Hey Guys,
Today we’ll be reviewing the hardware features and specifications of a PTZ (or Pan, Tilt and Zoom) security camera by a company called VIKY-LIN. Right off the bat, it has a 20x optical zoom lens, which grabbed my attention right away. To tack onto that, it offers 4k video and features a microphone and an outstanding night vision range 100m, that’s well over 300ft.
[Montage]
At just over $300US, this camera comes in at less than half the price of bigger brands with similar features. Today’s menu:
Chapters:
00:00 Introduction
01:27 Unboxing
02:34 Camera Specs
09:23 Conclusion
Today though is just about the physical specs.
Unboxing
1. We have some screws for mounting the camera onto a wall
2. A weather sealing coupler to protect the RJ45 connection from the elements
3. A wall mount. It’s aluminum and quite solid and obviously won’t rust.
4. It’s a generic manual for all their cameras. Easy to follow and understand.
5. The camera itself. The shell and dome are aluminum. Wow, it actually feels and sounds like a professional grade camera. The side covering here for the tilt swivel are plastic but very solid and not going anywhere. I believe it’s about 2.3kg or just over 5 pounds.
Specs
1. Here on the top of the camera, this is where the mount attaches to the bracket.
2. There are 2 leads. One is a 12v power connection, but as you saw, no adapter was included. This is ok and expected since the easiest way to power this camera is through my Ethernet cable, using PoE, or Power Over Ethernet where your switch or NVR supplies power to the camera over the network cable. The camera actually uses PoE+ which is for higher wattage devices up to 30 watts. To know if your PoE switch will work with this camera, look for the standard 802.3at in your switch’s specifications. Look for links in the description on recommended PoE+ switches and all the hardware seen here.
3. The dome does spin 360 degrees, so there is no blind spot and it spins continuously. The tilt range is from 0-90 degrees.
4. On the back of the dome, you may have noticed a little door. There’s nothing there. I would say this is for other camera models with an SD card slot or maybe for hardware for WiFi.
5. There is no memory card slot present on this camera. The footage is meant to be stored outside of the device and since I want to record continuously, that would fill up a memory card pretty quick at 4k.
a. To record the footage, you have a few basic options:
i. You can use the security camera management software Blue iris to record and playback footage.
ii. You could also use a network video recorder or NVR. This camera supports the Hikvision protocol.
iii. The last option is to record the footage through the app on your mobile device.
6. The cam has an environmental lighting sensor so the camera knows when to switch between daytime color and nighttime black and white modes
7. Surrounding the camera’s lens, we have the 8 IR lights for night vision. They say the range is 100m (328ft) which is impressive and we’ll have fun testing that in detail in the future.
8. The camera lens here is an outstanding 20x optical lens ranging from 94mm at its widest, all the way up to 4.7mm. That translates to a viewing angle of 64 degrees to 2.9.
9. Lastly, behind the lens, we have a 1/2.8in 8MP Sony CMOS sensor. That’s 4k and at 20FPS, that is a lot of data. That’s about 100 gigs per day when recording continuously with H.264 compression.
Alright guys, that wraps up the physical specs for this impressive camera today. I’m very happy by the specs for what you get and the price also puts a smile on my face. I am already in the process of testing the software features (like the tracking) and the footage, so you’re not going to want to miss out on those upcoming videos. We’ll see if all these specs can live up to their name.

Love these videos of more cost-friendly versions of cameras for us homeowners. Will keep an eye out for follow up videos. You do a great job every time. If you keep it into the winter that would be a good test too, especially with moving parts in very cold climates (Northeast US here).

Thanks for the awesome comment! Yes, I hope to test this one in the cold weather to see how it performs. I like testing cameras in the summer because the colourful scenery is really appealing and shows off those good quality sensors. The winters are so bland and dull but do offer good opportunities for extreme cold and snow.

@@HomeTechDIY thank you a much, you made me feel a lot better, i think the zoom thing can be fixed by a firmware upgrade, since the camera is capable of doing so, idk but i have heard that dahua limit the software features on the vikylin to compensate for the cheaper price, some people where able to flash the camera with dahua firmware to use the full features, idk as I'm not an expert but this is the result of my research

I used Chrome from my PC and logged into the camera's web user interface. Just enter the IP address and the default credentials are admin:123456. From there you have access to all the configuration.

can I ask, if you switched off ONVIF accidentally! how would you go about to switching it back on? back story: I switched mine off thinking what was already connected would stay connected. I've reset the camera many times and have uses poe and wireless with no success (poe via router and also pc used). your help on this would be great.

If you log into the camera's webUI using your PC's browser, you could be able to turn OBVIF back on. You'll need the camera's IP address. If you are unsure of the address, use VIKYLIN's IP address finder: www.vikylin.com/uploads/Software/AjDevTools_V5.3.1_20210813.exe Hope this helps!

Thanks for the review - i was wondering have you done any reviews on the newer PTZ cameras with dual lens? Just curious whether they are worth the extra money for dual lens feature?

802.3az means the switch has a power saving mode but doesn't indicate if the device is 802.3at compatible. You would need to check the specifications for 802.3at.

I am still using this camera in the same spot where I set it up last year in this video. The daytime continues to be perfect, but the nighttime isn't as strong. There is some ghosting and trails as people move in front of the camera. I have tracking turned on and it works good in the day and even at night. I wish it zoomed in a little closer when someone walk by on the street. It tracks accurately about 95% of the time but it only zooms in 2-3x where I would like to see 10x. I saw no issues in heavy rain and extreme cold temperatures. I record the footage on Blue Iris and I've had no issues. Hope this helps!
