Plan A is my vote
Since you asked. I think plan B is your best option. For the simple reason that you intend to drive the crap out of it. Then when you get road rash and other boo boos you can make repairs easier.jmho.😊
Personally I'd go plan B. Filler is a magnet for corrosion in a wet environment. Thank you for the video, I appreciate you!

Plan B Lee !
I think you want to do a nice job. As much as you say it’s just going to be an old hot rod I know you take pride in your work. This is a car you searched hard for so make it worthwhile.

Option B
I think I would use several heavy coats of primer builder (slick sand) and sand it one time and focus on the outside of the frame when sanding and then semi gloss it with a paint that has hardener in it. Since you have decided to run fenders most of the frame will never be visible and it would be lots of block sanding for something you don't see much of.

Plan a then enjoy it, back in the day at least the way I understand it guys made it as nice as they could do and afford then used them.
Plan A!!!
I think plan A....That way You can't kick Yourself down the road; wishing You would have done it .Just takes some time and energy and not too much money..As long as I doesn't make You crazy if it gets a ding....I love that You drive Your cars no matter what the weather is

A cars purpose is to drive us places!
Plan B , all day long!!!
as a bodyman for 45 years, plan a always looks nice and is correct. plan b makes sence for a driver car. But! your building a 32 ford! maybe not a show car but still a 32 ford. id address the pits and side rails cause there seen when car is together. several coats of epoxy primer, wet sand. seal and paint your color. it`ll look nice and you`ll be happy. congrates on being in the magazine. your doing good Lee and a great shop!

Plan A is what I would do, keep some of the paint for spot repairs
Normally plan B for a daily driver. However, you have done so much extra nice work already that you may as well restore the frame too with plan A.

Remember, you asked for opinions, here's mine! Prime and rattle bomb the backside "unseen" parts with black bed liner. Then body work and paint the "seen" parts body color. Another option, semi gloss black the outside of the frame and after the fenders are on...pinstripe the begeezus out of the exposed part of the frame between the running boards and body !
@LGKustoms
Жыл бұрын
I like almost all of your idea! Haha The only part I’m not in to is the bed liner, and that’s from first hand experience. I’ve found bed liner is really hard to keep looking fresh once it gets a layer or road grime on it. Almost like it stains, or holds the grime in its texture. Pin striping is a cool idea!
.....ha ha Lee...you know darn well you are going to make that chassis nice.....
Lee that is the same dilemma i have been having on my pickup project. I would say it just depends on where you want to take it. Either way would be fine it is just the amount of time to get it done. I have leaned towards the 2nd choice on my build, but understand the thought of making the frame really nice as well. Hopefully i can get you to swing by while down in the area Come by and hang out a bit. You all are welcome

Thanks Matt. I think I have a solid plan for the chassis paint. Stay tuned! 😉
seal it up and throw some black on it, spray or brush.. enjoy it and touch it up when you need to.
Great job on the welding, If it was my frame I would finish it with a nice paint job just in case you show it off, after all it's in a good place right now just spinning around on the stand.
Unless she is gonna be a trailor queen, plan B
Semi gloss black
Great meeting You, Shannon, and "Lumpy" at GNRS! Make the frame nice. Not perfect but nice. I hate seeing pits in frames.
@LGKustoms

Great meeting you too! I painted my roadster frame gloss black, and didn’t fill the pits. It’s always bothered me.
I'd go with plan B.
Little bit of both a&b what shows on the outside an use a gun not a brush. it’s your car Man U make u an Shannon happy 👍👌.
Matt black paint the chassis is my vote!
If it's gonna be a clean driver, I wouldn't go overboard, But I don't think you're gonna turn it into a hi-buck show rod, either; so have at it! Definitely interested to see the finished result!

I like the idea of high end show cars, until I’m reminded how expensive chrome is, and that I have no where to store nice cars.
Plan A. Make it nice.
Hell yeh ..rotticerie. Lots easier ..an either way it will look awesome ..hard driver or trailer Queen but yeh black fine for a daily user
I think plan A. I would propaly go plan C and get the frame powdercoated. I have powdercoated a lot of stuff, suspension parts, rear axles, motorcycle parts etc. I made a headache rack for my pick up truck(law requires it in here on heavier trucks) and got it powdercoated. They asked do i want a zinc coating under the powdercoat? Well, does the bear crap in the woods? ofcourse i do. Its been something like 8 yrs now and it still looks good, not a single spot of rust on that rack. Its only faded slightly because of the ultraviolet radiation from the sun.

@@LGKustoms Thats true, i forget those damn pittings
Thanks for mentioning Canadian Hot Rods magazine , I’ve been meaning to subscribe. So I paused your video and did so . As far as painting the frame , I’d go with semi gloss black Tremclad and a brush . Come on Lee , if you can paint your roadster with a brush … 😂 once again, I love your content Lee 👍🏻
@LGKustoms
Жыл бұрын
Terry will be stoked about the subscription! My roadster is brush body painted with Nason single stage. The chassis is sprayed with Endura two part industrial paint. It still looks brand new after 12 years. My truck chassis I painted with Tremclad primer and paint, unfortunately four years later the Tremclad is mostly all gone. Did not hold up at all.
I like plan A but plan B makes more sense. Then again plan A would look way cooler plus you know a guy that can fix it when it gets crusty.
@LGKustoms
Жыл бұрын
Haha I know a guy who could fix it too, but probably won’t! 😆
Flat black
The frame finish depends on your budget, time, and your what finished car is going to look like. Top end? Better go with your plan A.
Lee make this one nice, I don't know about you but I'm kind of over the patina look , don't get me wrong I liked that look when it was fresh but now it's getting a little boring, cause it seems like everyone is doing it . what has happened to the real craftsmen who took the time to really make a hot rod look fantastic, by that I mean a paint job you could be proud of. I know paint is expensive but you don't have to by the latest House of Color wizz bang candy color. just a nice red or the old stand by black ,well done can make your hot rod really stand out. so you asked your viewers what we think . well you can call me old school,but this is what I think, make it the "best" you can do, and you'll always be happy with the finished product.

I think what happened was paint and body supplies became astronomically expensive. The last car I painted was ten years ago, and the paint, primer, sandpaper, filler etc was $3500. That was low end “car lot special” quality paint too.
Plan B
I agree that putting fenders on this makes all that work not very worth it. Clean it up and paint it black so you can easily touch it up and save your energy for stuff that's going to show.
Plan A
Looking great, Lee. Not that I'd turn my nose up at a 32, but I've been a little bored of all black 40's style roadsters being built(not saying it's a bad look) this thing is refreshing. Love the vision dude. And really enjoying the show. You make it look easy. 1 question, is it gonna be painted the blue on the grill shell?
@LGKustoms

Blue is the plan, with a white grill insert, firewall, and white upholstery on the running boards and roof insert!

@@LGKustoms all I can say is Heck yes!
I'd seal and semi gloss black the frame and then spend more time and attention to the body since it's gonna be a daily driver and it's going to show more than the frame. Incidentally, what are you planning to do about the front end and rear differential?
@LGKustoms
Жыл бұрын
Front and rear for paint? They’ll just go black. Although every now and then I think about white to go with that late 50’s early 60’s style
Brush paint the frame and enjoy the car.
Plan a is nice but plan B I’d my choice when you get fenders on you won’t see most of it. Either way it will be right 🇨🇦🛠️🇨🇦🛠️

You’ve done too much work Lee not to go the whole way, plan A is the way!!!
You have a blank canvass in front of you? After you put things back together you can't change your mind, without a great deal of extra work. Take the time, make it right!

I think either way would still be “right”. There are just different opinions on what “right” is for different calibers of builds.
Plan C, Por 15 it, although I guess parts of it will be visible to the sun. So plan B.

Unfortunately I don’t have the budget to build my own cars to the best of my capabilities. Or a proper place to store then. My cars park outside in the weather. I have a plan that is a good compromise though!
send it in to get galvanised...itll fill a bunch of the pitting and not be crazy expensive and can take a light scuff and paint

call railing and fence / gate fab shops to find a big galv place...drive it out there yourslf etc be willing to wait a couple of weeks and itll be under $1k probably
Plan B if its life is as a driver, and as mentioned, you are running fenders. So, frame will not be noticeable. Take care, Rick

On 32’s the frame rail is fully visible between the running boards and the body
Love your videos, but I have to turn down the volume when your “music”comes on. Other than that really like what you are doing. Your 47/48 sedan reminds me of my youth. Had a green one for a daily way back when.
You only go around once, paint it blue. Every body does black.
Unless your going to the GNRS go with plan B but then again your almost there by having it on the rotisserie..plan A..but the again your just going to see the front and side rails ..I'm confused now did you ever make the call on full fendered?? WTF tuff call...

I see no need to detail the chassis, if it was a show car and you were going to put a mirror under it then OK. As the Stones said "Paint it black".
