4 officers killed, 4 injured in Charlotte, NC ambush attack
Three law enforcement officers serving on a U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force and one Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer were killed Monday after being met with “active gunfire” from a suspect inside an east Charlotte home. A total of eight law enforcement officers were shot, including three CMPD officers and one officer from the task force who were injured.
The officers were serving together on a U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force when they were shot while confronting a suspect inside a home on Galway Drive. The officers were rushed to the hospital. Three task force officers were pronounced dead at the hospital. One of the injured CMPD officers "fought for his life for several hours before succumbing to his injuries," CMPD confirmed.
The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction confirmed to WCNC Charlotte that two of the killed officers were probation officers on a full-time task force with the U.S. Marshals.
Joshua Eyer was identified as the CMPD officer who died on Monday night. Eyer worked with CMPD's North Tryon Division for six years. The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction identified Sam Poloche and Alden Elliott as two of the other killed officers. Both Poloche and Elliott were 14-year veterans of the agency.
Officers were attempting to serve a warrant on Terry Clark Hughes, Jr., 39, for a possession of a firearm by a felon charge and two counts of felony flee to elude out of Lincoln County, North Carolina.
Officers were shot when approaching the home, according to CMPD. Officers shot back at Hughes, who was killed at the scene.
The CMPD SWAT team and MEDIC's mass casualty unit were among those who responded to the shooting scene. After officers shot Hughes, SWAT negotiated with the others inside the home.
Two people found inside the home were questioned by police. CMPD has not said if they will face any charges. #Crime #News

They need to change the policy of raiding homes. Although cops feel cool when they get to do this it really puts everyone in more danger. This man shouldn’t have even been out on the streets with his history. The judicial system failed these officers.

@@mr.isaiah1275There is much more to this story than we are being told. Between the number of personal and show of force they knew it could turn into a battle. Serving a warrant with a SWAT team is not a common way of serving a warrant. We should all be asking why this guy was on the streets in the first place if he was so dangerous that they needed this many law enforcement officers to serve a warrant. We won't ever be told the real story. It's just tragic 😢

Can someone please elaborate what happened? From what I’m getting is the police served a warrant and where shot bye someone else in the house? Was this a no knock raid or something or did the police just go into a house full of people who hate them? I never heard of cops serving a warrant and then getting shot at by other occupants of the house.
years back i heard ex Texas DPS / DEA assistant Barry Cooper talk about police related raids....95% are completely unnecessary while 99% of the swat type raids are overkill...Just like the overkill back in 93's with the Waco ATF raid (leading up to the OKC bombing) they called the local media to tag along, and then had a huge number of armed officer for one simple possession of dangerous weapons charge (for wish they forgot to bring the lawful warrant, and also didn't investigate that the group were weapons whole-sellers with proper ATF paperwork(they never disclosed that till outside groups later investigated)....this guy would have been arrested a million other safe ways...from what post are reporting online they guy works daily etc...can they not arrest him safely as he walks into work or something? no need for the gung-ho behaviors ,....not sticking up for the killer - but we all know deescalation should be taught as much as the 47 ways to kick in a door
