I have a 03 Kodiak 450 4x4 auto and I did similar to what u did except the air intake I couldn't find a 90° rubber elbow small enough to make that curve. I have a hmf exhaust with a jet kit and hauls ass lol I beat a brand new Polaris 450 auto lol

I was waiting on this I’ve been looking at the exact same bike. I’ve always been a Kawasaki guy for my quads and Honda for everything else but The small bore grizzlies and kodiaks seem to be a good option. Locker, irs, parts are still abundant and they are getting cheap.

Would a stiffer secondary spring setup with the shim mod not also be better vs just the shim? I didn’t think a shim mod alone was as common. You could also consider slugs, I hate them personally but with a big tire setup it might be better… food for thought

  • @MudPuppyOffroad

I'm going to test out a 1.2 mm shim and the softest secondary spring Epi makes just to do the science but it's not going to account for the fact that this thing is geared 67% higher in Reverse than low range LOL

@@MudPuppyOffroad yeah I use to run the 1.2mm shim and purple epi, was a great balanced setup for moderate tires… limits speed until you get a machined sheave. Highly recommend a machined sheave! Great to see some more Yamaha content - sink er deep!

If your belt is slipping after you installed shims your belt is worn out, 1000's of people shim or machine the sheaves without issue. It's the must do mod for bigger tires because it's dirt cheap and works great. I've done it to a few king quads and none of them have ever slipped a belt afterwards. Your theory about the smaller contact area on the belt is right but it is a non issue with a good belt.

@@MudPuppyOffroadThey just dont need the reduction, it's a waste of time and money on that machine, they're geared plenty low with a 10 dollar shim. My buds have kodiaks, they never ever use low range it's too slow with 26 inch tires.

@@nseric1233 thank you for your opinion lol wait to see my video of this thing coming to a complete stop in mildly thick mud 100% needs lower gears especially in reverse the only belt drives that are worth a shit to me are ones that have extremely low gears to make up for the stupid rubber band
