Hi Lee and Shannon . The blue on the grill shell reminds me of the daphnie blue Fender guitar colour. Really like the red engine and wheel colour choice. Shannon , when I was really young my Dad had '56 Mercury 2 door . It was black and orange in colour . Don't know if it exists anymore but if it did , I so wish you were the present owner . The orange and black were factory colours . Great timing with the video now it's almost time for the weekly call to my big brother . Will be great to see the body back on the frame of the '32 . Have a great week.

I had no idea I’d use it so much. I really like how stubby it is, fits in lots of tight places.
So now we know why the previous owner had the steering stabilizer on it. The shorter wishbones reduced the caster. More caster definitely improves stability.

Good point! Never considered that
Hello Lee. When I did my 32 I cut the ends of the spindles down. Quite easy with a cutoff disc in an angle grinder. I then drilled a new cotter pin hole with a hand drill. Easy job and the neatest result. I used the flatter nuts and not very deep dust covers. I have 39 wide 5s on mine but that does not make a difference. Good call on the wishbones and the softly softly approach to leaf removal is the best policy. Mart in England.

Yea I think that’s the easiest solution too. I can’t remember what I did on my model a. It has 40 hubs with the screw on dust caps, same as your wide 5 hubs would have.

@@LGKustoms Lee, I showed cutting the spindles in a video but I can't find it! Lol. if it helps at all I cut them off with just a trace of the old cotter pin hole showing at the ends. I found it easier to drill the new cotter pin hole straight down starting in the keyway slot.

@@LGKustoms An old Sheffield-made one I hope, engineered for a lifetime's hard service. I've got a real weakness for those. Just can't resist when I see one for sale. I have about a dozen so far, mostly the larger QR ones. Great vids by the way. I'd always wondered how axles were dropped and now I know. You have the skill, experience and confidence to make it all look easy - which I'm sure it's not! That Tudor is going to be a very fine hot rod indeed and a real credit to you. Measurements on my stock bodied '32 Roadster HOOD are: 32 1/8" across middle/top; 33 1/4" at the bend where the top hood turns down and finally 32 3/4" across hood bottom. Add a bit for hood clearance when closed and you should be good to go.

I have been really enjoying your 32 build. It is giving me some motivation and inspiration to get going in my 36 ford five window coupe. I have a couple other projects in front of the coupe but I can watch for parts. Also going to be building a 64 ranchero so watching the comet build has been interesting. The ranchero had a three speed column shift but will be getting a five speed with a 200 in-line six.

The Deuce is coming along nicely Lee ! For stance I'd use a 7.50-16 tire on a narrow 5-6" rim on the rear instead of what looks to be a short/wide 8.20-15. Lower the rear a little and It'll fill up the wheel arch nicely and also give you a different height for a little rake front to back. Then fine tune the front with spring/tire OD/wheel size when all the weight is on the car. Keep em comin' brother !

Dumb question, what are the pros/cons of split wishbones? Really enjoying your vlog by the way.
@LGKustoms
Ай бұрын
Really the only pro of split wishbones is they give you more clearance for different engine and transmission combos. Otherwise they work way better if you can keep them together. When split, they bind when one wheel goes over a bump and the other wheel does not. When they stay together, they will pivot on the ball when only one wheel goes over the bump. Of course this all in theory, and in the real world the binding is usually absorbed throughout the suspension and not really noticeable with normal driving.
You have all Winterr to finish the '32.

I'm learning a lot in this series, thank you so much for documenting it! Is it possible that the old splice in the frame in the front resulted in the front crossmember being just a bit closer to the rear than original? I'm wondering if that's why your hood isn't fitting. I really like the blue you're thinking of, it will look great with the roof chop and stance. Funny, I was saying to you on the TV "take out 3 leaves!" , and then you did and the stance looks great now!
@LGKustoms
Жыл бұрын
The measurements from the K member to the crossmember are bang on with factory 32 ford dimensions. I think the hood is off because the radiator isn’t sitting right, and firewall isn’t bolted down tight. I’ll have to set the body back on and properly set up the radiator.

I could not find a contact message on your website, so my question is what is the horizontal dimension from mount hole to mount hole on the SBC motor mount and how high is the foot mount flange above the crank centerline? Thanks R L
@LGKustoms
5 ай бұрын
Hi! Mount hole to mount hole is 20” center to center (same as 35-48 ford car and 35-53 Ford truck) and the foot mount flange is approximately 2” above the crankshaft center line. The positions the Chevrolet crank roughly in the same spot as a flathead crankshaft.

Thanks Lee, I think it will work on my application, how high is the crank CL above the top of the frame rails ?
What year motor and transmission ?
@LGKustoms
Жыл бұрын
The engine is an 8BA, so anywhere between 1949 and 54. The transmission is a top loader three speed used in cars from 37-39 and light trucks from 37-52.
The old timers made hot rodding look easy and didn't seem like it took them long to build a car. I myself know how i want to build my car and have most parts but not every thing. I am trying to get started by getting my Ford 302 built for my 32 frame and 30-31 Model A coupe body. My problem is I can't weld or have hands on experience. So my stuff just sits. I talk to a street rod guy and wants 5000 down before he would start on the project which also kind of discourages me from getting the ball a rolling. I am lost life sucks no money especially with all the money I got into my project and it's not even started.

@@LGKustomsMy 32 Frame has already been boxed and the cross members and is set up for coil overs in the back and I am running a 4" dropped straight axle which has been all assembled with disc brakes the problem is I need the tabs welded onto the frame for the radius rods and I need tabs welded on to the 8" Ford rear and tabs welded onto the frame to run my 4 link setup which I have all the hardware and tabs to weld on frame and rear end so. I did look up the measurements on Google for the 4 link setup and coil overs so I could mark it where they are supposed to be then take the frame to a welding shop down town. I was thinking about that but then I am kind worried they could slightly mess it up so to the fact they don't have a jig to keep things straight.
