Cheers, Thanks for watching! I've done this with a LOT of different tools on my channel.

For those who don't like the soft start on the Makita, it's switchable on/off. Look in the manual for how to turn it on/off. Basically 1) Saw off, set speed to 6; 2) Saw on, set speed to 1 then back to 6. Light will blink twice letting you know that soft start is disabled. When soft start is disabled the saw will blink the light twice when you turn it on to let you know. Manual says this feature is region dependent. Mine is model DJV182Z from Australia. Now if Makita only set the trigger to variable. But the 182 is still a better saw than the 180, it has much more speed and power (~1000rpm faster on the 182 brushless). Plus the brushless chews less battery.

I have the Dewalt jigsaw, haven’t used it much but when I have used it it has been great, one of the guys I work with borrowed to cut out a notch for a cavity slider handle it it cut perfect with a super fine blade with absolutely no tear out on nice finished timber, big 👍 up from me.

The nature shot was awesome. Such a beautiful backdrop. As far as a jigsaw, I still have a bosch corded one that I bought probably 15 years ago or more. I just don’t use it much anymore since I don’t do much woodworking, but I loved it when I used it. It has a blade guide that seemed like it really keep blades cutting straight. Maybe it’s just a placebo effect. 😂 I wish more companies had that blade guide.

Love my Makita tools but choose to go with the DeWalt when I needed a jig saw. It's an awesome tool and brings more to the table in actual real world use.

I have the brushed version of the makita and a corded makita. I like the corded because it has both a variable dial and trigger so allows alot of variability but i wouldnt have a jigsaw without a variable trigger

i love my Bosch 18v d handle and barrel grip, have had it for years and it has the best trigger ever ( d handle) and form factor ever, especially woth the procore batteries , imo.

Have the brushless makita and plug in Bosch for years have tried the others over the last year or so a jigsaw is for precision cuts will not be trading what I have to faster isn't always better

I mostly use my Metabo hpt/Hikoki one handed recip saw with jig saw blades. I haven't used one of my jigsaws in probably a year now!

I'm on team red, but sometimes those tools are just too damn powerful. It is not only about the beans Milwaukee! We need more control!

Hey man. Thanks for the excellent video. One slight suggestion: maybe a bit of audio tuning. When talking, i have to turn the volume up. But the tools are too loud then.

Metabo (Hikoki) sell a corded version of their entry level jigsaw that I just got. Seems to have much better power than the cordless. I rarely use it so I didn't need the cordless and now I'm glad I didn't get the battery powered version.

Is the brushed Makita good enough? Want to complete my tool collection but I rather not get the newest version since it's like double the cost. How is the 12v Makita version? I also have M12 power tools so i can get that as well.

I like my M18 Milwaukee barrel handle great power and control … blade choice is critical have you used Diablo blades ? If not try them

I guess we know why they're giving away that jigsaw free with the subcompact drill/impact kit at Lowe's here in the US...

I’m a builder and All my cordless tools are Milwaukee because I wanted to be on one platform and I must say I’m a fan! However I must say that I really dislike the jigsaw, that and the planer are big let downs compared to the rest of the range

Got an older m18 jigsaw at work and it's smooth cutting. Better than most others I've used and it's brushed.

Which do you prefer, the Dewalt or the older 18v Makita wih a brushed motor?

Make sure you are in a country where the "features" can be turned off. Read the manual in your region before purchasing.

I have both versions of the makita and i always go for the non brushed version.

You can adjust that problem you have with the makita. It's in the manual.

Couldn't agree more about the lack of variable speed trigger on the Makita, if the djv182 had this it wouldbe almost perfect IMO. I ended up downgrading from the djv182 to the djv180 recently because of this and also the soft start could be a hit or miss with thinner materials, found myself almost forcing the tool to cut so it would ramp up the speed. The djv180 doesn't cut so fast but I'm happier to have the control. Great review again.

Just sharing that Makita djv182 (and many more late models) had a configuration that we can remove the slow/soft start and go always in full speed, I believe many users don't know about that and this makes a huge difference.

I use the brushless model everyday and once the softstart is removed it is an amazibg tool

One of the only DeWalt tools which is actually very good. It doesn't look like a typical DeWalt which are usually bulky and heavy. DeWalt is still a good brand, just sometimes does not come close to the rest.

Dewilt...lots of power but don't last long in my experience. There old elu based stuff was very good though.

No Bosch or festool ? For years they’ve made the best / most accurate jigsaws. I’m still using the original Bosch jigsaw from 35 years ago with the top screwdriver blade release mechanism.

I appreciate this video is a year old so perhaps no longer monitored, however .... Any idea what thew differences are between the Makita DJV184Z at approx AUD$299 and the older Makita DJV182Z at approx AUD$382? The newer, cheaper DJV184Z seems to have a variable trigger?

The 184 is more of an entry level jigsaw with a shorter stroke so it cuts slower.

Just got the hikoki 36v jigsaw its far better built than the milwaukee and dewalt and smooth not as rough

The Metabo HPT is currently $79 on Amazon with a free battery rebate.

You can turn on the variable trigger on the Makita. Amazing because then you get the best of both worlds.

You can only turn off the Makita's slow-start in the UK/AU/NZ. I learned the hard way. My latest Festool Carvex (and being a Mafell owner, and familiar with the Carvex...lol...not impressed) just arrived because the barrel grip Makita has the dumbest power/on/off ever invented and the A mode caused me to ruin the kind of cuts you'd need a cordless jigsaw for at my job. :0

Annnnnd, I forgot just how bad the Carvex actually is. I remember fiddling with the guides. I remember having to remove the base plate anytime I wanted to eject the blade if the splinterguard was on it. I remember having to turn it on and off again a few times for it to put the pendulum in the right position so the blade eject would work. I remember having to chew up my fingers because the blade has to be turned to be inserted. I forgot however that "smooth" is not in it's lexicon. What if I have to cut thin shit? I can't with the Carvex. Bouncing all around, not wanting to stay in place. Put the Carvex on your wife's magic button and she won't leave the house for a week. I shit all over the Makita's problems, but you know what? The Makita shits all over the Festool. I'll be happy with my Makita "issues". There's always a Mafell sitting in the corner anyways.

*DEWALT @**6:55** HAS A GIANT 60 VOLT BATTERY DANGLING IN THE BACK. BATTERY WEIGHS MORE THAN THE FRONT OF THE TOOL. TOTALLY UNBALANCED TOOL. I’m pretty sure you can turn the slow start off on the makita. I have the barrel grip and in the manual it tells you how to turn off the slow start on it.

Yes,it can turn off. If i good remember holding power button and dial speef to 1 and back or something like that. Jigsaw led light will blink

Just saying the ones in the US can be turned off and on. Idk about other countries. And it looked to me like the one in this video was brand new just figured I’d throw it out there. I think you turn power button on put dial to 1 then turn it to speed 6 turn power off then back on. Or something along those lines. It’s right in my manual for my barrel grip but I like the soft start it helps me control the blade going into expensive cuts.

the makita was released in 2014 so i assume they will probably have a new model out at some point. The dewalt looked nice. I'd rather buy a corded jigsaw though as i would only ever own one in my life and i wouldn't want to be stuck with makita 18v when they eventually fully switch to 40v.

I have done in the past, but not for a long time. But I have been thinking about doing some more.

Had all Bosch electric jigsaws and all good. Then one day Bosch died half way through job only replacement at short notice Makita electric. Hated it couldn't cut straight if it tried. Went cordless and was on Metabo platform. So got one of them. Worst jigsaw I have ever had. When the adjustable foot locked up and couldn't get it free hit it with hammer broke it and launched it. I thought give the Bosch a go again. Love it. Compact, light, cuts straight. It has the variable speed trigger that is a no brainer. No stupid soft start. Does what you want with no fuss. That Dewalt does look good though.

So the old Makita is still the best with brushed motor to retain the trigger control.

I own Milwaukee DeWalt batteries.. but honestly I went with a DeWalt. I enjoy using tools, That Walt seems like a great balance with oregonomics and power. I can't stand a jigsaw that vibrates like hell

I work with the makita everyday and this jigsaw work amazing you just have to remove the softstart like everbody do. Dewalt base always come lose and change angles this is crap

I totally agree with your opinion on the Makita. But I find the barrel grip type even worse, this two button system located where you can barely reach it is flat out a dumb design. I feel like Makita ruins alot of good tools with bad design decisions. Look at their angle grinders, they look good at the first glance but they have an ancient design on the guard adjustment that always comes loose and why the hell do the variable speed ones have like an extra inch of tool length? It makes it so incredibly bulky at the rear its super annoying to use. They could have made the battery mount literally half as long or even shorter. I always liked Makita tools but they have alot of bad designs nowadays

Out of what I am familiar with (Mafell, Bosch, Festool, Makita), I agree 100 percent. The barrel grip feels so good in the hand and it has a lot of power, cuts straight going straight...is somewhat precise...but.... they went fucking bananas with that double power switch....the no load soft start broken asf and don't expect to cut intricate curves with it...there's nothing keeping that blade from moving side to side. And yeah, they updated the angle grinder guard...it's still crappier than what Metabo and Fein had going on back when I was in diapers.

The makita jigsaw is bloody annoying. Most times il get halfway through my cut before the soft start turns off. I've fkd up alot of timber by it doing that when you least expect it. I think im going to sell it and get the brushed version or the hikoki 36v.

@@misha030302 You can only turn it off on very recent models sold in very specific regions. You cannot turn it off on my model. That said, it doesn't bother to go into full gear until you made it through a cut half the time.

Disabling the soft no-load rotation function To disable the soft no-load rotation function, follow the steps below. 1. Make sure that the tool is turned off. 2. Set the speed adjusting dial to "1". 3. Press the lock/unlock button to turn on the tool. 4. Set the speed adjusting dial to "5" by turning it, and then set it to "1" by turn it back. The lamp blinks twice to indicate that the soft no-load rotation function is disabled. To enable this function again, perform the same procedure again. 􏰀 1. Lock/unlock button 2. Start/stop button Lighting up the front lamp NOTE: If the tool is left for 10 seconds without any operation in the standby mode, the tool automatically turns off and the lamp goes off. To turn on the lamp, press the lock/unlock button. To turn off the lamp, press the lock/unlock button again. Speed adjusting dial The tool speed can be adjusted by turning the speed adjusting dial. You can get the highest speed at 5 and the lowest speed at 1. Refer to the table to select the proper speed for the workpiece to be cut. However, the appropriate speed may differ with the type or thickness of the workpiece. In general, higher speeds will allow you to cut workpieces faster but the service life of the blade will be reduced.

I ad to knock the slow start off in my Makita was so annoying

10.50 dewalt and hikoki Best clean cut Wow milwauke and makita having to much vibrations and that key in milwaukee Fall of haha 😀 milwauke faster but dewalt Little slower but much cleaner cuts i prefer dewalt

Completely agree, don’t know what the fuck makita we’re thinking with ditching the variable trigger, huge mistake, and it’s biggest downfall. Also the new button trigger style on tools is god awful. Haven’t met anyone who thinks otherwise. Honestly wish I’d just bypassed the bs for the mafell or festool. In the long run the price is worthit As always a top class review. Carry on boyo ✌️

If you design a jigsaw without variable speed it’s clear you have no time using a jig saw. You always start slow and finish slow with a jigsaw. What clown was in charge of the decision to remove VS from the trigger.

I have watched some repair videos about that milwaukee jigsaw, and oh boy it is an utter garbage, tinny motor, low quality in general and almost impossible to repair.

Hikoki/Hitachi just can't make good jigsaws. I got the 36v version and it's complete rubbish not even a blower to keep the line of cut clear of saw dust.. I'm constantly having to stop and blowing the dust myself.. Not good considering how much this thing cost. I can honsetly say it's the second worse jigsaw I owned. The worse has to be the previous 2 Hitachi models.

Dewalt never Precision he jigsaw for cut but 2 m not staright you can see in rooler blades never Precision left and right.

I bought my corded Bosch in 1981 and it still works fine despite crashing a few times on concrete or other hard surfaces.
