I love Amalia's response when Rick asks, "What is Mole?"

Mole is a sauce it’s a staple for Mexican culture. It usually goes over chicken.
There's a lot of good Mexican food outside of Portland in the suburbs (which is often overlooked) where most of us Latinos in the state reside.

When Rick led off with Tierra del Sol, I knew this would be an A-tier roundup! Their Tlayuda is absolutely the perfect warm-weather dish! If you are downtown, the owner of Las Cazuelas (food truck) reminds me so much of Amelia. She makes delicious Birria, and her tamales ALWAYS sell out (only available two days a week, but if you're nice, she'll set some aside for you)!
Amalia is both so thoughtful and savvy to make a vegetarian mole

Been watching Portlandia so the b roll of the “keep Portland weird” sign really got me 😂

Considering the origin of the slogan, the meaning behind it is ironic. Also, I love living in Portland but the words on the back of the club are very unassuming. Don’t visit it if you want keep the same feeling about it.
Tierra del Sol is fantastic - I'm glad you enjoyed your time in PDX!
I live in Portland and I'm taking notes!
Absolutely delightful and a wonderful way to showcase passion filled food - from food truck to traditional restaurant setting. Thank YOU Rick and crew for bringing us along!
Welcome to the Northwest, Rick! Thank you for showing us these gems! Absolutely will search them out next time I'm in Portland 😋
Would happily watch hours of this!! Rick, you are such a kind presenter and highlighted these people and their food in a captivating way. Can’t wait to see more!
I think you're amazing when I watch your videos of you cooking. But I think what you did today was extremely special, original and entertaining in the best way possible! Thank you for sharing.
I live down the street from the mercado. It is just this awesome! Thanks for putting a good spin on Portland food!
Great episode Rick, I gotta get back there to try that soup, it looked amazing! 💜🌲💜
Thank you so much for showing Portland’s best Mexican food. Gracias Senior!
My guy at the end! He is such a great chef, I’ve been a huge fan of his work and restaurants for a long time. I always support his places. His food is Culture, history and all!
Great segment of Portland food culture. I always enjoy seeing your delivery of great foods.
Thanks, Rick, for showing that Mexican is a Cuisine rather than stereotyped fast food.
This was an amazing video. We are up in Portland once or twice a year, we will definitely check these places out!! I’d watch a travel series with Rick showcasing restaurants all over the US. COME TO PHOENIX NEXT!!

Ive eaten at 2 of the 4. Both were the food trucks on Foster. Great food and friendly people.
I miss home! I never realized how great Mexican food there is in both Vancouver WA and Portland OR
Great show as always Rick, thank you. Haven't been to Portland in years but that has to change!
Ricky great video! Thank you so much 🙏!! I'm so lucky to live in one of the best foodie cities on the planet. Thanks for featuring these terrific Mexican eateries.
What a great idea for a series! These places look absolutely delicious.

Rick in my city! This was so fun and all of the conversations were so thoughtful.
Thank you for highlighting some great food. I am looking forward to eating my wag through this list
When I lived in Portland, nothing beat the burritos and tamales at La Jarochita. I visit Portland a few times a year and I always take back a few burritos from La Jarochita, they're just too good.
❤❤❤🎉❤🎉 This is great Rick !
Great video. Gracias.
Wonderful!!!
That second to last spot is definitely my jam!! Hoooly
I’m drooling 🤤 every time Rick takes a bites. This is torture…but I love it 🥰. Thx Rick for sharing and for me to move to Portland
Thanks, Rick. Many Californians who moved to Oregon say, "There's no good Mexican food in Portland!" So thank you for shining a spotlight on some of the people making great food in our city.

Our food is so incredibly diverse. Food is love reminded me of Like Water for Chocolate 😊 Moved to Portland from SF two years ago and there are more Mexican vegan and vegetarian options here. Buen provecho!🥰

We had our anniversary dinner at Republica this past February and it was a phenomenal experience, best mole I've ever tasted.
I been in Portland all my life, Las Islas Marias on 82nd. My favourite Reustarant ever!!
It was an honor to work with Chef Juan back in the days we go way back.
Rick!! Papacito ✨
Amalia deserves her own show too. She is amazing!

Republica is amazing.
I saw Choco for a split second. I'm so happy.
My first choices: #1 and the Burger ... and the dessert 😄🤤
If you're in southeast PDX, go to Taqueria Taco Ramos. Her huaraches will make u cry. Sra Ramos has borrego and carne de chivo too! There's also secret pupusa shack out here, but I'm not gonna tell you about it. It's secret.

hahaha! Is it Pupuseria Migueleña? That's the only one I have been to. Good, but other stuff like beans and rice not so good. The platanos and empanadas are yummy.
I need to go to Güero-it’s not that far from here. Love a good torts.
This is the first time I've been this early in the comments section hahahhah Great video as always! Rick is a DREAM
Hahahah I watched a version of this this morning very early before they added subtitles - so confused to see it posted again until the subtitles appeared!
Moved from Seattle to OKC in 2011 and love it here, great food and great people despite the politics of the state. I miss the PNW but not the weather!!!!
I would love to see a collab between Sweet Heat and Tasting History. Rick and Max could cook amazing food while showing how these things came to be through history. A lot of history, a lot of cooking, and a WHOLE lot of 2 of my favorite YTers. Thumb up if you want something like this to happen, thumb down if you think it's a bad idea. (Bring in Sohla and Townsend, and that would make for a whole LOT of fun!) I'm sure others have their favorite regional or historical cooks, and collabs are fun
Can we just talk about how much style Rick Martinez has my God I need this man's closet 😍
For more great Oaxacan food in portland proper - try Loncheria Los Mayas
Best Mexican food in Portland is found East of the 205
No better place for awesome food cart/truck dishes than Portland. Don't bother with sit-down restaurants. It's the food trucks that slap.
Please visit Providence RI or Poughkeepsie NY - we have great Mexican food!
COME TO TUCSON!!!
HEY that looked like Powell Butte!
I’ve eaten in many different cities, I think Portland has the best food. I miss Andy Rickers Pok Pok though
Bon Appetit recently did a whole video highlighting Chef Angel and Republica, with him showing us what a day in the restaurant is like. It was really well done.
LOL if you come to Portland and you don't visit "Los Puńales Taqueria" you are missing something really good.
La Pulga is the REAL "Portland Mercado" and center of Mexican culture in Portland.

Chicago's Mexican food scene. From Rick Bayless to the dingiest taqueria in the worst neighborhood. Lemme tell you. Those taquerias are incredible. Been in quite a few. Nothing but Abuelas and Tias cooking.
