4 Simple XR150L Upgrades To Get Off-Road Ready!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Riding season is upon us! And this season I plan to take the Honda XR150L off-roading a decent amount more, so it's time to get her ready with new adjustable brake/clutch levers, a non-slip shift pedal cover, beefy MX style foot pegs, and a new engine guard/skid plate!
I'm super pleased with how the XR150 is coming together, especially after these cheap, easy, and effective upgrades! Now all that's left before she's really off-road ready is some better tires and some more protective Barkbuster handguards. Leave comments below with any recommendations for either of those!

    The worst thing riding my new XR150L is the stock footpegs ... They're half missing! WTF? First pegs, then protection (hand guards and crash bars). Then handlebars and levers. Then engine and exhaust. ...

    It's cool to watch you get excited about your new Honda and wanting to work on it and make improvements. These days with Amazon and KZread there are so many things and people put out there for you. But sometimes you find out not all changes are right for everyone. So being fluid easy to try stuff and then maybe go back or change to something else is a good thing. That's how we have fun, learn things and improve. Keep it up! When adjusting anything on the handlebars cable related you need to move the bars all the way left to right and watch the clearance. Sometimes there is no difference sometimes significant. It's good to know when using throttle, clutch and brake in tight maneuvering. Foot pegs are a personal choice I have been using the stock normal ones for decades over the bigger wide ones because I feel the wide range of foot position while shifting my weight from all the way forward to all the way back is better than on the wide footpegs. Once you get to rough terrain and higher speed shifting your body weight all over the place is essential.

    When it comes time for an oil change you might still want to pull the skid plate off! Once the oil is flowing you'll be fine but when you first pull the plug out it'll probably splash oil back up into the skid plate. My CRF250L has a badlands racing skid plate with a similar access hole and I've ended up pulling it off everytime due to oil splashing back lol

    I believe the two nuts on the levers you should tighten each one together to stop loosing from vibration. Love the levers and skidplate . The foot pegs I originally got where slightly different I had to cut mine down but its time to get the proper ones . I am very excited for the SSShop big bore kit making this a 222cc. with 18-19 wheel hp. Transforming this bike into some kinda cheap rocket with Wile E Coyote at the helm . We need better handgards to protect those levers . Keep up the good upgrades . And Thanks .

    I did those levers in red CNC and the small crash bar from Ukraine about 9 months ago. The crash bar is way better quality than the factory plastic Honda part. I even have small LED lights mounted where the front side reflectors are located and crazy enough the reflectors even screw directly back into the lights. So far I think I actually have the most modded XR except that I don't do video vlogs so I can't post the videos. Tusk makes a nice shifter that has folding tip. Bought a full slip on exhaust for $90 as I would never pay $500 for the Yosh slip on tip. I know they are a great company but, that is ridiculous. Also add some Pro Taper risers and bars. Much more comfortable. I am disappointed the Pro Taper grips are almost worn with only 1400 miles.

    I have recently done some "academic" digging through the parts catalogues of Honda bikes and both the swingarms of XR150L and CRF150L have the brake mount anchor studs (the part of the swingarm that prevents the caliper bracket from free spinning) seem to look the same if not identical. Would you be willing to experiment with trying to fit the CRF's disc brake caliper bracket (Part No. 43190-K84-901 for the bracket, No. 43150-K84-901 for the entire rear caliper assembly) as a step to converting the XR150L's rear into disc brakes?

    I just got these levers and installed them. The tab on the brake lever doesnt reach the brake light switch. So your brake light might not be coming on when youre braking. Super dangerous. I had to wrap tape around the tab until it reached the brake light switch. Also, my clutch lever didnt fit the housing properly and left the cable too tight. Mine look exactly the same as yours... maybe I got a bad pair? Did you notice that the brake lever tab didnt reach the switch?

    Ok, something you haven't addressed yet, which I hope you will, as I am about to buy a bike with similar tyres... what tyre would you get for better off road-ability without making it dangerous ON road. also, hand guards that work, attach to, and protect the bar ends and provide a more solid protection from stray branches... all the factory things do is reduce the wind and cold! Annnnd Then you mention both of these at the end of the vid lol

    Best mod todo would be selling it and buying a used crf250l. For what you get in return, these bikes are not work modding much. Same for the 250l or 300l. The benefit of these bikes is that the way they are they simply won't die and will perform. I am not saying that it is not worth buying. But if you are performance oriented just upgrading to even a used 250l would be my recommendation.

  • @LifeOfBurch

    @LifeOfBurch

    2 ай бұрын

    Definitely takes some getting used to, but as long as you make sure you switch the petcock out of reserve after you fill up you’ll be good. Once the gas gets low enough to have to switch to reserve, you still have plenty gas to make it to a gas station. Plus, you can reset the trip meter after every fill up, and then I just keep an eye on things once the trip meter gets back to like 150-160 miles or so.
