Where can I find that bearing puller set? I was looking at a few and they only go up to 1.25", the largest one is almost 2"

Hi TurboV8, you can find it on eBay...I think it was $55 shipped if I recall correctly. Will have everything you need for most GM transmission bushings. Thank you for watching.

Hello. what is the difference between friction discs and steel discs 91-96 and 97 up? can i use parts 91-96 to build a 97up transmission?

The intermediate clutch pack had .080 thick frictions in the 91-96 units; no cushion spring/plate...97 and up used .070 thick frictions and a cushion plate....Early and late intermediate clutch apply pistons had different casting numbers as well though I'd have to compare them on the bench to see if they are dimensionally different from each other.

That must be the trans that has the oil cooler return in the center support.

Yep, it’s a 2007 unit. 97+ 4l80Es all have the cooler return in the center support.

@@nickstransmissions I thought so, some of the bushings I noticed that they had grooves in them. Early 4L80s and 400s lubed through the intermediate shaft, it had holes in it. The later 4L80 had a solid intermediate shaft, the lube oil flowed around it, so that is why the grooves were added. I did some parts swapping between a 400 and early 4L80. The trans that I grabbed the parts from had a tube that ran from the front to the rear for lube, so the swap was compatible. I used center support, intermediate clutch plate, and direct drum. I do have a later type 4L80, the only thing I grabbed from it was the upper bolt lug on case, so I can mount my 400 on back of a 6.0 engine. I TIG welded it in, all fits up nice.

Hi Turbo, I'd replace it if it's not nice and snug and you are testing that pump bushing on a new converter...If it's on the old converter and the converter's hub is worn, it may test a bit loose which is no big deal...You want to test it on a new converter / converter hub.

@@nickstransmissions replace the pump? Gosh I'd hate to have to do that since the pump looks good otherwise. I dont see any oversized bushings though... pump is about 4 years old, it's a fairly fancy Circle D. I don't have another converter to test it against unfortunately.

Replace the bushing, not the pump. Unless mutiple bushings are loose fitting on your new converter (confirm the converter hub OD is within spec as well before doing anything else)

@@nickstransmissions thanks for the clarification. It was a loose on the original bushing. I put a new one in and it feels exactly the same. I think it's very possible the converter isn't the correct size. I need to get a book because I'm needing more specs than I thought I would originally. If someone makes different size bushings I can slap one of those on there.

Call Omega Machine in Sacramento to see if they would make a slightly oversized pump body bushing or have one available...They sell wide forward drum bushings for those transmissions also. Website: www.omegamachine.com/db/Contact-Us.asp
