These are three things i dont like about my 2023 Ford F350 superduty 7.3 gas. I love most things about this truck so this is pretty focused into the real things that i think about day to day when using my truck

    Thank you for pointing out these three things on your truck. I have been looking at the 2024 f350 with the 7.3 gas to carry a truck camper. I ordered a new 1994 f150XLT short bed 4wd 5.8 liter with 350 gearing and the heavy front suspension. I also selected limited slip front and rear with manual locking hubs. I use it for a daily driver hunting, and fishing. It has never been stuck in the mud or let me down. I can see the traction control getting you stuck and I can see the spring design causing the truck to squat when I put a heavy truck camper on it even when it is rated for the load. Your information has encouraged me to dig deeper selecting a new truck and add on options. Thank you for the information.

    Defiantly take advantage of the factory e locker. Timbrens are a great option for zero moving parts. Air bags are if you are comfortable dealing with them, air lines and the air system. Its defiantly a fine truck. I have to be nitpicky or there is no point in sharing any information. These are fantastic trucks and it would qualify as anyones dream truck, including mine. I havent weighed the dump trailer or the equipment trailer to see just how much weight they are putting on the truck. Dump trailer especially is designed with the axles way back. Even empty its putting a good bit of weight which is great for stability. Unless you are looking at a simply massive slide in camper, like one of those 10-12 foot ones that stick off the back of an 8 foot bed, i really dont think you will be anything but impressed with the truck. When you are towing equipment and like the dump trailer loaded, you are way in excess of what even a huge camped would be. The dump trailer empty is 4200 lbs. has almost 10k of payload which we are right up there every time with wood or rocks. There isnt a 14k bumper pull camper on the market that i even know of. That would he a 38 ish foot fifth wheel. Likely with triple axles. For the average person towing powerboats, camper, race car trailer, those sub 12k loads the truck is going to tow it great without squatting substantially.

    In regards to the traction control. In 4 low it is “off” and so is stabilitrac. You are stuck in 4 low to have that option. Which is not ideal for deep snow, mud or sand. You want wheel speed in those conditions. Even then, you are going to have a limit on the allowed wheel spin even with these systems off. Though i would say you are being pretty abusive on a brand new truck if you find that out first had. I do occasionally find out the hard way. I sunk that dump trailer behind my old truck in about 3 feet of snow. It took some very creative driving, maxx ramps and the dump trailers ramps to get out and even then the entire time traction control was limiting wheel speed which i desperately needed. Once you get into that situation, it sticks in your mind as a reminder that system is not designed to use the truck at the absolute limit. Previously i had a powerwagon. 2017. We were mudding in a field one day. It was extremely muddy. Farmer was laughing at us and said his tracked tractors would get stuck so dont expect him to be able to pull us out. Anyway, my buddy had an 02 chevy 2500hd with a 6.0 that i tuned. He was able to spin the tires at 80 plus without issue to clean the tires and was travailing about 20 mph faster than the powerwagon was physically allowed to by the ecu. That also sticks in my mind. The 02 was a far better truck that day off road than my 410 hp 2017 powerwagon

    Have a 23 xlt, only reason i got xlt is because at the time of order i could not get an xl with the 7.3 gas unless i went with stx package which i did not want. So glad i did get xlt just because of the door keypad, it is very nice to have for sure.

    11:36 you can unplug traction control under the hood of all fords. There’s a clip to the harness behind the left headlight that fully disables it, there’s lots of videos of how to do this.

    Can you replace the factory rubbers with thicker ones? Therefore it will engage the springs sooner?

    I have the same overload spring issue with my 2020 F350 SRW with 4300# payload. Squatted at least an inch lower back to front with just 1500# tongue wt trailer, even with WD bars. Had to install Firestone airbags to get it leveled out.

    Just strictly from a suspension design perspective it appears like a mistake because if your second stage of the suspension (overload leaf) doesnt engage at a useable compression height, whats its point? Im thinking about making some removable drop brackets to test my theory. How do you like your airbag system any issues. .

    I think it just goes to show you that most people just use them as big cars. In order to do that, they set it up this way suspension wise. I think these newer trucks, with all the power they have, no traction control, would end up killing idiots. Like you said. Our colorado ZR2, has a complete turn off of stabilitrac etc And its amazing how much more power you have, goes to show how much filtering of driver input there is.

    Far as I know, only the ZR2 has this function of complete shut off. So maybe the Tremor has this same function?

    I don’t have my new truck yet , but I do shut off traction control on my 2020 F350 when need to and is a very useful feature.

    The thing is, it isnt all the way off. Still has torque controls and it will limits wheel spin. Usually to 25-30 mph

    Okay, I have a question, so on your new truck if one wants to change to slippery road or off road you use dial on lower right instead of controls on steering wheel to change mode and it automatically puts it in 4wd?

    @@-BOSSp850 my assumption is there isnt really anything else they could do with those menus besides put it in 4wd. My expedition has a 4auto which is like awd function with a center differential so with slippery road and sport mode it goes into 4 auto. With off road it goes into 4wd which is locking the center differential. Considering a superduty doesnt have a center differential in the tcase those options dont exist. But they should have programmed varied levels of traction control and torque control interference with the modes because frankly they are kinda pointless

    Would be my pleasure. This thing rocked on my 2019. I dont seam to get many functions with it on my 2023. Im going to call banks and find out if i can update it or something.     You may want to take a look at the owner’s manual under the Drive Mode section. The Off-Road 4x4 Drive Mode setting turns off traction and stability control, keep the rear locker engaged at all speeds unless you turn it off, remaps the throttle, and remaps the transmission shift points to hold a lower gear longer. If you just want regular 4x4 there is a button next to the Drive Mode Dial for that.

    Well that would be great. The problem is traction control and stability control off doesnt actually turn it off. If you try to cook the tires or drift you will learn quick or if you are going though mud. It still limits power. Though i did not know about the locker being allowed at all speeds thats great

    Just to clarify what i mean is off road mode only allows 4low. If im not mistaken it wont allow you to shift out of 4 low. So it doesnt help keep the locker engaged at all speeds in 2high and 4 high.

    The 2024 Super Duty manual states Off-Road 4x4 mode defaults to 4x4 high with the locker engaged. I’m still waiting for my truck to arrive so I can’t test this out in person yet.

    @@rickcollins1796 im going to confirm tomorrow but if my memory serves me when in off road it forces 4 low shift and wont let you leave 4 low when in that function. Historically traction control and stabilitrac was “turned off” in 4 low anyway but with a great deal of experience i can say it never is off and always limits wheel spin when you need that wheel spin to get unstuck

    3:45 call me crazy but is your rear axle off center to the wheel well? It looks like the wheel is entirely too far back.

    I see exactly what you mean but its the mud flap making it look like that. Its centered. Its just the angled view im standing at. I can assure you it isnt that far off center in reality. But it sure looks like it, good eye

    So i do use my truck in more extreme conditions. I did end up having the front axle lockout and axle shafts fail. They were hardly abused. Besides traction control shaking the truck to death when recovering my buddy who was struck. I contend its the single most useless electronic feature there is. It has nothing but downsides. It causes you to get struck and the shock load of the power coming on and off is worse than consistent transfer of torque. But thank you for watching. There are lots of great reasons to have a new vehicle. Traction control is one that really detracts from the ownership experience

    Shift on the fly is good to have if you know how to use it by something else if you don’t like Ford truck

    I had timbrens in my last truck they were great. Im going to hold out and see when the f450 shows up. Never know with this craziness at these plants. If it does, ill probably just keep this truck as is, its intended to just be my daily driver and ill use the 450 for heavy work. Its nice that the 350 gas does so well though

    I put the sumo springs on my 19 250 for the same reason. Fill the bed with gravel it would be way past level

    I'm glad this video came to my feed. My 23' f350 with 11900 gvwr has the snowplow\camper package. It sits level unloaded but with weight applied(especially a heavy bumper pull), it really squats. I was guessing the 5900 lb front springs had something to do with it but after seeing this I'm inclined to think that the overload springs being so far away from the stops plays a bigger part. I think I'll have to get Timberns or Sumos. It makes sense they would help with squat being they sit 1 inch from the stops. It is mildly embarrassing to have a 1 ton truck that squats this bad with a small horse trailer on it. Not to mention the high headlights pissing everyone off. Bonus question. Would the unloaded 5900 lb front springs help with keeping the front "grounded" while under heavy loads? I'll never add a plow or even a farm bumper.

    I had timbrens in my prior truck and really liked them. For such an impossible to fail solution it worked very well. Good ride when empty, good ride when loaded. The one thing was a hard buck if you were towing heavy and hit a big bump and really compressed them all the way. Seamed to go mostly away with new shocks. But yes i firmly believe they must have increased ride height and forgot about the overload perches. I was thinking about building a dropped set of mounts to fix the problem.     Generally the overload spring should be contacted with about 2 inches of squat. Thats more than enough up travel when daily driving not to shock the passengers but its right about when you need to increase the spring rate when loaded. On my specific truck its sacked out before it hits. Like 4-6 inches of bed rail squat before its hard on the overload. Thats night right. Its more or less pointless at that point

    I have looked into that it grounds out the abs fuse i think. Usually throws on a light and a code i think

    Meanwhile, my 1992 F-350 with the C-6 / 460 gas V-8, (ex military unit) is turning over 200 K miles, no issues. Not much fair weather use, mostly all snow plowing.

    Thats good 460 is a great engine and i think you are better off with that c6 than the aod in newer trucks. My buddy had your trucks kin, a 91 3500hd single wheel chevy with a 454 tbi and a th400 and 4.10 gears. That was a great truck and with 35’s it acted like it had an overdrive trans. Pretty easy to drive plus it was a beast with a snow plow.

    Sorry, but disagree with the manual shift, I'm very grateful for when I'm going thru town with or without trailer, I can hit the minus button & take down to 6 or 7 & then the truck won't go over that gear, that way the tranny not shifting so much & lugging motor, or if going down a long road with or without trailer at 60 mph, I can take down to 8 or 9 then it won't go over those gears especially hauling a load on hilly road, not so much wear & tear on tranny shifting so much. I guess I don't actually use the manual button ever, but glad I can control which gear I want to stop at, don't always need 10 gears unless only doing highway driving.

    dang this video made me feel way better about my 03 F250 super duty. 6.0 diesel gets 16-18 MPG depending on how often i wanna hear my exhaust sound like a trombone, no Traction control and she can tow more weight than i ever could need without my headlights heading towards the sky. 2003 F250 > 2023 F350 #winning

    Helps when you have alot less rear suspension travel. My excursion doesnt have far to squat either. You wont be getting 16-18 with 17k out back. Maybe 13. When you get this heavy you just start throwing fuel at it.

    @@omgbbqcia911 even a diesel like a 6.7 is going to chuck fuel at it at that weight. 10-12k is about the limit for pretending you might get “good” fuel economy. After that good luck. 6.0’s are defiantly cool engines. They did the bottom end right, its super strong. I wish they had just got the number of head bolts right. The oil cooler obviously causes alot of issues too. Very interesting engine considering its a heui engine that isnt gutless

    Very good question. This was bought as a daily driver that i can work if i need to. I have a f450 on order with the HO. I needed something as i waited and i wanted warranty back. I use this truck for everything from picking up pizza to moving equipment and everything in between including camping (in a tent) and hunting trips. What i wanted to find out was how the 7.3 performed towing relatively big stuff. Its great having a daily and a work truck all in one and lots of people are looking for gas trucks for that. I will say the 6.7 is a betted more powerful engine than a single wheel truck is capable. The 7.3 more or less uses this one ton single wheel chassis to its potential. There are lots of opinions in this industry. There are those who say why own a pickup when you could buy a semi. For most that isn’t practical. There are people who say a pickup is pointless without it being a long bed. Again might not work for some people because of fitting in a parking place with a 4 door cab. Then you have those who say regular cab or bust. For those of us with kids and dogs that doesnt work. Im very much a diesel lover but i love the cheeper cost of this set up as my daily. It will allow me to actually take care of my 450. Store it in doors, not park it near disrespectful people and in all regards protect it. If i was going to have one truck id have this exact truck but with a 6.7 HO

    So I have the twenty two F350 7.3 And the reason for that is I don't tow really. I use it for 90% just getting and from work and daily driving. I do have a huge boat that I don't have to tow anymore unless I have to. It goes back to the o saying I do it rather have it and not need it than needed and not have it

    You can buy the kit from Ford and install it. Comes with all parts including the trim panel.

    Actually it was pretty reasonable. This is an stx with a 7.3 gas. So about 62k was msrp, i had A plan, so out the door it was like 61500 tax title out the door. I had 51500 of trade in value from my 2019. I think its a damn fine truck for 61500 ish out the door. I would feel a bit uncomfortable for a lariat or more with their msrp’s in the upper 70’s or even 80’s for a gasser. I think 80 plus for a diesel is equally ridiculous. I think less is more especially in a work truck. My previous truck was a 2019 lariat ultimate and it was way too nice for how a truck is used. I think the stx has what you need and nothing more

    @@Danny-tk3rs in broad strokes, payload, gcvwr and rated towing capacity. Depends on options and body and bed but rear axle and springs are what set the gvwr and gcvwr. Unless you are towing either a very large conventional or large gooseneck or 5th wheel 250 will serve you about as well as a single wheel 350. A duel wheel 350 isnt needed unless we are talking a very large payload or very large 5th wheel or gooseneck or pintle hitch tag trailer. 450 starts making sense for extra capability even though it isnt up rated for its added capability over a duel rear wheel 350 and its turning radius makes it very worth it. I know that is more than you asked for but i figured id give a complete answer.

    @@greatlakespowerstrokefx4 Thanks… just now realizing that my old 02 F150 is just not the best to Tow a 7000lb travel trailer… I have begun the journey searching for my next truck… Looking at an F250… if I go new it will be 7.3… if used maybe 6.2…. Are all 250’s called super duty? Are they considered 3/4 ton and the 350s are the one ton? Just trying to understand…

    The worst things about this truck is they are always at msrp or close to it $80+k lol… but the biggest problem. Is simply that it’s a ford! It will have recall after recall after recall and it never stops. I switched brands and I sleep better and have no stress in life anymore. You should try it.

    Iv had quite good luck with ford. But im with you on msrp out of control. This truck was 62 and i think for 62 its an awesome rig. Being in the 80’s is a bit extreme

    I have a 2022 F350 XLT 4x4 FX4 long bed crew cab with 7.3. I hate traction control. I love my lockers. I use 4wd quite a bit since I have Michelin MS2’s and they are not great at getting big loads moving on slippery terrain.
