Excellent content from Tim Spector, as usual. I'd like to add that strength training will reduce sarcopenia, the natural wasting away of skeletal muscle. How Big food and even the medical establishment views nutrition really needs to change.

I've never trusted counting calories because the definition of a calorie is woefully inadequate. 1 Calorie is the energy required to raise the temperature of 1 liter of water 1 degree Celsius. Ok, so what is 2 Calories? Is it what is required to raise 2 liters of water 2 degrees? 1 liter of water 2 degrees? Or 2 liters of water 1 degree? It seems to me that without that specification it's little more than a guess and not to be trusted.

You are right to not trust calories but my reason is different. 2 Calories (KCal) raises 1 litre of water 2°C, or 2 litres by 1°C, so not a guess. Food Calories were calculated by burning stuff in a bomb calorimeter, measuring heat produced, we humans are not bomb calorimeters, but much more complex.
