4.6L VS 5.4L-MISTAKES WERE MADE! HOW TO ADD A VORTECH SUPERCHARGER TO FORD 4.6L 2V & 5.4L 4V MOTOR!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

WHICH ONE MAKES MORE POWER, 4.6L VS 5.4L? HOW MUCH POWER IS A VORTECH SUPERCHARGER WORTH? CAN I RUN BOOST ON MY 4.6L 2V MOTOR? CAN I SUPERCHARGED THE 5.4L 4V NAVIGATOR MOTOR? IS A 4-VALVE MOTOR BETTER THAN A 2-VALVE MOTOR? SHOULD I MODIFY THE MOTOR BEFORE ADDING BOOST? HOW MUCH ARE CAMS WORTH ON A SUPERCHARGED MOD MOTOR? CHECK OUT THIS VIDEO WHERE I RAN A FIRST MODIFIED A 4.6L 2V NON-PI MOTOR WITH PORTED PI HEADS, COMP CAMS AND PI INTAKE, THEN ADDED AN INTERCOOLED VORTECH SUPERCHARGER. ALSO INCLUDED AS A TEST WHERE I ADDED A VORTECH SUPERCHARGER TO A MODIFIED 5.4L 4V MOTOR, THEN TESTED WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU ADD ICE WATER TO THE INTERCOOLER.

    Richard, was this 4.6 a stock bottom end? Internet myth claims those motors don't like going beyond 500whp before eating pistons and rods. I personally think it's ring gap and tuning that are at the core of that problem but always love to see these examples that push the envelope a bit like your big bang experiments.

  • @wyattyeary8050

    these are numbers at the flywheel. add drivetrain loss etc. a 500 whp 4.6 is likely making 20% more than that at the flywheel. I don't see a few pulls on the dyno causing it to spit its guts out.

  • @gollumthewicked

    @gollumthewicked

    Жыл бұрын

    @@wyattyeary8050 I'm fully aware. I'm also aware of a few blown 4.6s at 430-450whp and a few choice examples claiming 550whp. The real "limit" is illusive but Richards numbers are knocking on the upper end of what people consider the "practical limit". Personally I think it's about 650-700 crank lb-ft of torque that's the limit, which with factory heads might end up being 500-ish whp. Improve the breathing and you can reach a bit higher in RPM and get better peak numbers.

  • @banneddamn

    @banneddamn

    Rods are the real weak point. Might make some power (500+) for a little bit, like a few dyno pulls, some pulls on the streets etc. But it's on borrowed time. The there is no getting around it. No amount of tuning will make a rod any stronger. In the real world they won't last long. They will bend/break and it's been proven many times.

    @@banneddamn rods don't reach their mechanical limit at a HP level though, but torque. The question is, when people bend rods at greater than 500whp, what torque were they producing? I'd also be curious how many bent rods were on manuals vs autos, as it could also be torque vs applied resistance (load). Autos are "softer" on engines, generally.

    You already know about them, nobody here is wondering how boring an engine that gives up low speed power, for efficiency, would do on the dyno, plus, the are inherently small, usually coupled to a motor/generator, and not a platform that is plausible for power gains, because their intent, from conception, is the opposite. The Miller cycle engine is as close as you are going to get.
