4x4 Covered Wagon, Revived!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This covered wagon is built on a Jeep FC-150 chassis with a Willys "Go Devil" L-head engine. I built it almost two years ago, and I decided it was finally time to get around to little details like brakes.
A quick note on the brakes, in the video I talked about the different length brake shoes. I've had a few comments saying that I had it backward, but there are different types of drum brakes. Most people are used to the Bendix style brakes, that have a floating adjuster on the bottom. These have the larger shoe on the back, because the bottom moves with the wheel rotation. This axle has the Wagner-Lockheed style brakes where the bottom is fixed and the top can move. This style has the larger shoe on the front. I'll detail this in the next video when I replace the leaky wheel cylinder.

I love your ingenuity! I grew up dirt poor, and we would find old bikes, and go-cart frames, lawnmowers, etc., and we would cobble together some of the most hideous looking, but fun vehicles ever! You're only limited by your imagination! Love the covered wagon episodes!

Its ironic that you steal so many parts from so many different projects that you eventualy come full circle and the part you need that you stole turns up where you eventualy need it. Love it! Thats just my speed!

That thing is too cool! One of these days I’d love to see a video on that other motorhome you have in the yard that looks to be 4x4. I’ve wanted to build or own some kind of 4x4 RV for years so that’s super interesting to me. 🚌

You and I would get along great. I also am a fix it type guy and make miracles happen from junk, was raised by a father like you and he refused to pay another man to work on his vehicles,Im a union carpentar now from my mothers side of family so no matter what the problem is,it's always fixable with enough inginuity and determination. Love the vids and everytime I sit down to watch one,I find myself back in the garage building cool stuff. Thanks for the videos and the drive that you give me to keep tinkering on things.

Man, you have one of the most even voices on KZread. I expect you would sound about the same whether you were talking about something over coffee or explaining to me how to help you stop the runaway wagon as it hurtled down a slope without brakes. That kind of temperament inspires confidence in others in your nature.

That's a super size Army mule 2.0, just need to monkey rig some articulating steering aparatus like the mule has for the fun of it if nothing else... For your wagon top find a big old smelly military surplus waxed canvas tent. like a mess tent, the thick stuff that you can grommet and draw tight without ripping, instead of that cheese cloth you got goin on there, if the tent is big enough you can use the extra for making some roll down side panels & front & rear flaps.Years ago I built a sheepherder style wagon on the flat bed of my 1941 chevy swb 1.5t , patched together the canvas top from some old heavy duty WW2 era canvas tent pieces that i sewn together & stretched over curved flat metal rib stays ,I cut the roof off my truck years ago because the gear noise from the straight cut trans and diff gears howling & echoing in the cab was too much to handle, plus i enjoy convertibles The drivetrain is all original with around 600k miles on the clock.Only mechanical change is a 1959 235cu straight 6. I had an old 50's teardrop camper on the back for many years before i made the sheepherder unit which was on the truck for 10 years or more, I've had the truck for 40 years now an its back to being a flatbed. Do you live in the high desert? From your videos it sure looks like my back yard in the high desert near the N/W border of Death Valley. I have a Superior 20' Motorhome with Dodge 413/727 auto running gear just like the one in your yard,, If interested in it give me a heads up, i like trading stuff for stuff. Anyway really enjoy your make do with do channel. Westward Ho, Lone Pine, Ca
