook due to RTV IDK) but I think you would be fine.
