What do you think would happen if you put top dressing or compost in it for the lawn?

I think as long as its the same consistency as horse shavings and it's not something stringy like hay or straw it will work fine depending on what you are looking to do. As long as it is a loose material it should spread fine but I haven't tested that personally.

Glad you enjoyed! I bought mine directly from newerspreader.com. I called their number and placed the order over the phone. Their customer service was great.

Would this have a problem with sand? Or wood chips?

I think it could do wood chips ok since it’s similar to horse shavings but I have not tried it so I can’t guarantee that. It’s mainly things that are stringy that cause an issue bc they get wrapped around the agitator and then it can’t spin. My only other concern would be the weight where the agitator couldn’t spin and the opening at the bottom would probably just let the sand pour out. Honestly, I probably wouldn’t buy this item specifically if that’s what you are looking to spread.
