I love 45-70 myself. Used a 500 grain bullet that expands to 1.75 inches last hunting season. Killed the biggest hog I've ever seen in person.

I have hunted and reloaded the 45-70 for 56 years. I own a Winchester 1886, Marlin 1895 Classic, Henry Brass sidegate, and an 1874 Shilo Sharps. Born in 1873 and just as deadly today as it was at birth.
@DesertHusker
I wouldn't want to change your mind. 45-70 has stood the test of time just like the .45 Colt two of my all-time favorites.

Awesome! I just picked up a 45-70 Marlin GS 2002 model, getting set up to load now. took a little running to find brass and also factory ammo can be a little scarce around here, not real popular, Illinois is freakin' flat! but had to have one anyway!I agree with ya brother it's one of the best out there.great video as usual, thanks fer sharing....

It's funny that you mention swinging the steel targets all the way around with 45/70. I was used to my steel targets moving with 9mm, 45acp, 45 Colt, etc. However, recently I bought a CVA Scout 45/70. I was amazed to see my 8" (3/8") steel targets spinning completely around when hit with a 405gr lead 45/70 bullet. Also, it sounded like I was hitting a big church bell, instead of an 8" plate. PS ... always enjoy you videos.

45 colt is my favorite rifle or pistol cartridge. I dont care if I lived out west 45 colt would still be my favorite becouse I dont see good enough to shoot past 150 yards lol
@theblindsniper9130
I love sending them out of my trapdoor springfield. I would stay it's the best for all situations, like dont use it to defend your apartment in a crowded complex. But boy can it handle a lot of jobs.
@kennethhamby9811
Nope, can’t do it. ‘Ol grandpa is tops in my book.
@bluescatreimer
45-70 is still around for a reason, it was used to take buffalo and I expect it would take anything still out there.
@thealsatian4232
That Marlin will do it all.
@jasonm6090
I live here in Alaska, and it is the number 1 Dangerous game cartridge here used for bear along with the Marlin 1895.
@anangryranger
Got my first TD carbine when 12 years old. Was on loan to me by a great uncle. An 1873 Springfield removed from the field by an ancestor after Custer got his ass handed to him. Shot 385gr cast RN with 55gr FF black powder, with some filler. Used an old Ideal tong tool to load with. It was about all a kid could handle at the time. A cousin, who was direct in line has it now.

It drives me to drink when I'm watching an otherwise decent Western, and Cavalry troopers take cover behind rocks/logs/riverbanks, you name it....And engage the charging Apache/Comanche/Sioux or whatever other tribe of warriors you care to insert into the movie with 1892 Winchesters....Not to mention those pesky automatic, self-reloading 1873 Colt's revolvers. Love your videos and I would have no problem taking a "JM" era Marlin chambered in .45-70 hunting anything in North America with handloads. As I've said more than once in my comments, big, relatively slow, bullets make bigger holes down range. Yeah, those whiz bang, high velocity, small to medium caliber rounds have their place in the world, but if I'm going to be facing down a critter that has big teeth, claws, a thick hide, and wants to eat me the bigger the caliber the more secure I feel in my choice of hunting rifle and backup handgun. A .45-70 lever gun and a single action revolver with heavy loads would check all the boxes.

I have a tube-loading Henry Brass in 45-70. One of my favorite guns.
@anamerican481
45-70 is still the one to have 🇺🇸
@jacks520040
Well like your cartridge pick, but we all know my favorite cartridge the 7X57 Mauser is the best.😊
