Nice video, thanks for sorting a test out. I'm on virgin as i can't get fibre, and it's not cheap getting the 500mb package and still look at using this at renewal time as leverage or will just jump.

Virgin know they are the fastest in some area's but there are now a lot of local ISP's that can take on the big boys. in London there is Community Fibre, in Glasgow there is Gigaair, in Edinburgh its City Fibre. most offer a very fast service, and are completely independent networks. ie nothing to do with openreach or BT. and can really take on the big boys are service and cost.

Hello, Alan! I opted for the 5G hub just before Christmas 2021, and it's fantastic. Iv'e had brilliant speeds although I have not done a speed test as yet. Also at the moment, (well it was in December) if you aquire one, they are offering a 32" television, or a Samsung crome Notebook 4 with 15.6" screen. I opted for the Notebook, which arrived a week or so ago. So quids in. By the way, I am in the east midlands.

Or increase speed if left on window, Also have you tested speeds with the hub left on the floor without external antenna?. Another question is about the contract what happens to the router at the end can you keep it? Cheers 🙂

Hey Alan, I just moved to an area where the maximum fibre speed is 40mb, and since 5g is available in my area I’m really opting to just go with a 5g router instead. I just have 2 questions: Is this router good for gaming? I’m an avid gamer and so I’d want a router which has low latency (around 20-30ms) How is the range? Are the connections only stable inside the room that you’re in or does it reach into other areas of the house? Thanks

Now I have a 5G mobile phone SIM card ordered on three on its way and my question is would it work on that device do you know or does it have to have to have a designated data only sim ? Another way of asking is, can that SIM card that came with that 5G hub be used for a phone as normal ? Thanks for reviewing am seriously considering this as little did I know that there is now 5G in my area, have been playing around with 4G hubs and disappointed with the performance so could buy one those 5G hubs outright possibly and use the SIM card I have ordered, which is going to be a spare anyway unless I return it.

This is good. No 5G in my area, but 4G already provides similar performance to what I’m getting from virgin and at half the cost. Virgin is supposed to be giving me up to 200mbps but it barely ever breaks 100. Today virgin is giving me 80 and 4G on o2 is giving 75. More impressive, the 4g upload is quicker. Three offer unlimited for about £20 at the moment.

I’m not into port forwarding so that won’t be an issue, just don’t want to become unstuck on other simple tasks if i make the full switch. Also a little put off by the ping being close to 100ms. I’m on Three mobile and it’s similar for my 4g iPhone whereas the fixed broadband is around 20ms so don’t want to increase that too much for gaming...

The 5G is quick and as a normal home user, ie youtube, netflix, school work etc. it's a great alternative to BT or Virgin, gaming will probably have mixed results as the Ping isn't consistent like fibre. but as a everyday internet connection for home use, it's great. I have been using it at home now since Dec and have no other internet connection. and it keeps all three of my kids happy online and the Adults have no problem on line at the same time either.

Hi WIFI coverage will depend on your house. And building materials ie my home is reinforced concrete as a result the WiFi doesn’t leave the sitting room. I have Ethernet cables going from a network switch to each room and WiFi access point in each room. You can use mesh ap’s as well but hard wired is usually better and quicker. I don’t mesh them as the signal won’t leave the sitting room so the ap in the hall won’t connect wirelessly. Etc. I use ubiquiti kit at home and for my customer installations. If your in London worth checking to see if you can get internet from community fibre the guys are great and connection is fast. I have heard that 5G in London is Terrible. On most networks. But worth checking to see what you can expect from three or any other provider before subscribing. Hope this helps. Cheers, Alan
