You can get a Smarty sim with unlimited data, no contract, £18 a month and they are completely fine with you using it as your main broadband. Not the fastest but I don't need mega speed.

Yes it works fine.
I'm buying a 5g home router plus external antenna when my dsl contract is up. Im on the edge of 5g coverage here and a 5g handset can pick the 5g up outside. This will be much more cost effective as products that are sold on BT openreach are getting a rip off.

i just got rid of Virgin Media at £61 a month and now I have Smarty 5g unlimited data for £18 a month. Cancelled my TV licence too. Bought a new pc with the money i will be saving.

@@Withnail1969 yes virgin & BT think they have monopoly on home broadband, thankfully this situation is coming to an end.
