2024 Subaru WRX TR Review // STI In Disguise?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The 2024 Subaru WRX TR (RS In Canada) ($41K) is a brand new trim for the new generation Subaru WRX. It still has the same 271 horsepower from a 2.4 liter turbocharged boxer 4 cylinder but it gets fully outfitted with goodies like Recaro seats, upgraded suspension, brakes, wheels and tires. But does that make it more than the sum of its parts, or is it just another excuse for Subaru to not release a proper STI? Watch and find out!

Subaru is wise enough to hear the criticisms of their cars…and then keep the things that are criticized, and change OTHER things 😂

Biggest thing that annoys me with them is how they refuse to offer the wagon body THEY DO MAKE in japan, australia and until recently europe. Levorg/WRX Sportwagon is literarily what people need and want. It fixes the rear end looks, its immensely practical when compared to Crosstrek.

@@OviWanKeno9i Yea, but it's definitely not all about speed or power. Take an S2k or Miata for example being known as driver enthusiast cars. People also do want long term reliability if they plan on keeping the car for years to come and don't want it to be stuck in shops for weeks at a time (sorry Hyundai). The problem is this "sort of sporty but also very practical" sports car just isn't what the main STI/WRX fan base was. They (I included) want the clean, tuned look, with the classic wing and interior that isn't so clanky. An exhaust that pops/crackles or at least isn't as muted as this. I think the practical class is already dominated which is why this won't sell much at all. The only real redemption with this car is the manual transmission, and AWD if you really need it.

It also has more aftermarket support already than any other brand. With just an intake and tune, you're pushing above everything around. I dyno tested the base VB wrx dampers and they returned pretty digressive plot which, if further exacerbated on the TR, would explain the low-speed discomfort. At lower shaft velocity, the dampers create a lot more force which aids in body control, but this curve levels off at higher velocities to better absorb curbing on track.

I had a 2018 WRX that was modded like crazy and so much fun, I got rid of it in 2020 when I saw Subaru was changing their tried and tested boxer for a redesigned one as I was hoping to upgrade down the line. To this day I believe it was one of the greatest choices I've made because I would have been waiting literally decades for an upgraded Subaru that never would have come into market. They do everything they can to NOT improve their cars in ways their customers actually ask for and I want nothing to do with that.

The engine revs up so much faster than the previous 2 lite engine to its 6700 limit which you could hear as it would start to strain as it approached 6700. Also waiting for the next generation as that has to be a hatch as the Impreza is only as a hatch.

And, correct me if I’m wrong, three GR Supra only either came in manual in 2022, or 2022 and then on and in very limited numbers. 99% of them are DCT. Essentially all of them. Therefore, it’s the only car on this JDM list that has never stopped production and can still offer a manual turbocharged experience all for under $35,000 and while being brand new. Say what you will about the power plant and whatnot, I’ve driven a few VBs. They’re definitely more put together and “boring”.
