These are so helpful! Especially now with ny senior design project. I haven’t used AutoCAD in a while and these come in so handy. Thank you!
I love your tutorials! Thank you for speaking and explaining instead of just playing music and having us watch! Also, thank you for going into so much technical detail!!!!!

Totally agreed. I love how he explains why he's doing what he's doing. I can't stand the tutorials where you just watch while they play music. I've learned so much from SourceCAD tutorials.
Very neatly explained. thank you so much.

For all those who are facing problem while sweep, here is the solution 1. Select Sweep 2. Change Mode to Surface. 3. Select the object to be Sweep (In this case the thread triangle) and press Enter. 4. Now before selecting the path click on "Alignment" and select "NO". 5. Now select the Sweep Path. and there you go!!!!!

You can email me if you want. Citing above condition I have removed your comment containing link of technical drawing.

What program did you use to render the bolt and nut as shown in the initial frame of the video?
@sourcecad

Its Keyshot Jakob
You should make a copy of the screw and make a substraction between the screw and the unfinished nut. You'd have a complete thread nut.

Can you please tell me how did you find fillet radius for bolt head?(At 05:48 in video why did you take it 2 units?)
@sourcecad
8 жыл бұрын
There are some assumptions made in this video and the radius in this case is also selected at random
Thank You very much, sir, for such an organized and informative video. 1thing I must correct that on 1:32 0r on 1:33 minute you have mentioned to turned on OSNAP, Sorry sir ! as per my knowledge that is Polar tracking and in that increment angle must be set at 30 degrees. I know that this mistake has been done unknowingly. Your content is excellent.
Sir I have not cleared section command in AutoCAD 3d so can you explain this.
Please, Jaiprakash! Explain. 1. Why do you put the triangle's vertex on the tip of the helix but not the geometric center of the triangle in the same place? 2. Thread is one but we patch triangles twice on the bottom and on the top separately, why?!
Nice
You should add transcripts so we can correctly understand all your instructions clearly.
I don't know why, but when I sweep the triangle and the helix, it turns inwards. But the triangle is still on place, as I placed it like you did. Any idea why? Great video!!

Hello, As always very useful video for learning AutoCAD. The part of making a thread of the bolt is OK but as soon as I start making the body the bolt, the cursor lags (slows down a lot) on it. Can you please share what specs of the machine you are using for CAD? I have a HP Omen Laptop with core i7, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 1 TB HDD, NVIDIA GTX 1060 (6GB) dedicated. I purposely purchased it for lag free CAD file but still, I am facing the lag issue. Looking to have your expert advice. Regards.
@sourcecad
5 жыл бұрын
Hi Mohsin, Your PC specs are great for most of the parametric software let alone AutoCAD. The threads are generally heavy on any kind of CAD software and to counter this almost every software has a "cosmetic" thread option which can be added in the layout view of AutoCAD. The same thing is true for AutoCAD as well. The thread was not at all required if you were to make an actual bolt, you can just add thread specs on the layout. But in this case, we made thread anyways in model space and the performance of AutoCAD was similar for me too. Still, you can just check a few things to improve performance but that won't guarantee a lag-free performance as these kinds of shapes tend to be heavy but might improve performace. 1. Turn hardware acceleration ON, use command 3DCONFIG for this. 2. Check that your software is using NVIDIA and not the default Intel integrated graphics, again you can check this using 3DCONFIG command 3. Disable other programmes consuming heavy resources of your PC. Hope it helps, feel free to share your feedback.

I wish to know why first you created a surface model then you converted into solid model in making BOLT. Otherwise it is excellent tutorial Sir. Thank for giving excellent explanation.
@sourcecad
8 жыл бұрын
If you would have tried it with 3D modelling tools instead of surface tools then the orientation of thread does not remain parallel to the 2D geometry drawn and hence there is acute loss of accuracy. You can see in this video what I mean kzread.info/dash/bejne/eZuc0MSkmdKamMo.html here I have used 3D modelling tools for thread instead of surface tool
@kandasamyrajan

Sir I wish to know whether the difference is visible. That means straight away going to solid modeling and going to solid modeling through surface modeling.
very very nice but will nut and bolt move as physical objects
@sourcecad

No likely as there is no tolerance allowed between threads of nut and bolt

They may move if provided correct tolerance.
can you post a video that explains how to subtract from the nut In order to 3d print this and it function please.
@sourcecad
8 жыл бұрын
For 3D printing a 3D model you need to convert it to .STL format which can be done by export command of AutoCAD. Moreover I am not well aware of 3D printing so it might not be possible for me to help you Matt in this regard :(
@mystro5286

I mean the tolerance between the thread of the bolt to the nut. I am having a problem getting the drawing where in reality they will thread together
@sourcecad
8 жыл бұрын
If you take reference of this 3D model then there is no thread inside bolt which is practically incorrect, these 3D drawings are for practicing 3D AutoCAD tools and I have ignored accuracy to simplify these drawings and hence it cant be used to create physical component (in your case these models cant be used for 3D printing). I suggest you to get manufacturing drawings of any nut and Bolt and make drawing as per dimensions provided there.
I hate to nitpick, but your bolt is not M8. It's closer to M10. You placed the thread form on the outside diameter which is 8. the top of the thread form (narrow end) needs to be level with the OD. Just saying. I enjoyed the drawing exercise though, very helpful. Thanks :)
@sourcecad

Pablo668 I agree with you Pablo its good to know that you enjoyed this video, I wish to point out that its not even M10 because in that case the pitch should have been 1.5, Actually the bolt is not accurate as per ANSI standards If you will explore video you will notice anomaly in head of bolt as well :) this video is intended to give a general idea of modelling Bolt using AutoCAD and calculations have been taken approximately and wherever possible I have tried to avoid values containing decimals to keep drawing easy to understand and hence many details have been omitted/edited. Hope Its a plausible explanation.

I pretty much thought that was what you were doing. No harm no foul. I'm just sitting here going through your lessons to brush up, I may end up studying this soon, just to get the piece of paper, even though I've been doing this for years. It's all very handy. I am using a Mac version of 2014 though, makes things a bit challenging.

If you explode the geometry then the sweep profile can't be made as it can only be done with a closed object.
