have Darcy Ward on the podcast, saw him ride speedway in california when i was also racing as a kid and he was the only non american to pick up small american speedway tracks like he did. Shame he had a career ending incident in league racing in Poland. A literal legend. DW43

Speedway riders are fucking CRAZY! I'm a former "A grade" motocross racer that later moved to Sprint Car racing. I got the chance to ride a speedway bike once. Having the background I had, I thought I would be hot shit and just hammer the thing. Boy was I mistaken. I could barely get the thing to slide and every time it started to step out, I shit myself and got out of the throttle. Hands down the hardest bike I have ever ridden. These guys make it look so easy when they slide into a corner. I can guarantee you, ITS NOT!!!!! Its a challenge to ride them PERIOD. To ride them at anything that resembles race speed with 3 other maniacs is mind boggling. Mad respect for these gladiators.

We had a speedway track beside the MX track I trained/raced on as a kid. We used to get to spin some laps on the track, but on our MX bixes. I spent so much time going sideways that to this day I can still only go fast on flat corners - and sideways of course. I had no idea how crazy this racing really was until this video. Love to see one in person one day.

Speedway is in my opinion the coolest motorcycle racing. Its like ice oval snowmobile racing. And it’s crazy that even I (a huge fan since I was little and had a toy speedway bike) know barely anything about it.
