    I flew from LAX to HNL via a United Airlines 747 in November of 1991. I had a window seat on the left side. As I remember it we banked hard right just west of Pearl Harbor and the first landmark I identified out the window was the Arizona Memorial. About 4 hours later I was climbing Diamond Head to the top. It was a great trip. I hope to go back some day.

    I wish I'd had the opportunity to fly to Hawaii on a 747. I was there many times when United, Qantas, and others were still flying them to the islands, but never booked one of them. That's a great memory to have. Thanks for watching my friend.

    It has been well over 30 years since I have been there but I did not know airlines made this approach. It makes sense since there are many flights and a variety of conditions. This also gives visitors a look at parts of the island many might not even visit. In the usual southside approach, the northern areas are not visible but at one point I could see from Ka'ena Point to Honolulu. Back when my grandmother visited, long before videos were online to see, she wrote in a journal how the sight of all the development in Honolulu while flying into the tropical Pacific isle was kind of a surprise.

    I think this is a pretty rare approach. I've flown in/out of HNL 87 times in the last 10 years and this is on the only time I've ever seen this approach. It did indeed provide excellent views of places you don't normally get to see from the air. Thanks for watching my friend! I wonder what aircraft your grandmother flew in. I bet it had way more character than today's options haha.

    This approach to HNL passing north of Oahu is very rare. You're circling around the entirety of west Oahu. I' live here and I've only flown this way twice, both times on flights from Anchorage, AK. At 13:00 you're passing Kahuku Point, which is the northernmost tip of the island, then heading along Oahu's famed North Shore. At 14:45, the town of Haleiwa appears below the wing. At 16:00, Kaena Point, the westernmost tip of Oahu, appears below as you bank to begin your approach to HNL down the Waianae Coast. At this juncture, you're 25 miles NW of HNL. Beautiful video.

    The landing may be a routine landing but it’s the combination of ever being presented in this video that makes it incredible. Landing during beautiful weather, with beautiful clear views, during perfect light to start. Then you have absolutely stunning views of a tropical paradise, coupled with an extremely rare arrival. This arrival, where the island is visible for that long before landing is very rare. Then, you get incredible views of the west side of Oahu and Pearl Harbor before having a bit of a wobbly landing. Yes, the base turn is the last turn before you are lined up with the runway on final. You won't always have a noticeable base turn, as sometimes you get funneled in directly into a long final. Like when you're flying into LAX form the east. You line up miles and miles out, and never even have a base turn.

So, Once they've hit that number they have to be retired. I wouldn't worry about a plane based on it's age.

    A pretty routine landing, yes, but it’s the combination of everything presented that makes it incredible. Stunning golden hour lighting, a beautiful tropical paradise, a heavy wide body landing, Pearl Harbor views, I could go on. Overall, this video provides some of the best views of Oahu for any landing on KZread, and has a very rare approach on top of all of that. Yes, this landing takes place every day, but that doesn’t mean the series of events presented here aren’t special or incredible.

    How do you take these complete videos when you're supposed to turn off all electronic devices during takeoff and landing? And flight attendants do check.

  • @sla31

    @sla31

    5 ай бұрын

    Because that rule requiring you to turn off electronic devices hasn’t been in effect since 2015. Small handheld electronic devices are allowed to be used during all phases of flight, and it has that way been since the end of 2015.

    Well, ultimately that depends on where you're flying. Countries like Japan still have a mask mandate. That said, you do not have to wear masks on planes in the US anymore. That was dropped by the government and all airlines months ago now.

    I'm not sure why you thought something would go wrong? Incredible, in the pure sense of an adjective doesn't usually mean something bad. Videos where something goes wrong I typically say that in the title. You know, "Emergency Landing", "Intense Thunderstorms", "Go-Around". Either way, I appreciate you watching. Thanks my friend.

    somebody please tell me where the "incredible" part supposed to be. To me it looks like just a regular landing. Could have been done in less than 5 minutes, but no, We have to watch 27 boring minutes for nothing. This is called click bait, just in case you want to know. Poor!

  • @sla31

    @sla31

    2 жыл бұрын

    Oh Roger, my friend. I'm really sorry you seem to be so jaded by life that you watch this and that is the conclusion you come to. Obviously, as the author of this video, I strongly disagree with your conclusion that is click bait. But, instead of just deleting your comment, I prefer to let your opinion stand, and refute it. In fact, I do my very best to never clickbait people, and use appropriate adjectives when describing my content. And frankly, this videos 98% like rating would suggest that you're in the minority. That said, you asked for reasons why this was incredible. So, let me share why it is in fact, incredible. First, this landing, all 27 minutes of it, has some of the most spectacular views ever captured on a typical approach to the beautiful island of Oahu. Very seldom is a flight given this approach, where the topical paradise is visible for so long during the approach. On top of that, the weather was phenomenal. Meaning, you could actually see the island, which for the most part, isn't obscured by clouds. It was also filmed during golden hour, when lighting was at its best. Then you have us passing through beautiful cumulonimbus clouds, the pressure difference causing water to vaporize over the wing, and again, some of the best views of Oahu on KZread. And that's all before we get to the best part, which is the final approach. The stunning views of one of the most beautiful places on Earth are only magnified as we get closer to the ground and the lighting becomes even better. So good, that you can actually see the exhaust coming out of the engine... We then pass over Pearl Harbor, where you can clearly see everything, including the USS Arizona memorial and the battleship, USS Missouri. That's not even including the modern warships you can see. Then we pass over the air force base, where all variety of amazing military aircraft are visible. Including a gaggle of C-17's and one C-5. We then have a pretty wobbly landing, where our wing has a pretty big bounce just after touchdown. Despite the smooth approach, they actually had to fight it a bit at the last minute. And all of that, all of those moments, doesn't even cover the fact that people just don't seem to appreciate flight for what it is. The engendering marvel it is to be able to fly from Seattle to Honolulu onboard a pressurized metal tube at 550mph. Just about 100 years ago we still couldn't fly at all... And now, we have the ability to not only fly, but be able to record at ultra high definition where anyone in the world can see it too, experience it too. This may have been a typical landing that happens everyday at HNL. In fact, DL450 does operate everyday. But, it's the combination of everything I listed and more that makes this specific landing "incredible." And like I said at the beginning. If you truly watched this and aren't just being a troll, and you saw a modern engineering marvel, in amazing light, passing by a true tropical paradise, and your comment is what you were left with, then I'm really sorry that's how you see it. That all said, even if you still don't like this video, I appreciate you taking the time to watch.

    Oh STOKER, my friend. First, no one is forcing anyone to watch my content if they don't want to. I have run this channel, by myself, for 6 years now, and you know what? I've had the same exact type of content from day one. I don't pretend to be anything I'm not. I don't try to grab people who aren't interested in my content. I have built an aviation based community here, with 55,000 subscribers and sometimes, up to 1.5 million views per month. And don't misunderstand that as bragging. I'm simply trying to show you that, even if you don't like my content, there are a lot of other people who do. And the great thing about KZread is that if you don't like one channel, you can definitely find one that has content you do enjoy. I'm really sorry you didn't enjoy this, but I personally think this is probably the best captured, and one of the most unique landings every filmed into Honolulu. First, this landing has some of the most spectacular views ever captured on a typical approach to the beautiful island of Oahu. Very seldom is a flight given this approach, where the topical paradise is visible for so long during the approach. On top of that, the weather was phenomenal. But, it's the combination of everything I listed that makes this specific landing "special." And it's the reason why so many people have liked it, and why so many people do enjoy the content I put out. If it's not for you, that's fine. Regardless, thanks for watching my friend.
