You honestly could tell that guy was probably a narcissist when he, unlike so many other people who are genuine rehabilitated criminals, didn't take responsibility for his actions and tried to distance himself from them when he spoke about what happened: "he got hit with on the head the gun" (instead of "I hit him with the gun") or "unfortunately she got cauight up in the situation..." or "they robbed her" (i.e. the people he was robbing with, trying to make it seem like they hurt the girl but not him... come on...). Unlike people who aren't guilty, he knows he's guilty yet he still tries to distance himself from his actions, and that's classic narccissim mantra, a.k.a The narcissit's prayer: That didn't happen. And if it did, it wasn't that bad. And if it was, that's not a big deal. And if it is, that's not my fault. And if it was, I didn't mean it. And if I did, you deserved it.

This is definitely helpful. When I used to watch podcasts more religiously, I got hints when the guest was not a useful source of information and I treated as such, but it's good to get concrete signs to look for.

This is hitting hard. I dated someone with a personality disorder, ADHD and anxiety disorder, and it got to the point where I couldn't get my needs met in the relationship and I wasn't allowed to have expectations, because it would be, idk, unfair? I went on to therapy and they went on to date my friend. I'm happy I chose that it wasn't the right relationship for me. If one has issues that prevent them from being in a healthy relationship, they should work on them or not be in a relationship. It's okay to not me mentally well, it doesn't make anyone bad, but it also doesn't mean another person should sacrifice their life for their comfort. That would just enable dysfunction. Great video Charlie! ✨ We need to live for ourselves!

Excellent post. As someone with major depressive disorder, it is still my responsibility to make an earnest effort to be reciprocal and giving. If I can’t do that, I shouldn’t be in a relationship. It’s very simple. Having a mental illness does not grant you special privileges that are just naked self-interest

That guys was absolutely the least believable ex con that Josh brought onto Joe's show. I got that vibe when he was talking that there was so much he was leaving out that incriminated him

That's how I originally saw this story. It's good that other people are covering it. Especially from an angle to learning and self improvement. Shawn was basically going after the programs that defends these kinds of people, but that won't solve anything. Only increase the culture war divide.

The amazing thing was he did the same thing when describing how he came back into the real world. He couldn’t just say that he was done with the life and regretted it, he had to throw in a humble brag about how it was “better” for the new crews without him and he was essentially forced out because they would be threatened by him.

His dishonesty was pretty telling when he was even downplaying the crime his son committed. Dude said “he got in a fight with an Asian guy and the guy ran in the street and died.” What actually happened was that his son and his son’s friends were trying to rob an “Asian guy”, who happened to be a genius grad student, who was hit by oncoming traffic when he tried to flee while being disoriented from a physical assault. Describing such an event by downplaying the victim and his life’s contributions, downplaying the premeditation and nature of the event/its perpetrators, and essentially describing the death as an unfortunate side effect of an otherwise equal fault interaction is classic manipulation. Joe Rogan basically did 0 research and let him just tell the stories that he concocted over the course of decades in prison, that paint him in the best possible light and minimize all of his criminal choices. Dude couldn’t even say that he was done with the life without the humble bragging that he was essentially “forced” out because he was too good at his job and was a threat to the active crews

Guys obviously the real problem is the lack of entitlement. What we need is more rhetoric about how helpless and put upon Sheldon is. If only people would have given him more airtime to pontificate on his victimhood, this never would have happened.

I actually did the same thing but it was Josh Dubin that I felt was being more manipulative. I knew the kind of person Sheldon was as soon as he opened his mouth, it was Josh that I had the problem with… he hides behind this virtuous mask of protecting people who have been wronged by the justice system. After listening to him clearly & blatantly manipulating everyone listening to him I had to tune out, it was just to much. Rogan needs to do a better job at vetting people before they come on his pod.

I have tried to watch a couple of episodes with Josh - and about 15-20 min in, I've stopped, because he just complete rubs me the wrong way. It's not even, necessarily, that I object to what he's saying. I just can't stand listening to him.

IMO, his body language and tonality was well put together, overall calm and level headed. It's only when I analyzed his verbals and statements about his story that there were inconsistencies, also thanks to the other guy who's a defense lawyer overselling him that alone made me more suspicious. Also it maybe profiling but his white T-Shirt with the logo of QUEENS DEFENDERS, and why he'd deliberately chooses to wear that T-shirt is a bit out of place. In terms of body language and tone, what may have set off some alarm bells intuitively for me, is those micro shrugs and too much mouth shrugging around events that led to his arrest, and events of criminality, and events where he's ascribing morality of himself(these are also called epistemic shrugs as these are non-verbal tells of the subconscious. Typically meaning I don't know, got nothing to add' or feeling uncertainty, feeling unsure to continue or unsure how to respond') now here I'd disagree with Charlie if we're treating these shrugs as a confident sign of deception and manipulation. EVERYONE HAS TO ESTABLISH BASELINE! Just shrugging alone itself is not strong indication of deception and manipulation and deflecting, it's just a signaling of feeling unsure, uncertainty, and feeling you have nothing to add to the story or statements made, that's all. You all have to carefully establish baseline and contextualize otherwise it's the same old problem of jumping to a conclusion of it's definite deception when it's just feeling uncertainty and nothing to add to a story/statements. Being honest even I had a bit of a difficult time establishing his baseline as this is the only footage I've seen and initially he carried himself very well and is quite calm, too calm, but what I can say is the moments of him shrugging when he's making affirmative claims, when he says 'I need the money.' does mouth shrugging, a little bit of shoulder shrugging, AND head shaking(in western cultures head shaking means thinking/feeling disagreeable, distant, defensive, disapproval, disappointment, basically a feeling of refusal of who/what's causing you some uncomfortableness.) THAT'S in terms of body language analysis is when I strongly felt there's more to the story, that he's withholding key details.

Severe poverty can lead to crime, true. What the poor neighbors in the States experience is nothing related to that. It's freeing to call the horse a horse. Only there we can start building up. I lived poverty, well beyond what any low income place of today can imagine, and there was no crime of any kind. In fact it was so rare, we never knew where the prisons were in those cities. We're talking about taking responsibility? Facing responsibility is hard but crucial to fixing the situation. First you shouldn't be ashamed to look at the problem without the blinders on. On ground research and identification. No tainted books of popular opinions that lead to ignorance

this is my first time watching your video on this but i feel like you're going to mention someone using language that removes their role in actions, this guy on rogans interview was using all kinds of phrases like "she got caught up in it" and crap like that whenever something he was responsible for happened

Just because that guy got convicted doesn’t mean everything he’s saying is right. If you think you can tell whether someone’s telling the truth by the way the talk or carry themselves then you’ve already lost the plot. Listen to your gut but don’t let that confirm anything 100%. Don’t let emotion cloud your judgement. Be aware something doesn’t add up but don’t assume anything you don’t know.

if someone is speaking of their emotions, speaking of others emotions, trying to figure out your emotions or dictate others emotions. its all manipulation. lets discuss undeniable observations rather than abstract impositions

There's a reason why you can't make that face (the "manipulator" expression of displeasure in the beginning of your example video). The problem with that is that you were taught to only express agreeable body language your entire life, even in cases when it's beneficial for you to show truthfulness, yet in a deterring way. I actually can say that I can only envision you making one single face of disagreement (in every adversary situation of any kind, rather serious, severe or somewhat unleasant) I'd be surprised to see you accurately relating disagreement in the proper situation. This is sometime I noticed in 85% of the people when encountering your group of peers.(And I'm being generous. It's closer to 95%) Negativity, disagreement and disappointment must be related very correctly in order to have have abundant social access, friends and great communication. If you can master that, life becomes extremely smooth and headache free.
