Thank you!! Very helpful information. I am 7 weeks out of Tkr. My ankle gets a bit swollen every now and then if I do too much. Foot pumps are my favorite. Easy to do anywhere. I’ve been watching all your videos. Thank you for all your advice. 😊

I experienced swelling in my knee for the first 6 months..I attribute my swelling from my intense Inpatient/Outpatient training..I would categorize it as part of the healing prosses..I call the bruising normal which did not stop until about 8 months post op.

Maneuvers that are simple as this but sometimes we forget that they are still beneficial. Glad you posted it - I'll include it more often in my daily routine.

Hi, recently discovered your channel and I love it. I am 60 y/o an ex college runner and I am 8 weeks post TKR. It’s my understanding my knee was significantly more eroded and worn down especially in the patella and femur areas than the surgeon anticipated. My PT team are “scrapping” scar tissue around my knee now at every session and it is very painful. I’ve been told I have to work on desensitizing the patella and scar area by massaging when at home. Today my knee is so painful I can barely walk. I feel like my pain has increased with the scrapping technique and squatting exercises via the home gym machine (not exactly the same model, but close.) I have to squat lying on the panel using my own weight as resistance, it hurts at about a level 6 and my non-operated knee hurts at about a level 9 by this exercise. Could either of these practices be doing more harm than good? I feel like they minimize my discomfort.

Oh yikes! I would ask the PT to scale back those exercises. PTs should never let you get to a 9/10 pain!!

@@dr.samanthasmith thank you for responding. They measured me today and I regressed, my knee was just too sore. I just feel like they’re treating me like a one size fits all and only having me go 2 times a week. I need to do more work at home despite not receiving any guidance on exercises. So, what you do is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Dr Smith. After 2nd full knee replaced six weeks ago, I have chronic peroneal longus pain - I had right knee replaced five months ago - never had peroneal problem on first knee. I do PT but am really tired of the left knee pain. Help? Sleepless in Guadalajara

Please don't be petrified! I just had my second knee done, and after 4 wks. am back at the gym (with modifications). If you are relatively fit going into the surgery, you'l do fine. I won't sugar-coat it: TKR is a difficult surgery to recover from, but if you do your exercises, ice, elevate, take your meds, eat a healthy protein-rich diet, massage the leg, and do not ever let the pain get more than 3/10, you will recover quickly! I''m 70 and four weeks out am doing great. Think of it as an investment in your future!

I am a Diabetic with 11 weeks TKR and still have swelling on my knee and ankle. Very frustrated with stiffness every morning, before exercises, and after exercises. My knee goes into a stiff mode all the time. 😔
