This was probably the best step by step transmission removal video I have seen on KZread. I worked as an engineer writing procedures to remove and replace components on the Space Shuttle Main Engine and this fellow could have written the remove and replace procedure for GM. Great job and excellent presentation - wish I'd had you working on the Shuttle with me.

I greatly appreciate the feedback! I definitely try to make the very best instructionals possible. When I see something that hasn't been covered well, I try to make a video the way that I would want to watch it.
I pulled a 4l80e out of a 2000 GMC Savanna last Saturday...this was a life saver. I appreciate you for taking your time and being thorough.

Awesome info. Its super easy to say "unplug wire" but its the little things that are appreciated. We take our own knowledge for granted and assume everyone has the same common knowledge. Lol

Thank you for making this video. My friend asked me to help him replace his flex plate and I’ve only done non electrical transmissions (th350). I really appreciate you showing all the electrical connectors and socket sizes.

Beautiful work!
Appreciate the video. Very well done. I have a 6.5 suburban that has been sitting for a while (no reverse) needing a trans and I’ve been on the fence if I was going to pay someone or DIY it. Think I’m going to give it a shot myself now that I’ve seen this. About to start a mini resto on the 96 burb.

Really great guide. Gonna pull mine out of my 93 GMC crew cab 6.5 soon for a rebuild. It keeps randomly losing overdrive. Thanks for this.

Many thanks. Great video. Also thank you for keeping the music down low : )

Will the process be similar for a 4x4 with a 454?
@dudewecanfixit

Yes. You will also have to remove the front drive shaft and transfer case.
Mine has no clearance. No space to let the whole thing down, no space to slide the transfer case off. Can’t even force it out. Gonna have to adjust my torsion bars to move the rear crossmember
@dudewecanfixit
Жыл бұрын
Yes, get the torsion spring compressor tool, relieve the spring tension and pull the cross member with torsion bars intact towards the rear of the vehicle. The torsion bars will fall out of the control arms, so be careful.
don't forget to mark your drive shaft before removal.

Should you mark the drives haft so it goes back in the same way.Great video by the way..
@dudewecanfixit

I don't mark the driveshaft unless I take the driveshaft apart. It is balanced as a unit. You can mark it if you like though. It won't hurt anything.
Amazing video. Thanks.

Hi, very nice video! I like all the little details you mention. The devil is in the details they say ;) Can you tell me what year is the truck? and it's a 6.5L diesel correct? Thank you and keep up the great work!
@dudewecanfixit

It's a 1996 with a newer transmission. Yes, it is a 6.5 diesel. All my trucks are!
I have a 2001 GMC Jimmy that I need to remove the transmission where do I started

Watch the video, it’s step by step. The only difference is you have a front driveshaft and transfer case you need to remove before taking the transmission out

I believe from 1992 - 2009
That thing has to weigh 250 pounds. Had to cringe when I saw you put the jack under the pan without the uprights on each corner. So easy for the transmission to slide off.
