It is a 45minute flight from Seattle to Portland.

What an awesome view of Mt St Helen at 36:10. I visited there in 2011. You can still see the lava flow channels and barren land 41 years after it blew.

That propeller shot @ 18:43 is amazing.

I love Alaska/Horizon, Sea-Tac airport, PDX and the Pacific Northwest. No drought here! It's gorgeous and so clean.

WOWOWOWOW!!! What a scenic flight!! Good views of the runways of Sea-Tac. Good views of Three Tree Point. Great views of Vashon Island. Good views of Southworth. Good view of Maury Island, Point Robinson and Quartermaster Harbor. Good views of the Issaquah Alps. Good view of Poverty Bay and Federal Way. Good view of Sea-Tac Mall. Good views of Puyallup and Sumner. Good view of South Hill Mall. Good view of Tapps Lake. Good view of Orting. Good view of Lake Kapowsin. And... spectacular views of Mt, Rainier and even more amazing views of Mt. St. Helens. Very good view of Spirit Lake. Good view of Mt. Adams. Good view of Vancouver Lake coming into to PDX. We're having a cold spring this year, a consequence of the triple-dip La Nina that's been hitting us.

I plan too. They're a tight squeeze for me at 6' 2" tall, but I love flying turboprops.

I visited Mt. St. Helens in 1996, and the landscape was so devastated. It looks like it is still a long way from recovering. I happened to be working in Montana when it blew, and we got covered in ash even that far away.

What a lovely view of Mt. St. Helens...all 3x I flew this route it was cloudy as hell

I usually is haha. I lucked out on this flight. I took this flight again last week on an ERJ-175 and couldn't see anything haha.

Man those Dash 8s land hard, I was on a westjet dash 8 a few months back and the landing was much like that one

I love it when you capture the views of the Pacific NW! I wish you could have seen the WSU Cougar livery (my Alma mater) Dash 8 better, love the colors & logo! (Go Cougs!) Stunning views of Mt Ranier, Mt Adams, what's left of Mt St Helens & Mt Hood! If you ever want to hear a Mt St Helens eruption story from 1980, I've got one. Thanks for the video.

I would if I were you! They’re so fun to fly on, and I’m sad they’re being retired. Do it soon though. They’re gone by the end of 2023.

Yes, in fact, I believe Alaska has said they'll be gone by the end of next year.

I flew on one of these (same airline and from SEA) the day after this vid was posted

@@JustHitRecord_ yeah gas is ridiculous everywhere rn. I live in Nova Scotia Canada, and we use litres instead of gallons here, but my mom got gas in our fire escape the other day, and ut costed 95$ to fill a 46 litre gas tank.

You'd be surprised. SEA-PDX and back is a VERY popular route. In fact, between Alaska and Delta, they have flights leaving between the two cites almost every 30 minutes, and they're always PACKED. It's basically shuttle service. A lot of people commute between the two cities on a regular basis.

LOL. I would have been agitated the whole flight with that leg space.

Well I use a Mac so it’s pretty seamless. I don’t have much experience with PC’s. Some computers aren’t capable of playing 4K, so it may be that. My laptop that I travel with is old enough that it tops out at 1080, even though I film in 4K.

How come the propeller stopped after takeoff

It didn’t. It’s and illusion caused by the frame rate of the camera. The propeller is spinning but the blades are in the same position every time the camera takes a frame. So it looks like they’re stationary but they’re not.

Can someone explain to me why the propeller seems like it stopped ? Is it because the rotation speed is so extreme that it's an optical illusion or what ? Just wondering with my Primitive Serbian mind lol 😆

It’s The camera frame rate and propeller are basically synced in a way that makes it look like it’s not spinning .

@B Guzman it's an illusion created by the frame rate of the camera. Just like our eyes, which if we were to compare it to camera, see's real life at around 30-45 frames per second, a camera shoots video by stitching together a lot of pictures. I film at 60 frames per second. So, every second, the camera is taking 60 pictures. Which then gets put together to form a video. Anything less than 30 frames per second and your eyes will be able to noticed gaps in the footage. What you're seeing here is the RPM's of the prop matching the frame rate of the camera. In other words, every time the camera takes a picture, the propeller just happens to be in the same spot it was when it took the last picture. So the prop is still spinning. In fact, it's still spinning so fast your eye can't even see it anymore, but the camera is taking 60 pictures a second, and every time it takes a picture, the blades are in the same spot. Giving the illusion that the blade has stopped spinning. When it really hasn't.

Yes. It just looks still for a couple for a couple of reasons: The first is that the frame rate of the camera can't capture the speed of the rotation. The second is that the human brain can't process rotating objects moving over a certain rate of speed, and the resulting "signal" or perception of what we actually see is that the propeller is either moving very slowly or not at all. Kind of a cool optical illusion that our eyes pull on us.

The ground scenes at PDX and inflight announcements take us back to the very recent past during the waning days of the federal mask mandate--I will assume this is your last flight taken with the mandate in place? I flew this route in the opposite direction years ago--PDX-SEA Q400. SEA-IAH 737-800--the flight you took is known as the 'Seattle Shuttle',I believe there is a flight in either direction every 30 minutes! Am hearing the Q400s will be phased out in favor of what? Did you connect at PDX? Can't beat the scenery as we turn left over Elliott Bay!

I honestly don’t remember what my last fight was before the mandate was lifted. I’m sure I probably have more to post haha. And the Q400’s are being replaced by ERJ-175’s.
